- These optional scenes are only seen if you've recruited enough characters in Suikoden II before the points at which they're scheduled to occur. There's really no relevance to the main plot of the game, but the scenes are cute, and offer a little extra bit of insight into Flik and Nina.
suikoden 2 is just too for a game !! if it were a film, it would get 108 Oscar Award for all characters.
Nina just wants some of that Blue Lightning Action.
If you played Suikoden 1, these scenes are really touching and sad... Flik still in sorrow about Odessa death. By the time of Suikoden 2, Flik is a mature person and master swordman and not the cocky guy he was in Suikoden 1, specially before Odessa death.
I have agreed, since by Suikoden 1, Flik refuses to acknowledge Tir for being the leader not until Gremio's death. And by Suikoden 2 he even let Riou join the battle againts Highlanders by defeating him in a duel.
Nina is my favorite character (in the entire series actually), I always have her in my party. And surprisingly, she is actually a very good fighter/fire mage.
Time changes people's hearts...

@@shaunavayne6488 Luc can't stand to just see the tragedy from True Runes so he became villain so it's prevent the real war. The one that surprised is he can collab with anyone and use plenty wrong way as long the result is better. So he killed plenty people o prevent more victim in future. You can see the youtobe of game at Luc's perspective and manga.

@@xxx6140 In Suikoden 3, actually if Luc just stand as usual, There'll be war from Harmonia vs Karayan vs Knights. So he became the villain so they'll at least reduce victims. He also want to destroy True Runes before calamity came (end of the world), so he want to kill himself along the True Rune he got. He is incited all side's hatred toward him, then 3 side will forgot that they are enemies so they try to understand each other. Luc's group also only himself, the childhood friends mage, Albert who got same thinking, and Yuber who want to see bloody war.
I wish I could find someone who loves me just like Nina loves Flik..-_-
I had once in my life someone like that, for many years. But unlike Flik, I lost her because of my actions, and I didn't fully appreciate her either.
If you find that someone, make it count man. It's a wild world and a short life.

THAT was a woman. She was so brave and selfless, Flik suffered so much when she died, that he refused to join you until much later in the game, just because of that reason...
When in her dying breath she told them that they should throw her body to the sewers and hide her death, just so the troops wouldn't lose morale, I actually cried like a little girl..T_T

Yeah Odessa was pretty awesome.
1) Actually, Flik joined just one minute after he learned Odessa was dead. Lol.
2) one of the comments here is right, Odessa's soul got stuck in the Soul Eater.
3) Her death death scene made no sense and it was just forced. Was was a child doing there? There was never one in the first place, but he appears only for that scene, and it is out of place, it was a secret base of rebels. There is not a coherent reason for a child to be there.
@@SeventhheavenDK iirc Flik storms out of the castle when he learns Odessa died, and goes to one of those villages. then you talk to him to convince him to fight. I don't remember him just joining immediately, but your point still stands about him not joining a lot later
The child was probably from the inn, unrelated to the hideout. The innkeeper is seen collapsed on the ground suggesting that the soldiers just came in and raided the building, so it's likely the child escaped into the hideout when he saw the commotion. The empire's soldiers had multiple scenes showing no mercy to civilians if they needed to even outside of the context of Black Rune (like soldiers threatening Mathiu's students to be sent to be worked to their imminent deaths at Banaar Mines) so it wouldn't be surprising if they acted the same to innocents inside the inn.
flik and nina, still a better love story than twillight.
To be fair, that is a pretty low bar to clear. Hell, Vincent and Simone is a better love story than Twilight.

You guys... it's not a translation error. There's no way Flik, given his character, would have said outright that he was thinking of Odessa. Nina definitely said that, and Flik was referring to Victor as equivalent to 'Mr. Talkative'.

I watched a video that explained that the translators had a lot of problems to, well...translate the script, the Japanese script given to them was a mess to the point that it didn't even specified who said what, or sometimes it was difficult to translate accurately the script.
So it could really had been a translation error.

Finally got to play and understood suikoden ii (along with some more reading on the lore online), honestly, it would be nice if Flik did wait for Nina.
People in the comments here mentioned how indecisive she is, but maybe this convo with Flik made her think about the heart and time? Maybe in the end, her feelings didn’t waver. I mean, the lore online did mention that she’s still waiting for him at Greenhill… it would’ve been nice for Flik to have someone again-seeing as all he’s done is fight.
I think a part of Flik wants to wait for Nina. He seems intrigued when Nina declares her feelings will never change. I think it reminds him of his own naive optimism before Suikoden 1.
There’s the age difference obviously, (According to the wiki, Nina is 16, Flik is 28.) but if she’s true to her word, I ship it.
Yes, I personally have always thought that she will keep her word.
Time will change her heart, yes, but in the form that she will become more mature.
99% of their shared scenes consist of Nina being an insufferable fangirl stalker and Flik showing no interest at all. Don't get me wrong, she is a hilarious addition to the cast, but Flik x Nina really does not work imo. Maybe if they developed it more (they didn't) I could be convinced because this scene alone really does not do it for me
@@Piggy_Piggerson True if they had made a Suikoden 6 have it be set after Suikoden 3 story set in Harmonia have Flik and a adult more mature Nina. We could get a good scene of say Nina finally understood what Flik meant that time changes people hearts. It would show she has changed, overtime and considers Flik more of a rolemodel then a crush.

To get these scenes, during the few times towards the end of the game that you are *supposed* to go to sleep but can still run around the castle, go out your bedroom door and head left up the spiral staircase.
Can't wait for Eiyuden! I love these devs! Read some interviews with them.
20 minutes in the game...but do you knew there are Suikoden novelizations? They provide a much deeper introspection of otherwise "ignored" characters such as Clive or Sierra.

Flik seems a lot different from Suiko 1. Did he grow much older? He seems to have went from a teen to adult. Also, I think it's cute how Nina is trying to cheer up Flik. She's the type of friend who won't just say fluff to try to cheer someone up, she will actually have someone address the problem so they can overcome it. Pretty wise for someone so young.

It's called Suikogaiden, there are 2 volumes from what I know. Picture based game really for PSX. Follows Nash Latjke (from Suikoden III) and Sierra and Clive are in them, and shows Nash's involvement in the unification war. Incase you didn't already look it up I just thought I'd say it...

Flik's Suikdeon II portrait looks so much different and older than his Suikoden one. I like the first portrait better though. But still, Flik is one of my favorite, if not my all time favorite, Suikoden characters. Like ever.

Yeah or europe (I live in Sweden), it kind of made me a little sad since I've played all Suikoden games...or so I thought. When I heard Nash and Sierra were possibly married it made me want the games even more to see what happened between them.
But since Japan has to be asshats I'll never know.

There are also cutscenes of the Gypsy Siblings (Rina, Eilie and Bolgan) and the Kobolds (Gabocha and Gengen), but I failed to see this one even on my third go at Suikoden 2...

Before Luca, and before retaking Greenhill.
Flik and Nina are mandatory characters that join your party, so the true requisite actually is to get this scene is to recruit feather.
I cant remember if Ive seen this, its just before the Luca Blight fight, isnt it, when you see heaps of other characters as well?

How do you trigger this scene? I've played this game a few times recently. I can't seem to trigger this scene. The only recruit, available at this point, I thought I was missing was Oulan. Does this take place the night before the Luca battle?
Yes. I believe you have to go outside on the roof before going to bed the night before
You need to have recruited Feather and Ayda before the war battle/night raid agaisnt Luca Blight, then during the night before that battle go to the roof, the guard will be sleeping and you will get the first scene.
The second scene is gotten only if you got the first one, and it triggers during the night before attacking Greenhill (when Lucia attacks).

@Masteroftheweb if this is indeed the case, then why does Nash constantly make refferences to his wife throughout suiko3? That's the one thing about 3 that made no sense to me.

How can you triggered this scene?
You can trigger both scenes when you get the chance to wander around the HQ at night.
the first one is During the night before the ambush on Luca blight, you must at least have recruited Feather and Ayda before hand then go to the roof to see this scene were the guard will usually not allow you too go up further.
The second scene can happen after you triggered the first one is the night when Lucia attacks and before the battle of greenhills go to the roof to see this scene
I must admit when i first played this game years ago i didn't know the conditions on what i did too activate this scene and upon several replays i didn't get it again until the internet came along.

Everytime you'll be able to walk throught the castle in nightime, go to the roof. That way you'll see it. :)

Funny thing is I really don't think Nina will remain around him for long. First Shin, then Nash and now Flik. I bet that the next hot guy appears, she'll fall in love with...again. So in the end, it ain't gonna last long.

Oh right. Now that you've mentioned it, I do remember hearing about it before... and being kinda disappointed that there was never a North American release.
XD it's been over 10 years since i've played that game, dont spoil my little positive thinking
stupid nina,an academic of 16 years,messing with flik the blue lightning.they always say y suffer,need to move on.but i think flik unwavering heart to keep on loving odessa be she dead is in a way romantic n very true.i for one if my patner a dead,would be content on just remembering my old times with her rather than forgetting it n trying to replace it with new ones.there in being loyal is itself satisfaction.
He is too young for that, he has a life on front of him. Actually, Nina's words are very true and wise for someone so young.
