Laryngo-Pharyngeal Reflux LPR aka, Silent Acid Reflux Not a dr. Consult your physician. Just some helpful hints from a co-sufferer after weeks of research. Flareup Symptoms that may last 4 - 8 weeks and be in absence of regular heart burn symptoms associated with acid reflux. Basically, stomach acid and gases are escaping a poorly functioning upper stomach sphincter muscle irritating and damaging the esophagus, throat and nose. • Tightening of the neck and throat, feeling like you can’t breathe. Very scary (What is it? How far will it progress?) • Anxiety from difficulty breathing exacerbating symptoms like a racing heartbeat • Shortness of breath • Difficulty swallowing • Mucus build up and stuffy nose furthering a closing throat sensation • Globus, lump in throat, sticking food • Pain and tightening in neck and back muscles • Tingling in arms and or fingers. Try to avoid a full on panic attack here. • Burping • Inability to and fear of eating, weakness, lack of nutrition, rapid weight loss • Dizziness • Racing and irregular heartbeat. I knew it wasn’t a heart attack because it came on only after eating although the symptoms are similar to heart problems which increases anxiety, which increases all the symptoms. Go to a Dr. if you need to. • Dehydration • Vegus Nerve affected which runs throughout whole body affecting everything • Low Stomach Acid means difficulty digesting food thus not getting required nutrients and protein. Test for 1st thing in the AM by taking ¼ tsp baking soda in 4 oz. water. If it takes more than 3 minutes to burp it is most likely low Stomach Acid. • If you take antacids and PPIs to lower symptoms by lowering stomach acids further it may aggravate the problem and not address root issue. • Rule out Hiatal Hernia and H-pylori infection Natural Remedies. What to eat during a LPR flareup to repair esophagus and minimize symptoms. Keep a food diary to see what triggers your symptoms. Inflammation triggers symptoms. Know your triggers. After 3 weeks of intimidating symptoms that even water triggered, I had to stop all dairy including the beneficial Keifer that I had drank for years. The only thing I could consume was a cup of warm bone broth and sipping warm water. After 3 days of that, I found out of necessity, what worked best for me was making a thick vegetable soup with a bone broth base for protein (no onion, red bell pepper or garlic). The vegetables included sweet potato, red cabbage, zucchini squash, celery, yellow bell pepper, carrot, adding a little sea salt for electrolytes, a little beef bullion and pinto beans. Cook for hours until thick and easy to swallow for best motility lessening lump in throat. Today I was able to have a fried egg with the bean soup and tolerated it well. Delighted to eat at all again and get some nutrients to heal. Eat slowly. See if food triggers any symptoms with in a ½ hour. Hopefully, I will soon be able to try incorporating lean meats, tofu, hummus, roasted veggies, veggie omelets, big salads, quinoa and naan or soft bread. • Eat as many vegetables as possible. • Walnuts and almonds. • Bananas might be good but not acidic fruits like oranges etc. • Follow a recommended GERD diet incorporating foods as able to tolerate and discover what works and what does not. • Be sure to walk after meals, even a little bit helps digestion. What to avoid • Fried foods • Processed junk foods • Sugary foods • Alcohol • Mint • Fatty foods • Acidic foods • Difficult to digest foods • Spicey foods • Mint • Caffeine • Smoking anything… • Carbonated beverages • Glutin? • Ginger at first because of the spiciness and may cause arrythmia of the heart = anxiety = stress • Do not add fiber it will aggravate globus and deter motility of food. Gag. Possible Causes although largely unknown • Manage your STRESS, known to be a major cause that affects well, everything especially the digestive tract. Relax. • Hormones, age • Family history • Antacid overuse • Sleeping postures or tight clothes. Anything that puts pressure on the stomach and causes acidic gas to rise • Injury, throwing up • Poor lifestyle choices • Illness. Coughing hard • Pancreatic or stomach cancers, ulcers, diseases Helpful suggestions but do your own research. Recommend watching Dr. Berg and Dr Mandel (motivationaldoc) on TH-cam, social media. Very helpful. • Walk after each meal, even a little bit helps digestion • Wear loose clothing • Intermittent Fasting allows healing and as part of a KETO light lifestyle • ACV Apple Cider Vinegar 1 Tbls in 5 oz. water, ½ hour before meals helps digestion with low stomach acid. Not good for ulcers and with some meds. Research. • Digestive Enzymes before meals • Gaviscon Advance, only available from Europe or Amazon • Pre and Probiotics, strive for a healthy gut biome. Will increase happiness and health. • Vitamins, especially B, potassium, Zink L-Carnosine (repairs stomach and esophagus lining) • Eat small meals. Eat slowly • Chew 30X before swallowing • Gargle with warm salt water if experiencing too much mucus • Fruit flavored gum to stimulate digestion • Chamomile tea • Exercise to reduce stress when able • Melatonin helps • Meditate, breath, try to relax • Positive Affirmations. You can and will get better • PRAY
Wow, this is great. Just hearing a doctor straight up acknowledge this is a real thing brings comfort to me. Yeah, I know I also have an anxiety disorder, but there’s still more going on. Help me!! :)
whydudesta This was great, thanks, I have been researching "symptoms gastroesophageal reflux disease gerd" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Mackorny Cool Stomach Blueprint - ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cousin got great success with it.
I'm shaking watching this. I've been having on and off panic attacks because my throat feels closed a bit. I haven't eaten a meal in days. Just sipping on liquids. I haven't been diagnosed yet but I'm pretty certain this is what I have. Praying for relief. 🙏
I found out I have sibo (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) which caused mucous abnormalities in my gut. Im always clearing my throat. Also a bad taste in my mouth and bad breath. One for the record of what this man is saying, PPIs (acid blockers) actually make your stomach acid so low after a period of time and do not get to the root cause of the issue. Having constant low stomach acid attracts bad bacteria, candida overgrowth of the gut and parasites. Baking soda neutralizes stomach acid. No need for PPIs. 👍
I'm trying to understand why my acid reflux only happens after I am asleep and also why none of this discussion is about the effects of Candida Albicans? I think that is actually the "elephant in the room".
How about laryngeal sensory neuropathy? I was diagnosing with Lori, ppi med didn’t do anything . The last ent doctor I saw told me is not lpr , it is laryngeal sensory neuropathy. He gave me gabapentine, and it helped.
A lot of people only talking talking talking and not sayng how to prevent it or what foods to eat or not to eat o get help i have it and vomit a lot and have a lot of pain can you tell me to get help
Air-conditioning often triggers my coughing. Some shops spray disinfectant for virus and this triggers my cough and closes my throat. I struggle to breathe and have to leave the shop.
I'm going through this shit please HELP ! WE CANT BREATH we need to find the root cause of this and figure out and help everyone that's going through this
Yes absolutely. I feel a deep congestion quite often. Like not necessarily in my nose but further down. Sometimes in my nose too. It comes and goes. Sometimes my sinuses feel like they’re on fire.
@vivek rajput they’re better, but not totally gone. I’ve lost almost 50 pounds since September just from my diet change, which has helped distract me from it I guess. I don’t feel like there’s something stuck in my throat all the time like I use to, which was the worst part of it. Just keeping my portion sizes down and not having any fats or acids has helped the most. I also only drink alkaline water as my only beverage so that has helped. The doctor told me it could take up to 6 months or possibly longer so I may only be half way there but I don’t really know. Just living day by day. I was at the point of it bringing back my childhood asthma and giving me shortness of breath so I would say I had it pretty bad. So it will probably be at least the full 6 months for me feel free to add me if you ever need someone to talk to about it
Idk if anyone feels this way but it's very hard to talk for a long period of time I feel the pressure and the blocking more in my chest than anything and I have one half of the month that's not too bad but then a period that's terrible to breath out my nose and even think straight, two years now and still not a huge change after taking omeprazole, any suggestions? I'm going back to the ent doctor soon
@@itsjen94 still struggling I'm thinking about lynx procedure but what I have found is that ppis like omeprazole with pepcid and some probiotics should help to keep you going. Just have to really watch your diet
I have been suffering with LPR for the last 18 months or so. I have been seen by two ENT specialists and had numerous tests, cameras and probes fitted to try and test for traditional reflux or even to detect PH changes within the larynx. They all came back as being within the normal ranges. That doesn't help me with constant throat and hoarseness, along with mucous in the throat and ear problems, being pains mainly. Both ENT's have noted LPR and have seen the irritation at the back of my larynx. I can feel the burps prevalent during the day, in bed at night my condition seems at its best. As I wake my voice is always the strongest. The Gastro specialist does not believe that I present with LPR....! It is a very difficult situation to manage and feel tha tyou have the support of the people who you see help from. PPI's, tried two diffferent ones for months, did nothing at all to help. Not good at all :(
Hi. Mark. I'm experiencing the same symptoms. I just started the Acid Watchers diet. Read all the book reviews on Amazon. You have to be strict with your diet. It been a week for me on the diet. Three weeks since my Dr. Handed me a paper with a list of things I can't eat anymore. I noticed my post nasal drip is beginning to dry up since I started restricting bad foods.
@@calbertdawson5965 that is a good suggestion about the alkaline water. I have my own water filter jug to make it. It is diet, lifestyle and patience which will pay off in the end. I reckon.
@@Vimes. I tried taking vitamin D3 at 2000 IU per day. I can feel instantly the effect in that I no longer need to clear my throat every few seconds after a meal. In the past I will need to clear my throat every few seconds after a meal whenever I speak. That phlegm on my voice is so irritating and make me shy away from social situations. Does your condition improve now?
Ok, so he says that LPR symptoms do exist, but, that in recent studies, larynx issues have been proved to be caused by voice disorders or any other issues. So what the heck is one supposed to do??
My feeling is the evidence of LPR as a "fully reflex" disease caused by a defective UEP and aspiration of acidity and pepsin is very strong. That is not to say that voice disorders etc. can cause similar symptoms. The way to find out I guess is to do the lifestyle and diet changes, plus maybe PPIs too, and see if it gets better. Personally I'd go with Dr. Koufman's take on it, and using the LPR symptom score as the evidence is strong that it is predictive of LPR.
Know what they are doing they just may find out what it is not, so many are tired of doing this video that only says what the problem is not what the solution is
determine the potential cause if injury is chronic and stop the injury. follow acid reduction measures and alter lifestyle. rule out serious causes like cancer
HCI with betaine and ACV tablets when you eat a meal. This new problem was driving me insane (throat clearing and coughing) mine was due to low stomach acid. I noticed a huge difference within days.
I suffer a lot from LPR. Started having the symptoms around 2000, and it wasn't until 2011 that it was properly diagnosed by a ENT specialist. On days where symptoms flare I feel like I'm a nuisance to everyone around me because I gag and hack so much. Grosses everyone out. Get glares from people who think I'm being rude. Sometimes barfing helps. Other times I can't vomit, even if I try.
Not a doctor but, apparently Gaviscon with alginates (that is key, the alginates, an algae based ingredient, create a sieve like barrier of I think foam that helps keep stomach contents down). I guess this helps keep reduce the amount of pepsin in the reflux which is another substance in reflux that can cause damage apart from acid. The Gaviscon *with alginates* is only available in the UK though, iirc, but I’m sure you can buy it online. Can’t vouche yet for it’s effectiveness but it’s a med that works on a different aspect of the reflux than the acid that most meds target. Might be worth a try. I’m going to. Some people swear by it.
@@arushkashyap6461 I have. I’m not sure how effective they are, I never personally noticed a big differ so didn’t persist with the Gaviscon. Luckily my LPR has begun to improve a bit over the last 6 months with heavy PPI dose and lifestyle changes. I know I can’t take massive amounts of PPIs my whole life and will probably give the Gaviscon another try if the symptom worsen again and I’m not a candidate for surgery.
don't eat oily spicy outside food don't eat chips popcorn etc Gargle with salt water 3 times a day atleast Don't eat citric fruits like orange lemon grapes Don't eat tomatto and never eat raw onion Don't eat masala product like maggy pasta etc Elevate your head side 6 inches atlease so create a slop so acid don't come up Observe if diary milk curd lassi creates problem or not if do than leave them also Never sleep or lay down after meal always lay down after 2-3 ours of sleep Take dinner early and don't sleep before 2-3 hours after that Take small meals 4-5 times a day don't take large meals only eat 60% of your capacity Eat soft spiceless fruits Take 1/3 little baking soda and drink when you feel irritation and drink every 3 days if possible only little soda not more It will kill acid in your throat I am suffering from LPR from one year so I have tried and observe every thing Also consult ent doctor Take 20 minute walk after dinner Don't do hard exercise gym or weight lifting it will create more acid reflux Don't clear your throat distract your self in some work Drink small sips of water when throat stuck feel because clearing throat will irritate it further if you don't clear throat and sip water than your throat will heal in 1-2 day Also don't drink too much water at a single time it will create more acid reflux Remember this tips will greatly help but going to ent doctor is also required Because many illness have same symptoms and all parts are deeply connected so you may never know your disease without doctor
Quite a good list you have, but there are more things to try. Of course apple cider vinegar. And melatonin. And carnivore/low carb diet. No sugar. Also see Ken D Berry videos, and Dr Eric Berg. I'm going through a long list of different things pple swear has completely cured GERD for them.
Having LPR symptoms since Dec of last year and it is no fun at all. I have seen two separate ENT surgeons, various tests and cameras, and had an endoscopy by a gastro specialist. All was well except for the noted inflammation of the larynx. Back to the Gastro specialist on Saturday for a restech pH device to be fitted in the throat to monitor pH levels for 24 hours. Previously I have had a bravo chip fitted for 24 hours for reflux monitoring but that was within normal expectations. The difficulty can be is to be taken seriously and not left feeling abandoned. Thankfully the Gastro specialist does believe in LPR. Good luck to all
Hey there- I have reduced my LPR symptoms to almost nothing. If you scroll down, you will see my comment replies detailing what steps I took to do it. I hope it helps.
@@comhrac Thanks for letting me know. Reading your previous replies pretty much confirms what I have already started to do. Diet and gut health seems crucial to bring able to manage this condition. Most of what you have written I have started to implement. Anxiety for me is another thing that I will need to control. I use Peptac as it is cheaper than Gaviscon advanced, same amount of ingredients. I am learning to control portion sizes of my meals, that will help as that can be an issue, especially when eating in company and you get dished large amounts of food. The food choices is also most important. I have also found a Probiotic that I have started to use that my digestive system seems to tolerate. Unfortunately I'm in the middle of a lengthy course of antibiotics due to a chronic sinus infection, recently had surgery on both of my maxillary sinuses. When that course is over, three weeks left, that will improve things I'm sure. I have got a wedge that I use, it takes some getting used to and not slipping down. I drink filtered water as it greatly increases the pH levels, which should be beneficial. I have found a company selling live unpasteurised sauerkraut and started to eat that each day. I get the impression that this is a long term management thing and you need to be strict and committed to making change. Overall how is your voice now compared to what you would say is normal.? I do believe that is a very very slow healing process.
@@stevethomas3839 Thankfully for me no. But I often read that is a very real symptom for many people with LPR. It mainly affects my larynx and vocal cords. Have you had any diagnostic tests, which I feel are important to undertake..?
@@Vimes. My doctor did a throat endoscopy and I was diagnosed with LPR.I have been having severe episodes of acute breathlessness and reflux for the past 10 years.I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder, hypertension, bronchial asthma etc and treated with medications, all of them which proved to be useless.I came to know about LPR just recently and the symptoms matched exactly with mine.My doc prescribed PPI's but they too haven't been that effective.
I had the same problem too. Recently I found out that eating Banana & papaya everyday really help. And also drink a cup of Pure chamomile tea(Cold or warm is up to you) (at night) everyday. My throat kind of heal from reflux after repeating this everyday. Works like magic. Just Rmb not to eat or drink 3hours before ur bed time. Avoid spicy food, tomatoes, alcohol, food that contains vinegar, gassy drinks, acidic fruits and fried food.
it can stop the reflux for long hours and better than ppi if u have reflux then yes it is good. ENT or gestro who diagnosed LPR. I have been to two ENT n one gestro they just giving ppi. plz reply. One more thing go for vitamin D and B12 tests.
Hey guys!! I had LPR ( acid reflux ) . I tried medicine and diet change. It doesnot make difference at all. I was constantly clearing my throat. I tried one thing which make my condition better. I used to soak two tablespoons of cumin seeds in water for whole night and then in morning I boiled it . Boiled it until 1 part of water left in pan. You have to drink that in morning before even having breakfast. I used eat the cumin seed that left at end.It really works for me & I still have diet control( not eating stuff causes acid reflux). During night I took big pillow under my head . Which stop acid to go into my larynx.
I've been suffering LPR too since 2016. Gastro gave all kinds of ppi but it did not work...the condition became worst. I'm having DIY research on how to treat this condition. I decided to stoo taking ppi because its useless.
my mom has chronic cough but she never complaints of heartburn or any other GERD symptoms other than cough. She coughs through out the day and mostly while laying down for sleep. However , she never complaints of any acidic reflux. The chest x-ray came Normal twice. Anyone have a success story. I have been suffering from LPR about five years now. I have constant throat clearing and coughing with mucus on a daily basis. I cough so much till I vomit all my food. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks
Was diagnosed with LPR 2 months back. And other issues with my stomach/ digestion . since then started major diet changes, no spicy or food from outside , no processed food , no pasta or anything made from wheat or flour. sunflower oil changed to sesame or olive oil , coconut oil ,, mostly had stir fry vegetables with some quinoa,, after 15-20 days started adding chicken breast pieces , salmon, started useing almond flour , coconut flour instead of wheat or plain flour , no sugar, incorporate more fruits (avoiding critic food like orange) also started intermittent fasting(low carb) diet to loosing weight. Plus started taking liquorice powder tea twice a day early morning empty stomach and night , eat food at least 3-4 hours before bed. For 1 month now only on mornings. Strictly follow Early bed and early rise. Plays very important part. And no stress. Started walking at least an hour plus yoga and other exercise Now after 2 months i dont feel that constant thing in my throat, yes you do feel it sometimes if you eat something stupid ,, Hope if you could follow this it might help you.

One side of my throat feels blocked and kinda hurts and it isn’t comfortable and I keep having or wanting to burp, I was just swallowing a lump that kept coming up and it’s so uncomfortable cannot breathe if I don’t swallow it, what medication helps for this?? I need relief please.
My problems started after a flu in 2012. I have chronic sore and red throat, swollen uvula, air hunger, strange sensations in chest, but no heartburn. I yawn all day long to catch a satisfying breath. I honestly wish i was dead. Cant take it anymore. Havent read a single full recovery story. I believe flu has damaged my UES, not LES. That is my only logical explanation. I loved life, but now i cant work, do hobbies, enjoy life, it is a horrible condition. It took everything away from me. I dont think there will be solution for this in near future.
BREAKING SPIRITS I am very sorry for you. I hope u find a solution. I kind of gave it up. Nothin seems to help and even surgeries cant fix it. But some people report great success with fast tract diet. I dont believe in it, i fear my lpr is due to a complex and irreversibble nerve damage. there are some things I can recodmend that might help but you have to stick with them for a full month to see improvement #1 take probiotics I recodmend ultimate flora 100 billion #2 take fruit smoothies #3 no acidic food or pop or sugar or spicy foods #4 take vitamin d3 supplements #5 try prednisone prescription required #6 try Eno twice daily #7 if you smoke or vape stop. Trying all these things should give you some sort of relief but I do not know for how long.let me know how it goes
I think you are all asking the wrong question. Wat I want to know for my 6 year old is, why is liquid, gases moving upwards in the first place? Wat is the cause? Is it in the organs?
ive had lrp for 2 years it was severe on just one side on through after 1 year on ppi it improved some i was getting food stuck up that high that stopped along with the apricot pit feel and the swallow lymph node i got after dental work that all healed but im still left with lpr it didnt go away completely not sure what to do now
Same. My life is a misery. Mine started in May right after having the vaccine. Never had anything like it before so couldn't understand what the strangling sensation was. If you can control the reflux (I am taking omeprazole at the momenf) you can get rid of that throat feeling. But mine still comes and goes. It's a nightmare. Doesn't seem to be any solution to it or answers.
@@NM-gy6tx Organic black strap mollases is good for unlocking the strangling sensation. Put the jar in the fridge and lick a t-spoon any time you have the throat strangulation. Let me know if it helps.
Yes! It's as bad as the reflux. I lick a teaspoon of pure honey and turmeric powder daily. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory. Globus may be from inflamed esophagus. I also gargle with warm salt water and massage my throat and deep breathing and YT videos on esophageal exercise.
Dissolve sodium bicarbonate in water (you want it pretty concentrated, something like 2 or 3 teaspoons in 6 oz water; then gargle with it. Don't drink it.
Why are they listing all these drugs as trials? I'd like to see what happens if they abstain from food 6 hours before bed and sleep in a recliner. That would make more sense than any drug. This seems to have happened to me due to eating one large meal a day. It may have started when I did this at noon, but for a long time I was eating it at night. That makes sense my body couldn't take that for months and months on end. I was doing this for health benefits and strength training. I started getting excess salivation (water brash) and stinging of eyes (blepharitis). I also experienced some throat symptoms like clearling throat a lot early on after a huge meal. This was only early on and went away. However, I do notice difficulty being loud and with some speaking sometimes. So, I'm stopping eating a night. And eating multiple meals. I may sleep inclined. I'm unsure if I'll take anything for gallbladder or HCL.
MrApplewine I had a gall bladder stone removed at 25! I'm 57 today...I think I have this reflux. Check your gallbladder...you only need to drink some chalk shake and x Ray. My stone was 2 and 1/2 centimeters! With a stone, you can't eat anything...you keep puking...feel awful..some folks have back pain. I didn't. Garlic is the worst food for gallbladder. High fats are bad too. The gall is used to create bile so foods break down easy. If it's duct it plugged up, you don't get bile...food cannot be digest hence you puke. The reflux is a little different. It's all about your throat. Stomach only gets upset if a major episode happens. Coughing, belch, hard to swallow..it's like you feel you have a cold coming on or allergies.
It could turn out to be tinnitus, I know because I have tinnitus because of LPR, it's not easy at all, you must change your lifestyle drastically, no coffe, no alcohol, no fry food, no spicy food, you must sleep in elevated bed, you must improve your posture if you don't handle carefully it could be affect your back, so it's not a easy illness

I know that I had h-pylorie that was causing acid reflux for me for 11 years I was on acid pills but It did little to nothing for the acid. Hopefully this helps you.
You mean taking low salt reduces the acid in stomach? I read somewhere that LPR patients usually have prolonged digestions due to lack of acid in stomach. Does that mean increasing salt in food will increase acid in stomach?
Usman M. ..... Salt / Sodium is required for acid production. If it's reduced, it means that a vital element / ingredient has been removed. A correct level of Sodium, Hydrochloric acid and Peptic acid is required to trigger the shpincter / valve. If the level is reduced either by lack of production, or by water dilution before and after eating, then reflux will occur. PPIs and antacids reduce acid and make the problem worse ....
The nasal mucosa is making alkaline mucous at a pH as high as 8.3. This is in response to reflux or just an excess of stomach acid that needs to be buffered to some degree. Just one man's opinion.

And I kept telling the DR because of that I can’t sing anymore ive had a lot of antibiotics over the last year for different things , when I first went to the Lung specialist 6 months ago because I couldn’t breath. I told him it’s not asthma. As my asthma has been under control for 20 years , and this breathing problem did not stop my breathing problem with asthma medication my sputum was clear and stringy all he dismissed what I had said and said it was asthma and sent me on my way , mean while about 20 visits to the DR no help he would send me to the hospital, they would send me home . So in the end I started doing my own research, and asked if I could have a ct scan it showed I had Viral pneumonia so was treated for that , my breathing got worse after the abx my voice was so bad I could hardly talk has been that way for weeks . LPR AND APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: Anyone here have the correct advice? LPR = avoid anything acidic for 6 months. Why is Apple Cider Vinegar is recommended by some ENT doctors? But, when someone with ACV drinks anything acidic it activates the pepsin in throat which start eating away at your lining and lose your voice? Apple cider vinegar should only be taken as a pill 💊 if you have LPR ? Correct? Does anyone know?
I have drastically reduced the negative effects of my LPR. I never had a single occurrence of reflux of any sort until the age of 39, when it came on suddenly and absolutely destroyed my voice (singing is part of how I make a living). I had a lump in my throat 24 hrs a day, could not stop swallowing, would frequently get a dry cough, and lost my voice almost entirely for 2 months. Despite already maintaining an extremely healthy diet and being very physically fit before the reflux started, here is what I did: - cut alcohol completely - cut caffeine completely - no tomatoes, onions, peppers - keep meals to about 500 calories, at least 2 hours apart - don't drink while eating or for half an hour afterward - don't sing or exercise for an hour after eating - wait at least 2 hours after last meal before going to sleep - use a wedge pillow to elevate entire upper body while sleeping (I use a 12" wedge) - take Gaviscon Advance between last meal and going to sleep (MUST be the UK formula, you can order it on Amazon and they'll ship to the US. It does NOT affect stomach acid, it essentially contains algae that creates a barrier of foam to prevent acid from going back up your esophagus) Most people are not willing to make diet and lifestyle changes like that, and so they will never get control of their LPR. It means giving up beer and soda and tomato sauce, it means paying strict attention to when you eat, it means asking about what is in foods at restaurants, it means adjusting to sleeping on an incline. But doing the things I listed above has dramatically reduced my LPR, almost entirely. The choice is yours.
@@krisfarrow4399 Thats great to hear, my root cause of all of this are gut issues along with hpylori, im hoping once i can cure that my Lpr symptoms will get better, what was your root cause any idea?
I think I have this.. #1, I had gallbladder removed when I was 25. #2, I always had problems with certain food like milk. #3 stress is also a big trigger It's worst at night...I wake up every 2-3 hrs. Sometimes I need to puke. Feel better after. Lack of sleep does rapidly decline quality of life. I always thought it was allergies combined with stress. I'm going to see the doctor Wednesday. It's been going on too long..
The puking makes me think you are not digesting food properly (low stomach acid) or you have gastroparesis. There is a test for gastroparesis to rule that out. Many people who have LPR or GERD actually have low stomach acid causing the food to sit and putrefy causing pressure on the LES.
Try Organic black strap mollases. It is good for unlocking the strangling sensation. Put the jar in the fridge and lick a t-spoon any time you have the throat strangulation. Let me know if it helps.
Anyone here try taking vitamin D3 supplements? It helps me instantly. I no longer have to clear my throat every few seconds when I speak (especially after a meal). It certainly helps a lot as my job requires me to speak a lot
A man and a woman healthy until they are 57 years old and then suddenly have LPR what is the cause, if you can determine the cause then you can solve the problem
Ever since trying this acid reflux treatment “Aυstin Samupko” (do Go ogle to find it), my entire life has returned to healthy such as I do not had a health condition. As of this writing, it feels amazing like nothing horrible on my wellness happened before I feel so strong as well as revived. My signs and symptoms of acid reflux disorder are history..
Laryngo-Pharyngeal Reflux LPR aka, Silent Acid Reflux
Not a dr.
How far will it progress?)
• Anxiety from difficulty breathing exacerbating symptoms like a racing heartbeat
• Shortness of breath
• Difficulty swallowing
• Mucus build up and stuffy nose furthering a closing throat sensation
• Globus, lump in throat, sticking food
• Pain and tightening in neck and back muscles
• Tingling in arms and or fingers. Try to avoid a full on panic attack here.
• Burping
• Inability to and fear of eating, weakness, lack of nutrition, rapid weight loss
• Dizziness
• Racing and irregular heartbeat. I knew it wasn’t a heart attack because it came on only after eating although the symptoms are similar to heart problems which increases anxiety, which increases all the symptoms. Go to a Dr. if you need to.
• Dehydration
• Vegus Nerve affected which runs throughout whole body affecting everything
• Low Stomach Acid means difficulty digesting food thus not getting required nutrients and protein.
• Rule out Hiatal Hernia and H-pylori infection
Natural Remedies.
What to avoid
• Fried foods
• Processed junk foods
• Sugary foods
• Alcohol
• Mint
• Fatty foods
• Acidic foods
• Difficult to digest foods
• Spicey foods
• Mint
• Caffeine
• Smoking anything…
• Carbonated beverages
• Glutin?
• Ginger at first because of the spiciness and may cause arrythmia of the heart = anxiety = stress
• Do not add fiber it will aggravate globus and deter motility of food. Gag.
Possible Causes although largely unknown
• Manage your STRESS, known to be a major cause that affects well, everything especially the digestive tract. Relax.
• Hormones, age
• Family history
• Antacid overuse
• Sleeping postures or tight clothes. Anything that puts pressure on the stomach and causes acidic gas to rise
• Injury, throwing up
• Poor lifestyle choices
• Illness. Coughing hard
• Pancreatic or stomach cancers, ulcers, diseases
Helpful suggestions but do your own research. Recommend watching Dr. Berg and Dr Mandel (motivationaldoc) on TH-cam, social media. Very helpful.
• Walk after each meal, even a little bit helps digestion
• Wear loose clothing
• Intermittent Fasting allows healing and as part of a KETO light lifestyle
• ACV Apple Cider Vinegar 1 Tbls in 5 oz. water, ½ hour before meals helps digestion with low stomach acid. Not good for ulcers and with some meds. Research.
• Digestive Enzymes before meals
• Gaviscon Advance, only available from Europe or Amazon
• Pre and Probiotics, strive for a healthy gut biome. Will increase happiness and health.
• Vitamins, especially B, potassium, Zink L-Carnosine (repairs stomach and esophagus lining)
• Eat small meals. Eat slowly
• Chew 30X before swallowing
• Gargle with warm salt water if experiencing too much mucus
• Fruit flavored gum to stimulate digestion
• Chamomile tea
• Exercise to reduce stress when able
• Melatonin helps
• Meditate, breath, try to relax
• Positive Affirmations. You can and will get better
• PRAY

I'm shaking watching this. I've been having on and off panic attacks because my throat feels closed a bit. I haven't eaten a meal in days. Just sipping on liquids. I haven't been diagnosed yet but I'm pretty certain this is what I have. Praying for relief. 🙏
My throat feels the same, although I still manage to eat, mainly soups and shakes. I try to stay calm and not panick but it is difficult.
Its been 5 years, is there any treatment that has been found?
Surgery *might* help, although there are no guarantees.
It is a very good speech doctor, But I was waiting for a solution for the patients suffering with LPr which doesn’t help with PPI medications
H2 blockers is good rather than ppi which are Gerd
Have you treat your lpr??
Do Kapalbhati and anulom vilom pranayama 30 minutes each for 30 Days
I found out I have sibo (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) which caused mucous abnormalities in my gut. Im always clearing my throat. Also a bad taste in my mouth and bad breath. One for the record of what this man is saying, PPIs (acid blockers) actually make your stomach acid so low after a period of time and do not get to the root cause of the issue. Having constant low stomach acid attracts bad bacteria, candida overgrowth of the gut and parasites. Baking soda neutralizes stomach acid. No need for PPIs. 👍
please tell me if you ever solved this. I have the same exact symptoms (bad breath and throat clearing but no heartburn)

Does LPR impact the sinuses at all?
Greg Profitt if your nose is burning then yes . stay safe
Me
Yes absolutely.
So it will probably be at least the full 6 months for me feel free to add me if you ever need someone to talk to about it
@vivek rajput I’ve also starting adopting an Ayurvedic lifestyle. My dosha is pitta so naturally that guided me into my new diet pretty easily

Hey how are you feeling now did you get rid of your acid reflex?

Drink alkaline water I like Evamore & go to the vitamin shoppe and get their aloe stomach smoothing remedy in a pink & white bottle
@@j.peluso7906 diet and lifestyle choices will be key to managing this condition. Stress also plays a part.
Ive suffer this LPR (?) for about 5 years and still the same
Does it cause any sinus problems ?
HCI with betaine and ACV tablets when you eat a meal. This new problem was driving me insane (throat clearing and coughing) mine was due to low stomach acid. I noticed a huge difference within days.
Still working for yoy
I suffer a lot from LPR. Started having the symptoms around 2000, and it wasn't until 2011 that it was properly diagnosed by a ENT specialist. On days where symptoms flare I feel like I'm a nuisance to everyone around me because I gag and hack so much. Grosses everyone out. Get glares from people who think I'm being rude. Sometimes barfing helps. Other times I can't vomit, even if I try.
Have you tried the Acid watchers diet? Look up Dr. Jonathan Aviv.
I gave up PPIs and things improved greatly.
elaborate pls.. many people need help. today for them tomorrow for you
Doctor can you please suggest medicine for this . . .? Please
@@skarletrose1 u tried?
@@arushkashyap6461 I have. I’m not sure how effective they are, I never personally noticed a big differ so didn’t persist with the Gaviscon. Luckily my LPR has begun to improve a bit over the last 6 months with heavy PPI dose and lifestyle changes. I know I can’t take massive amounts of PPIs my whole life and will probably give the Gaviscon another try if the symptom worsen again and I’m not a candidate for surgery.

Is bad breath from throat a symptom of LPR?
Yes
@@ishthefish9006 or maybe a sign of a relaxed (open) esophageal sphincter and GERD.
I read that LPR can cause bad breath.
I have LPR. YOu can have bad breath w/o LPR.
8 years i suffered with this shit ,its no life
Have you cured
Im glad something is acknowledged, great. Now how do i make it go away. I can't drink lidocaine everyday i know that.
Lpr can be confused with psycho somatic causes like stress and anxiety and lack of acid in stomach
don't eat oily spicy outside food don't eat chips popcorn etc
Gargle with salt water 3 times a day atleast
Don't eat citric fruits like orange lemon grapes
Don't eat tomatto and never eat raw onion
Don't eat masala product like maggy pasta etc
Elevate your head side 6 inches atlease so create a slop so acid don't come up
Observe if diary milk curd lassi creates problem or not if do than leave them also
Never sleep or lay down after meal always lay down after 2-3 ours of sleep
Take dinner early and don't sleep before 2-3 hours after that
Take small meals 4-5 times a day don't take large meals only eat 60% of your capacity
Eat soft spiceless fruits
Take 1/3 little baking soda and drink when you feel irritation and drink every 3 days if possible only little soda not more
It will kill acid in your throat
I am suffering from LPR from one year so I have tried and observe every thing
Also consult ent doctor
Take 20 minute walk after dinner
Don't do hard exercise gym or weight lifting it will create more acid reflux
Don't clear your throat distract your self in some work
Drink small sips of water when throat stuck feel because clearing throat will irritate it further if you don't clear throat and sip water than your throat will heal in 1-2 day
Also don't drink too much water at a single time it will create more acid reflux
Remember this tips will greatly help but going to ent doctor is also required
Because many illness have same symptoms and all parts are deeply connected so you may never know your disease without doctor
These tips are great undoubtedly👌👌

@᛫Vive Mode᛫ how’d you get rid of it?
I just want the Globus sensation to go away. I'm in hell.
Yeah this is the worst
@@NM-gy6tx Organic black strap mollases is good for unlocking the strangling sensation. Put the jar in the fridge and lick a t-spoon any time you have the throat strangulation. Let me know if it helps.
Yes! It's as bad as the reflux. I lick a teaspoon of pure honey and turmeric powder daily. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory. Globus may be from inflamed esophagus. I also gargle with warm salt water and massage my throat and deep breathing and YT videos on esophageal exercise.
Try baking soda gargle. Works for me

Yes, I was eating late and going to be about 2 hours after eating for awhile and then I got this LPR

For years I was told it was asthma.. This year at 32 I was told it was lpr. Funny not so funny thing, I read that the asthma medication makes it worse.... Also anxiety. But, imagine if you couldn't breathe properly. Definitely need to relax more and trying deep breathing.
Elizabeth Rigby how did you treat it? Im going through same thing :(
Lpr can cause anxiety and make your heart race from the excess mucus and swelling in your chest cavity I dealt with the same thing they misdiagnosed me numerous test and told me the only thing that would help is acid pills infect there is so many things that help outside of meds
jessica lilley can you tell us more pls? What helped you?
@@brth3637 it definitely causes some anxiety and discomfort! I have tried an antidepressant they suggested might help. But it didn't. Now I'm on aventalin, suggested that it will cause the cough to dull down. I'm on 20mg now. I was so shocked to see it wasn't asthma or allergies. It's been so long with this problem, about 20 years now. I hope this helps. I also have been trying to drink apple cider vinegar with the mother. Was also suggested that the reflux was caused by a lack of pepsin in the stomach, causing the attacks. I actually found that has helped. But I admit I need to take better action and be more consistent. No coffee or acidic foods. Warm water not cold and also oatmeal. Best of luck
@@brth3637 diet is a big thing so no coffee or caffeine tea, smoking alcohol. No tomatoes or pickles or oranges or acidic foods, no spicy food or dairy, or processed food, a good multivitamin, sleep in a up right position dont lay down after eatting or drinking for 3 hours wear lossish clothing, limit stress or anxiety. You can do the apple cider vinegar or 1 tbl of baking soda and and hafe a cup of warm water you get do a probiotic from a whole food place must be in the fridge as it has live good bacteria. Life style change didn’t touch mine
@@gina933 me neither.
What is the cause of LPR
improper digestion of food
imbalance in ph of stomach acid
STRESS..(important one)
Vitamin D and B12 deficiency
it is all what i know till now
Thats the phrase that terrifies me “there’s more to be done”
There doesn’t seem to be a solution for this problem right now
Low salt diets lower acid strength, and affect the sphincter trigger.
Usman M. .... PS: Taking HCL Betaine will help reset the acid levels if low ..... experiment with dose.
@@kiwipics have you had success with betaine hcl? Ive read it can trigger the LES to close and the reflux stops is this true?
@@kiwipics salt and pepsin goes hand in hand
The nasal mucosa is making alkaline mucous at a pH as high as 8.3. This is in response to reflux or just an excess of stomach acid that needs to be buffered to some degree. Just one man's opinion.
I have all symptoms, I’ve had For 9 months Gasping for air then the DR found I had pneumonia ,my voice has been hoarse for a few years now . So with my rear hand I’d done , I realised I had silent reflux Lpr so said this to myGp and he put mo on Nexium and I changed my diet So far the change is my breathing is getting worse , voice I a bit better , I’m desperate, as home alone and have no relief for my breathing only moderate from the sprays and ventolin /NOT ASTHMA/ my chest hurts from trying to breath it’s like my lungs are full of concert .. what can I do next is a a hiatus hernia , Is my oesophagus
Damaged , I’m getting more and more worn down by the day .. Oh I forgot I also get hot sweats and the clear runny nose , help 😪
have you tried drastically changing diet? are you over weight?
Praying for you Lorraine
Sorry Lorraine. Have you found a solution/relief?
How r u now?
LPR AND APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: Anyone here have the correct advice? LPR = avoid anything acidic for 6 months. Why is Apple Cider Vinegar is recommended by some ENT doctors? But, when someone with ACV drinks anything acidic it activates the pepsin in throat which start eating away at your lining and lose your voice? Apple cider vinegar should only be taken as a pill 💊 if you have LPR ? Correct? Does anyone know?
Has anyone had success with beating this disease any solutions or answers please help us ?

@@rinaldial4996I'm currently doing the AWD ,How are your symptoms, any success on curing your Lpr?
I have drastically reduced the negative effects of my LPR. I never had a single occurrence of reflux of any sort until the age of 39, when it came on suddenly and absolutely destroyed my voice (singing is part of how I make a living). I had a lump in my throat 24 hrs a day, could not stop swallowing, would frequently get a dry cough, and lost my voice almost entirely for 2 months. Despite already maintaining an extremely healthy diet and being very physically fit before the reflux started, here is what I did:
- cut alcohol completely
- cut caffeine completely
- no tomatoes, onions, peppers
- keep meals to about 500 calories, at least 2 hours apart
- don't drink while eating or for half an hour afterward
- don't sing or exercise for an hour after eating
- wait at least 2 hours after last meal before going to sleep
- use a wedge pillow to elevate entire upper body while sleeping (I use a 12" wedge)
- take Gaviscon Advance between last meal and going to sleep (MUST be the UK formula, you can order it on Amazon and they'll ship to the US. It does NOT affect stomach acid, it essentially contains algae that creates a barrier of foam to prevent acid from going back up your esophagus)
Most people are not willing to make diet and lifestyle changes like that, and so they will never get control of their LPR.
1/4 TSP of Apple Cider Vinegar in 1/2 cup of water after meals should help relieve reflux and hence reflex.
Did it work for you
I think I have this.. #1, I had gallbladder removed when I was 25. #2, I always had problems with certain food like milk. #3 stress is also a big trigger
It's worst at night...I wake up every 2-3 hrs. Sometimes I need to puke. Feel better after.
Lack of sleep does rapidly decline quality of life.
I always thought it was allergies combined with stress.
I'm going to see the doctor Wednesday. It's been going on too long..
How did it turn out for you after visiting doctor?
th-cam.com/video/uwuvc6tCXV0/w-d-xo.html
Dude, it's GERD. LPR is more prominent at day rather than night.
The puking makes me think you are not digesting food properly (low stomach acid) or you have gastroparesis. There is a test for gastroparesis to rule that out. Many people who have LPR or GERD actually have low stomach acid causing the food to sit and putrefy causing pressure on the LES.
Avoid fats if you don’t have gallbladder
I'm sick cancer and now this throat spasm
