  • December 15, 1976:
The Medical Malpractice Dilemma examines the causes and possible cures of the medical malpractice problem from the viewpoints of doctors, lawyers, and legislators, as well as the patients and the public at large. A distinguished panel addresses the salient questions on this timely subject: Has the recent increase in malpractice litigation been the result of poorer health care, increased consumer consciousness, or the contingency fee system of paying lawyers? How have medical malpractice suits affected the quality of health care? Will the attempts of state legislatures to ease the burden of high malpractice premiums be successful? Should a system of no-fault insurance be substituted for the current tort system? Or, should doctors found guilty of malpractice pay higher premiums?
    Panelists:
Otis R. Bowen - Governor of Indiana
Richard Markus - Judge, Court of Common Pleas, Cuyahoga County, OH
Jeffrey O'Connell - Professor, College of Law, University of Illinois
William B. Schwartz - Professor of medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine
    Moderator:
    John Charles Daly
