GG will be a future all star and possibly a superstar
What people are missing about Smart is, he is needed to guard those dawgs in the west (Booker, Luka, Ky, Murray Jalen Green and etc). Vince Williams may not be ready to start and has ZERO experience in meaningful games. You have to start the season giving Marcus a shot and see how it plays out. If he doesnt mesh woth the Core 3, then theres still time to trade him
Smart should only be traded if we end up with another player who can do what Smart is supposed to do better.
Honestly I will be pleasantly surprised if we are able to make a major trade. I see us making a major move after next season when decisions can be made on Santi, Zaire and Jake (although trade is possible at any time they can also just not be resigned to create a spot if a trade of our liking isn’t done). This opinion isn’t from lack of us trying; it’s more about other teams not offering what we really need.
I've been thinking about Smart, and for me is no sense to trade him when last postseason you traded to get him and last season you couldn't watch him perfom with your true squad. I don't think Kleiman will trade him after betting on him

@hillbilly21960 Marcus smart gets hurt playing very effing hard for contenders in tough regular season and playoff games. Vince Williams has the same lengthy injury history while only playing in the g league and in throwaway games for the Grizzlies lol

@@hillbilly21960yes, I see what the OP means for sure, but they also traded for Smart BEFORE VWJ broke out. Now you have both (and no starting caliber center), they're a little redundant. They can't play both VWJ and Smart to close out games because while the defense would be incredible, there's not enough spacing in that lineup with only Bane and JJJ as good three point shooters.
Damichael Cole, thank you for the insight. I believe you really know what you're talking about. I did hear you mention Jaren at the 5. I would love to get your insight on what the Grizzlies' plans are to fill the holes at the center spot.

It seems that changes in the squad are because of the injuries last season and being able to see what this group can do together.
They were really good in those 9 games they played together.

The available playing is at center. I think they should draft a center at 9. Not waste any assets because they depend on a rookie to be difference maker and they can't be sure that the asset offered for a veteran will be a positive net gain.
I would think that drafting two young Euro Stashs in second round would useful. It doesn't interfere with roster spots but offers potential net gain assets in the future.
Pick up the undrafted SF/SG that's highest on the board and sign then to a two-way.
Renegotiate Kennard's contract ($50M over 5 years would reasonable to me). High percentage 3PT shooters have a long shelf life in the NBA.
Then sign Andre Drummond as your first limited use big.

Rose won't get traded, but they might need a roster spot at some point.
He might not, but the Grizzlies shouldn't set on a mistake. Rose has had this pattern of injuries for years. As he ages, why would the Grizzlies think he's capable of playing a half season.

Kennard is always on the chopping block and he’s the most efficient shooter in the league. Memphis is among the worst shooting teams in the league. We need kennard.

Luke is one of the better shooters in the league. When games get super competitive, he can't get a shot off/playoffs. His high salary and being a liability on defense make him expendable.
Kennard can score but he does not contribute enough for us to win a chip...
@@Eagle8 his playoff stats for Memphis entails 5 games, he was 8/16 from 3 point and shot 50%. His field goal percentage was 12/23 which is 52%. His free throw was perfect 100%. He averaged 21 minutes a game. He only averaged 7.2 points a game, but at 36 minutes he’d be around 13 points a game. He was hurt his last two games he played and didn’t suit in the 5th game.
I just don’t see that as a terrible sample. His role is to pull defenders close to him and create space because teams know you can leave him open. Dude was 50% from 3.
But again, that’s a 5 game sample and two of which he was hurt.
We were average of +8 with kennard playing in that series. AND THAT WAS A SERIES WE GOT OUR ASSES HANDED TO US.
I agree that this dude needs to shoot more. But we don’t need him scoring 20 points. We could use 15 from him and high efficiency to keep defenders stuck to him.
Ja, Dez and Jaren are going to be putting up around 65-70 points a game on average. Another 50 to 60 points from everyone else is all you need to win 60 games. So if kennard gets us 12, BC 10, Smart 10, Williams 10, GG 10 and all the rest of the guys, including new center can pull together 10 to 15 points, we are a 130 point team. Obviously some nights far less, when defensive games occur. But the point is, you don’t need a lot of points from kennard. You just need him to be really high efficiency and good for 10 point games with the occasional big game.
TRADE Smart, Kennard, Konchar, and Aldama. We need two starters that fit Ja better in the half court offense. Spacing, shooting, and rebounding are key. The salary for those is about 39 mil per year. It can't be wasted on non starters that are not dependable, and you have a big 3 on max contracts.
They have to fit with everyone not just Ja though
