Hey Annie! Thanks for sharing! Something I started doing recently was a “sabbath week” in the evenings. My evenings can be busy with small group, teaching high school girls bible study, getting together with students and hanging out with friends. They are all great things but about every 6-8 weeks I’ll take a whole week and excuse myself from all activities. I will go for a walk in the evenings and then intentionally spend more time with the Lord on those evenings. It has been an amazing respite for me! I appreciate you’re encouragement!

Self-care is so much more than self-indulgence!! Actually, it's not self-indulgence at all. I love this!

I say this because as a college student it seems easy for "self-care" to become an excuse for eating badly or being lazy.

I found the other day that setting a timer for 5 minutes, tidying up the living room, and then lighting a yummy smelling candle and playing soft relaxing Christian artist music was sooooo relaxing and sweet for my soul. Then I can sit and read, stretch, whatever and it feels so nice. 😊

My self care has gone down since summer. Summers are hard for me because I am a teacher and don't have a routine. During the past school year I set a timer to leave school. Part of my problem is that there is always something to do. Setting a timer to leave school helped me leave without feeling guilty or saying only 10 more minutes which turned into 2 hours. Also during the school year, I enjoyed going working out then getting on the massage table at the gym. I have started dipping my nails at home and it is so simple and easy and relaxing because it is just me and my hubby is doing whatever he wants. My self care also includes spending time with God which is really difficult during school but has been a joy during COVID. Self care is something I struggle with. I like your ideas. Thank you for sharing!

I listen to your podcast almost everyday, and I LOVE how your heart for God and your intimacy with Him comes through everything you do or say. Your love for people is infectious! You make me laugh and introspect and at times, yes, tear up.(Hey, I am a 7!) You are so loved by so many, and don’t forget how incredibly special you are to the King!❤️

Yesssss! This is why I love following you- same. Simple things to put in place- not a giant expense of a spa day (although those are nice!) but simple ways. I’d agree with several of these and add coffee with a friend without the kids and a pedicure which I made time for today!

Love this! Part of my self care is trying to finish all work and homework (grad school) during the week so I have weekends to relax. I am also blessed to live near the ocean so I try to walk at the beach as much as I can. It’s so therapeutic!

Slow and quiet mornings with coffee are pretty consistent for me. Sometimes it’s reading/praying and sometimes it’s just sitting in the quiet for 30ish mins, or even just 10 mins!

I love this. I try to go for a walk and listen to a podcast at some point every day. Otherwise, disconnect and pleasure read. Some nights I’ll drive to a nearby open park and sit in my car to watch the sunset. Given that I work in the evenings (teacher on summer break working as a babysitter) and have Girl Scouts in the evening, I try to keep one day home and free every week. That’s usually my night to go for a walk and then take a bath. I’ve been learning about boundaries and trying to set some better ones this summer.

I struggle with an eating disorder, but I’ll drink 12,000 cups of coffee in the morning. I have a rule for myself, no second cup without some food first!

So. I am happily married with 4 kiddos so my self care is "interesting" My wife is a teacher so it has been rough for her the past little bit. So when I come home from work, I make sure and give her a kiss first thing when I come through the door (has always been a thing, not just cuz of the crazy)... I usually have a child hanging from my leg by the time I get to her, but momma gets her kiss first. Then I get the download on her day to make sure there is nothing that she needs from me right off the bat. Then it is dinner and after I "attempt" to help clean up. I know this doesn't sound much like self-care, but it is me spending really great time with my family after a long day at work, so for me it is. Then I play with my 3 boys. Sometimes it is out in the pool, sometimes it is in the home gym aka garage for martial arts practice, some days it is playing Ghostbusters on the Xbox. Then I help my wife get our motley trio ready for bed, stories read, tucked in, prayers said and lights out. Then it is my daughter's turn. (my boys are 4, 5 and 7 and my daughter is 14). I get the download on her day. Grumble about the boys she is interested in and who are interested in her, watch a show of her choosing (Right now it is Fuller House). Then help her get ready for the next day, this usually includes my teasing her, picking her up and pitching her on the bed, ... you know... all the fun goof off stuff that doesn't really help get anything done. LOL. Then it is prayers with her and lights out. Then my wife and I will either watch a show together (Top Chef or Hell's Kitchen ... or Ink Master) or play a board/card game. Then we snuggle together and read for a bit. Then a last check in to make sure I got all done for that night and I know what I need to do the next day, then off to bed. That is how I keep going each day. Thanks for giving us a peek at your self-care. That was fun.

i make the same smoothie every morning: flax milk, spinach, pepitas, dates, and cocoa powder. It makes me feel good to know I'm getting a serving of greens to start the day.

Kendra @thelazygenius defines self-care as whatever makes you feel more like yourself. Love that definition! Most recently, I’ve started doing 30-45 minutes per day of alone time. With 4 kids home all day every day now, it’s vital for my sanity. 😂

Would still love the list in the show notes or as a screenshot @ the end of the video. Sometimes, I can’t take notes while I listen/watch. Lol.
    For Self-Care:
    1. I dry skin brush everyday.
    2. I get a professional pedicure 2-3x during the summer.
    3. I occasionally get a body massage. (Would like to see this done monthly or even weekly, but I don’t have unlimited discretionary funds. 😉)
4.. (should’ve been #1) Quiet Time with God.
    5. At least 1 Pause/day via the App-thanks for the interview with John E.
    6. Daily vitamins.
    7. Drink lots of water! And, I enjoy at least one bottle of water with LiquidIV. (Thanks, AFD!)

Get more than 2 hours of sleep hahahaha Agree! I try to give myself a manicure each week and my husband has been great about taking the kids for a couple of hours each saturday so i can have some time to myself. It’s usually spent doing grad school work, but I can do it without interruptions and with a tall iced coffee so all is good!
