  • In this video I talk about the different types of hazards and how to respond to each.
Hazards are classified as Fixed hazard, Potential hazard, Developing hazard, and Imminent hazard.
    Fixed Hazards:
For Fixed hazards such as speed humps, pavements, trees, intersections the response is to check your mirrors, slow down and select the appropriate gear.
    Potential Hazards:
For the Potential hazards such as animals on the side of the road, parked vehicles, pedestrians the response is to check your mirrors, reduce speed by easing back on the accelerator but no braking. Keep your eye on the hazard until you are well clear.
    Developing hazard:
For a Developing hazard such as a pedestrian or animal walking slowly towards your lane the response should be to check mirrors, reduce speed by braking, hoot to alert the pedestrian or other road users and be prepared to come to a complete stop or take evasive action.
    Imminent Hazard:
An imminent hazard constitutes an emergency and requires immediate and decisive action. Check your mirrors and reduce speed to bring your vehicle to a stop or perform and emergency lane change which ever is appropriate.
