Kyle, my wife was a science and mathematics teacher and earlier this year she passed away from Cancer at only 42 years old. I just wanted you to know just how much what you said there at the end meant to me. I know it wasn't her you were talking about, but I know she touched many young lives and... well, it just hit right in the feels.
    Thank you.

Here's a possibility; consider a floor and a wall with a slight gap between them. From a two dimensional perspective if you were on the floor the wall would simply not exist for you. The same for a two dimensional creature on the wall. Both would exist under essentially the exact same conditions, and each plane could interact with one another in multiple ways in the third dimension.
So it is easy to see how a third dimensional creature like we are could easily be in the presence of other third dimensional creatures that are, as you put it, at right angles to us and simply not be able to see or interact with them.
The question of us interacting with such a creature is more difficult of course, though it is possible that we would be able to figure out a way to impart a kind of "spin" to an object that would rotate it in this previously unknown fourth spacial dimension, in which case it might well be possible to align yourself with any number of alternate planes.

This is a well crafted theory and I personally feel like you’re right. But could you think about the possibilities. Infinite alternate planes could mean infinite recourses for all humans. When you think about it that type of research could be what propels humans into a new age.

On the show, the Upside-Down is compared with the Shadow Realm from the D&D game the kids are playing. It should be noted that at various times during the game's history, the Shadow Realm has been described as our world, as it would appear if time had moved on from it. In other words, it can be seen as a reflection of the Prime Material Plane if each state of the world were left behind to entropy, and then that state could be entered. Those familiar with Stephen King's The Langoliers might find this idea familiar. In that story, a jet airliner passes through a dimensional rift, into the world of a few minutes ago. Everybody else has moved on, leaving the shell of the world behind to entropy (and in that case, eventually be devoured by the Langoliers - a sort of cosmic clean up squad of sharp-toothed monsters). The principle of endless possible outcomes creating endless tangent universes (a favorite Star Trek trope) would seem to be in play here, but working in a more retro way. The reason I like these ideas better than the theory Kyle proposes here (as unscientific as they may be), is that they better explain how energy gets into such a sunless world. There are things here, for the monsters to devour, and plant life (or similar), as well. It makes more sense that a world so bereft of a natural source of energy such as the sun is, would be able to subsist on the "leavings" of the world that spawned it. In other words, things of substance (plant life, humans that fall in) left behind in the world of a few minutes ago, after the prime world move on, feed the Shadow Realm/Upside-Down/whatever. Now, this kind of world and means of energy transfer does present its own set of problems, but to me it is more satisfying. Then again, I am not a scientist, but a writer of stories.

My question about the upside down: Can we affect it? All trees and structures (natural and manmade) are in the upside down. So if we know where a creature is in the upside down, could we build a steel cage around it in the right side up and that cage would appear in the upside down trapping it (granted the creature couldn't 'step sideways' into the right side up). In the upside down you can affect electromagnetism (it's why compass and lights do strange things) but can you build something in the upside down and it would appear in the right side up? Did Will's clubhouse get destroyed in both worlds? How big does something need to be to have presence in both places? For example the clubhouse was there, but the bear trap was not.
    Upside down... so many questions!!!!!!!

First off, sorry to hear about your late teacher, Joseph. I'd like to think he might have heard of your youtube show and realized his effect on you. I'm sure he influenced a lot of students for the better.
Anyway, here's another superhero question. A lot of times Wonder Woman is depicted as being able to take super powered smashes from being like monsters, Kryptonians, Greek Gods, etc. Yet she can be shot with a bullet (usually, depending on the writer.) Sometimes even arrows! Is there anyway that actually makes sense? I realize that PSI and distribution of force are things, but is there any material, organic or otherwise, that can be so strong to blunt force trauma yet so susceptible to piercing damage?

    • @ostiariusalpha
      @ostiariusalpha 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Oobleck (cornstarch) might be a good example; it can withstand blunt force easily, but an arrow or little .22 LR bullet can puncture it without much trouble. Though the fact that some of the writers were sexist douche-canoes and some weren't is the real reason behind WW's inconsistent durability.

Or, maybe, it COULD be an added dimension. That actually makes more sense, as it could explain why the trees and buildings are all there in the Upside Down.
For a simple example, imagine you're a two-dimensional creature in a two-dimensional world. You can see depth and height (forward-backward and up-down), but not width (side to side). In fact, let's forget imagining, let's DO it. Get a sheet of paper and cut two tall slits in it in front of each eye, then hold it about an inch or so in front of your face. If you did this properly, you should be able to see a thin slice of the world, but that's it.
Now, examine the world you're in. Look up. Look down. Look so far up that you turn around and are looking backwards. But NEVER look sideways. Sideways doesn't exist to you. Now's where the 'added dimension' piece comes in. Without turning, without looking, just *step* sideways. What happened? Did your whole world change? Probably not. If you were looking at a wall, you're probably still looking at a wall. But maybe you're looking at a window. Suddenly what was an opaque surface is now clear glass. Now imagine if you were in a forest. That tree may still be there, but now you're looking at a different part of it. or maybe now there's bushes there.
Now back to reality. What would a 4th spacial dimension be like? Well, everything would have a certain 'width' in it, people included. If you stepped 'sideways' in this extra dimension, some things would still be there, but you'd be looking at a different part of them. They may look radically different, subtly different, or completely the same, all depending on what it was shaped like in this extra dimension. People and animals may all be gone, if we aren't wide enough, and there may be something else in our place. Some other kind of life that finds this particular location in the 4th spacial dimension home. The atmosphere could be different, too, if air isn't very 'wide'.
Fundamentally, though, the 'extra dimension' means that all the basic laws of nature are still the same. You haven't gone 'elsewhere', you've just stepped 'sideways'. Certain forces from our 'location' may propagate 'sideways' more, and vice versa, while others don't have any impact. It's also possible that our natural effects on the world around us (I'm thinking a biomagnetic field here) could be stronger to the 'side' of us, but we never notice because we can't go there.
This actually explains everything about the Upside Down very well. Wood, stone, concrete, etc are all there still, because they're wider. Animals aren't, though, and the air there is different from the air here. Even the 'goo portals' make sense in this theory. Here, they aren't some 'hole in reality' so much as they are a diagonal path. As you go forward, you're also being forced 'sideways' without realizing it.

My boyfriend is also a middle school science teacher like Mr. Clark, so I see first hand how hard of a job it is. And sometimes it feels so thankless, especially with this new generation of kids who grew up with distractions like the internet. While there have always been kids who didn't respect their teachers, I feel like I see more of it now because the internet makes kids feel smarter than they really are. It's really sad and now with Betsy in charge of our education system, teachers need our support now more than ever.

There are way more states than just 6, I suggest looking up the wikipedia page on it.
      1. There are the 4 fundamental states:
      - Solid
      - Liquid
      - Gas
      - Plasma
      2. Phase transitions
      3. Non-Classical states:
      - Glass
      - Crystals ((Partially) Disordered)
      - Magnetically ordered
      - Microphase-seperated
      - Quantum spin liquid
      4. Low-temperature states
      - Superfluid
      - Bose-Einstein condensate
      - Fermionic condensate
      - Rydberg molecule
      - Quantum hall state
      - Strange matter
      - Photonic matter
      - Dropleton
      5. High-energy states
      - Degenerate matter (Great name xD)
      - Quark-gluon plasma
      - Color-glass condensate
      6. The highly discussed high energy state of a gravitational singularity
      7. Some more propesed states:
      - Supersolid
      - String-net liquid
      - Superglass
      - Dark matter
      - Equilibrium gel
      8. Hidden states (not reachable under ergodic conditions)
That´s a lot more than six, so yeah, go by whatever definition suits you best xD

And on the other end of the spectrum, I had a math teacher that drove me off of math - I lost interest in the various ways numbers affect our lives. I remember loving to hear the complete description of what I was actually doing when I added or removed specific symbols, but the teacher just outright said it in the most boring way possible. The symbol used when solving for the square root of a number is a good example of my previous love - Knowing what I was actually doing was for some reason fascinating to me, but he just went on about "it's not important since you'll be using a calculator almost all the time for that specific thing" and similar things. And it just compiled from there, until all that mattered was that we as students got the answers right, uncaring of how we did it as long we only used calculators for specific things. I don't know if any of what I believed or what he said was right or wrong, but it did make me lose interest in math entirely - now I barely bother to do simple additions or multiplication, just use a calculator that's easily available on my phone. Of course I could do it no matter my interest, but for some reason that teacher just punched and beat my interest into submission.
Idk if that made a whole lot of sense, but I tried my best.

I've even heard people say that the only way to get there is through yourself. tapping into the deepest and darkest sides of ourselves and vice versa. just like the character 11 did. how does it read, man is the gateway to the kingdom.

This is the most useless episode of BS I've seen so far. you can't explain the upside down, It's a flawed concept that has absolutely zero basis in science.
For starters, how is it that certain objects present in our world are also present in the other universe but others are not.
how can the similar objects even exist in the other universe if there are no humans there to make them?

    • @KaijuRamen54
      @KaijuRamen54 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

Watch the video...the theory is that the two universes can be so close on the fabric of reality that they start to cross over. The man made structures in the upside down aren't IN the upside down...they are pieces of our world crossing over. It's like holding two mirrors in front of each other...they reflect one off the other, how much depends on how close they are to each other.
It's all theory and science fiction, but the theory fits what happens in the show.

For those wondering. This idea was also put into a gaming situation before as well. This idea exists in the game Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. between Aether and Daether. A light and dark world linked together in flux which was created due to a high energy impact with foreign material. It would make sense that said impact effected the quantum level of the planet on impact creating an entangled world. All actions that effect things entangled on one world. effect the other world equally. The portals are simply wormholes between each planet.

when you said there could be another Universe parallel to ours it reminded me of that phrase As Above So Below describing heaven or some such thing. blew my mind bro

Here is the one thing that stuck with me while watching Stranger Things. The physical structures and vehicles existed in the upside down. So, when a car moves in the real world, would it move in the upside down? Also, when the fort got destroyed, did it get destroyed in the real world? If there is such a connection, the upside would have been a lot more active. Now if the upside is only a snapshot of the real world, at what point does it get its properties from the real world?

Tbh the upside down is probably a alternate world to ours that was taken over by the mind flayer.

So for a while now my dreams have been strange, but I’m always very lucid in them usually to the point I can’t tell the difference between dreaming and waking life. But they always are in setting of my life like the town I live in the school, I went to, ect.. but it’s always dark foggy and eerie and the only way I could describe how it looks would be the upside down of where I live.
CERN also looks very similar to the machine “the keys” in stranger things firing high powered energy rays to open a doorway between worlds.
Then you look at what cern does and then look at the department of energy website. They say they’re looking for the upside down

Amazing theory! The main issue I have with it is that in quantum entanglement both particles react to the other particles event. So if I change the spin in one, in theory, the spin change in the other and viceversa. In stranger things, the "Upside down" (UD) had human constructions (buildings, school, arcade, labs) but there are no humans there who had built them, who use them or who had destroyed them. On the contrary, there is no apparent sign of the UD having any manifestation in the human world without it being related to human interference. In a summary, what has happened in the human world has manifested in the UD, but not any of the UD elements has manifested in the human world. This means there is no real quantum entanglement.
To be honest, I think UD is the created reality based on our world in the moment Jane (AKA Eleven) touched the original demigorgon entity while in experimentation in the tank.

That sentimental part at the end of the video dedicated to Kyle's eighth grade science teacher hit me hard.

What I'm curious about is if the upside down was created at some time after our reality, or if it has existed the same amount of time. If hawkin's lab created it, when buildings are built here, do they appear in the upside down? Is it just a snapshot from one point in time, or does it change whenever we make changes in our own world?
