Found your channel a little while ago. After research and 2 guitar purchases, I started building a guitar from scratch. Thanks to your videos I had the ability to sort through my issues. The new guitar looks, feels, sounds and plays amazing. Thanks for all your help.
I have 2 SBs’s and the pickups alone are worth the price of admission. They’re the first cheap pickups I’ve not needed to change out to get the guitar inline with my other superstrats.
Thanks for all the great informative videos. I'm 70 yrs old picking since around 1972 . I have learned more about guitars in the past 3 yrs than my entire life. Wish I had them back then.
I've got the Jazzmaster one they sell in that vintage blue, and it's awesome. I've always wanted to own a jazzmaster with a floyd and they're the FIRST company I've ever seen do it with a true, classic jazzmaster body shape. I put in a trem stabilizer (something I do for higher end floyds too) and it helped a lot with tuning stability. I did also have to take my mom's emery board and file one fret that was too tall and fretting out the note behind it, but it was a valuable experience, being my first time doing any kind of fret work. After that, adjusting the action and neck relief, it was perfect. Also, I put fretlook pearloid block inlay markers and old school black witch hat Fender knobs to make it look more like a '66 Jazzmaster, and it's so classy looking now. I love it to death. I don't like the sound as much of the covered humbuckers that come with it I think, but it's its own thing and it's nice for certain sounds. Super awesome, unique and utilitarian guitar. It's my main instrument now.
To everyone who wishes it was a fixed bridge you can block the trem from moving in about 5 min one way is to go in your garage or junk drawer and look for those L brackets that are always getting in your way…grab one one lay it up agents your trem block and screw the other end into your guitar and BAM BOO BAM you have a hard tail….or shove a stack Pennie’s or washers held together with a little tap between the block the guitar and BADDA BING
Hey its Phil. One of the very few utubers I thrust doing honest reviews and not bought or upped to get good relations to companys to earn gear or money.
As always, I wish they would do a fixed bridge version of these guitars. Otherwise, they look to be everything realistically you could expect for the price point.
Phil, I agree with you on the non-recessed bridge. I had a Jackson Adrian Smith and it had a surface mounted Floyd bridge and the biggest issue it had was a high E that was too close to the edge and would always slip off, the neck was a bit narrow. Anyway, more top mounted Floyds for us '80s guys!
This guitar looks like its a ripper!! Looks amazing with that (now proven thanks Phillip) roasted maple neck! Hot bridge pick up and warm single coils. The Floyd bridge for what it is seems to stay in tune probably more after some good string stretching. Ive seen some great reviews on these SBS guitars and Philip knocked it out of the park for me very informative and honest! 🤘😛🤘 Keep it up Phil!
I actually like a little bit of edge on my fret ends. I have motor skill issues and as long as it doesn't tear up my hand, that extra texture helps me feel where i am a little better
similar to the HB fusion but the fusion has ss frets, i have 2 of them, once set up right they are hard to beat, they are almost on par with my japanese AZ
That is a very nice guitar! The neck treatment and body colour look awesome together. I would be happy to clean up those few minor neck flaws, and put on a German OFR I've got from the 80s. I've even got a late 80s PAF Pro 151 laying around if I need it…
When doing that sound test on the guitar your playing was a little Snake Sabo sounding and that was the tops in my book ! The guitar looks awesome for the price range ! Maybe if they made a knock off version of the Evertune bridge to put in these I think they would be better !
I really disagree about the heel carve, in this video you say it doesn't do anything but if you play up there with the tradition corner digging into your palm, and then play one with the "ultra" heel, I think it's way better, and objectively makes it easier to reach around the heel. If the heel area of the body is thinner with the ultra-style heel, it's even better.
Remember when those back of headstock allen key holders were standard on many guitars? Ah, the good old days...This thing looks like a steal for a quality super S axe... XD And so nice to see you using the TremoLok/TremBlock tool. I still use my 30 year old TremoLok OG.
The clean on neck & middle is sweet, man! I could hear that timbre all day. That tone along with great hollowbody jazz and classical guitars... those are the sounds that give me rest. At my age, Phillip, I need more restful sounds. My thrill-seeker days are behind me.
Great review as always, Phil I really like a lot of Guitar Fetish's products, and I want to love their guitars, but it seems like they always have one "feature" that's a deal breaker for me. Their "Slick" rand stuff is right up my alley, but they all have that weird fake relic look. They make a Tele clone with a Gibson-scale neck, but it comes with some of their weird, proprietary pickups that can't be easily replaced. With this, it's that Floyd Rose. I own a couple now, and I've owned several in the past, and we just don't get along. If they offered these with a fixed bridge or a vintage-style trem, I'd be all over one.
Y'know it's really awesome that you can get decent guitars at this sort of a price range. A lot of people I know have been scared to get started given what it takes fiscally to even get a playable guitar (at least in the past). Hopefully guitars like this can bring a new generation to the instrument.
I just saw Joe Lawlor (Dave Matthews' longtime audio tech) join DMB on stage in Camden and absolutely RIP on one of these in metallic purple. I thought for sure this thing was some boutique maker and he paid at least 2-3K. Imagine my surprise when I researched it and found it to be sub $400. This thing screamed for him and he cleaned up in between little bits of his extended solos - I was blown away by the player more so, but this guitar and the fact that he felt comfortable taking it out in front of 20,000 people was a ringing endorsement. I can't see a better value in an electric guitar than this.
I bought a Schecter Damien dirt cheap a couple of years ago because someone had the intonation all messed up lol. I have had several Floyd equipped guitars over the years and a must have is "The Key" and it makes these adjustments a breeze.
Gotta say I really appreciate the repeated process for the reviews - sure, you repeat stuff each time, but it’s good info any time and more importantly I can watch reviews from various points in time and still get similar info to compare/contrast
The good thing about the lesser quality Floyd Rose bridges is that the parts are compatible with the high quality stuff. As long as it works ok, you can replace components that aren’t up to par. My MIK Agile with a Floyd has the sloppy trem arm as well. $20 fix to throw on the Schaller made arm/collar.

I do it to all my Floyd Rose equipped guitars..and the one he installed is my favorite as well..better quality than the ones that have the 2 large screws to hold the allen wrenches in place.

@@scramblesthedeathdealer I hear you- I just bought my first and only Ibanez- the SP3 Kiko L. sig. model. The only complaint I have is the fret sprout- it was unreal bad- and the ends of the frets had burrs on them- otherwise it punches above its price point of 550$- by quite a bit I would say. The other Super Strats I found that are comparable to this are 1G and up- so for 550$, I'm happy with it. I love this wider, thinner neck profile.
@stoneysdead689 I love Ibanez, I have 7 RGs (counting my second "Partscaster" build I'm working on) and a 5 string SR405EQM bass, most of them were cheap/used and I love upgrading them. Congratulations to Bob Creech. He won this beautiful guitar and a case. Thank you to everyone who entered the contest
I was just listening to some early 70's Hot Tuna, with blues violinist Papa John Creech.
Congrats Bob. Now let's see a video of it in action.😉

your first and second guitars combined would be a double-neck (unless one of those was already a double-neck in which case...)
Your banjo work is really coming along. Sounds great.

Not the point…it has to have a rose
@palidiciovermingagurainia1760 Why?
Never needed a rose when crankin on my Gibbons 😎
It's supposed to be an 80's shredder style guitar. Hence the Floyd. If you want it fixed, tremel-nos aren't hard to install. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
