Excellent game this. Best RPG I've played - better than FF7 in my opinion. Great storyline, excellent battle systems, every character had interesting personality and overall, I loved the mini-games and other small things too! Cooking contest, the bath, all the other small side-stories (Victor - Sword, Flik and Nina etc.) Haha, this makes me want to play this game again~
So few games are true masterpieces, and this is one of them. The story and pacing were just epic, I still remember Luca Blight's dying monologue: "To end the war? Thats a fairy tale, a foolish child's dream. Even if you kill me and defeat highland you won't have peace, you'll have a defeated country screaming for vengeance! It took hundreds to kill me but I've killed by the thousands! Look at me, I am sublime! I am the true face of evil!" I still get chills thinking about that scene.
Luca was forced to witness his mother got raped by bandits (who were hired by Muse to attack them). So it's understandable where his hatred & madness come from.
i'm really happy to find out nanami is alive :') when i was kid, i was so sad she died and never find out about this ending this is the best RPG game i ever played beside chrono cross thanks for uplading this video :)
I just plowed through the game for my third playthrough a week ago. I was able to beat the game in under 24 hours while getting all 108 stars along with this ending. I have to say, it was definitely worth it. Both this and the normal ending are fantastic, although this one is far more uplifting than the other.
This video is frustrating as fuck. The sound and video is choppy and awful. You click through all the dialogue so fast that I have to constantly be clicking back through the progress bar just to hope to catch that .01s where it's displayed. That said, at least I got to watch what happens when you get all 108 stars and save Nanami.
damn i forgot about the promise to meet once the war is over on that hill with Jowy.. (I played without walktrough btw). thats why in the end I became the leader of the states and the "fin" screen is just Jowy alone on the hill.
When i played this game, it was ten years ago. I was just 8 years old... (1998, japanese version, as i am HongKonger) But this is still the best game ever... best music and story...
I love the ending..it didnt need fancy shinny CGI scenes to sell it. It was a wonderfully done character driven ending with excellent background music.
Suikoden 2 & 5 are the best RPG ever made... but the only problem I have with this ending is: How the hell did Shu knows that Riou is meeting Jowy at Tenzan Pass?
I think that Shu didn't know of Jowy also being there and as for Riou being on Tenzan pass, probably one of Shu's men told Riou left and Shu then asked for his informants(he probably has 1 on every town) his location or where they have last seen him since Riou being the leader and him being the strategist it's a must to know his location and eventually came to the conclusion that Riou's whereabouts being on Tenzan pass.
@reydgel143 Basically the only thing that could ruin finding all 108 characters are the following events: 1) anyone died (permanently) during a war game 2) You missed Clive (who is a missable character on a time limit) 3) You opted to not trust/forgive/excuse any characters. Examples would be telling Jess to gtfo, wanting to execute Kiba and Klaus, or simply not accepting characters who randomly want to participate (maximilian, Yai Ho, etc).

For THOSE of you who don't know. The regular Ending is the true (as in "real history") ending of Suikoden 2, as the developer said themselves. This is a "if a dream came true" ending, in (suikoden's) reality, they are both dead. Sad but, thats why Suikoden 2 is so real. :)
I agree with MrJPRamirez so much. the storyline is so epic. and I'm glad that there was an option to keep Nanami alive. I did not know that at first and when I reached the part when she "died". I really couldn't get over it. Saving her is really worth the effort. the last level of Riou's rune is not to be ignored either. Best of all the games in PS One if you'll ask me. Sadly, it's underrated.
The last scene where Pilika(the young girl) and Joey's Wife(Forgot her name though) is at a place somewhere in Harmonia or Harmonica if I'm not mistaken. Means they ave cover quite a lot of distances already. And this game is one of the most Epic game I've ever played in my life! Because of this game I grew to love Politics and Military History! Man, I wonder if Suikoden 3 is the sequel to their story.... Ps:-the Mysterious Dog there is actually a Jin Haiku, its a hidden character...
Get 2 of the Ancient Texts from the Kobold Village. They sell there about 400 potch. Just use the Save/Reset to get them, sell them off at the Forest Village. They sell there 20,000 potch each. Or get Wide Urns from Forest Village/Kobold Village and sell them at Crom. Or get Crystal Balls from Forest Village/Crom and sell them at the Kobold Village. You'll make 50,000 in no time. Go back to Gordon to recruit him.
@michelrpg After replaying the game, I just learned that not forgiving jess does mean he leaves, but you can not execute Klaus and Kiba. People will just say "it's not befitting for you to be so bloodthirsty" (What? I WANT THEIR HEADS!).

I don't play Suikoden I yet when I play Suikoden 2 but able to get 108 stars and this ending so, it is no need to load Suikoden I save. You should get 108 stars before get to Rockaxe. At the scene when Nanami about attacked by arrow you must choose the answer fast enough (half a second) to make Riou in prepare for attack position to protect Nanami, though he late so Nanami still attacked by arrow, but you should do it in order to get this ending or Nanami will never saved.

@kiCkLikEiSay jowy died because of Nanami's death. your supposed to have nanami in your party at the end to get the best ending, to save her you have to choose the Look out! option before she gets attacked by gorudo in rockaxe.

@suikogaidenFire You have to get all 108 stars, get Rious fourth spell (i think it was called Secret Sign), and Nanami and Jowy have to be alive to get the good ending.
I don't attack Jowy for be sure, but some people claim even they attack Jowy, they still get this ending as long as Jowy don't die (don't attack Jowy until his health bar empty). I don't test it. so I don't know for sure.

@kiCkLikEiSay Did you fight Jowy? I mean in their duel near the waterfalls after the final battle, did you attack him? To get the best ending you need to only defend until he stops attacking you. Then when Jowy collapses and asks you to kill him, keep saying no (if you managed to get all the stars before the Matilda battle he'll accept that you don't want to kill him). If you did it right if you, Shu comes to meet you in the next area as you leave.
at the scene when nanami died, pick an option, "Nanami, look out!" (computer only give u 1/2 second to pick) & hero will make a position to help nanami, if u not,hero will only just standing there doing nothing and get all 108 stars before u get to rockaxe.
@kiCkLikEiSay Maybe you have missed click "Nanami!" in half a second when she shot by the arrow, I missed it too in my first gameplay, I wondered since I thought I've followed the guide, turns out that I missed to click that, if you missed to click it in half of a second, the option will closed by itself. The sign that you've clicked "Nanami! is Hero will make a stance to protect Nanami, but if you missed to click that Hero will just stand there doing nothing.

Yes I agree with gegegenogex, this was the best RPG that i ever played, well the series in whole i mean. It was so rich with so many aspects of Storyline and lore. Only game that ever game close to this on a gameplay level an replay value imo was Grandia 1.
i never got to finish this game,my PS2 Lens exploded cause i played this 12 hours a day nonstop. I dont blame it. BEST GAME EVER>BEST MUSIC EVER>BEST STORYLINE EVER>BEST EVERYTHING!!!!!
Well, he stabbed the doll made like Jilia as sacrifice not the real Jilia, he order the real Jilia to take Pilika, change her name and live happily at another place where doesn't know them.

ah found the problem i went first downstairs and saw the scene with victor and flik then went to the meeting hall where riou was to accept the leader position but declined it..
I was about 13 or 14 when I played this game couple of years ago, best ps1 game I've played 'cept for ffvii and viii, but those games aren't really comparable tbh. :)
Read a walkthrough/FAQ. I honestly couldn't tell you how to get all 108 in a TH-cam comment. I'm actually playing through the game again on my Playstation trying to get all 108. I even loaded up my Suikoden I game file so I could get Tir McDohl, even though he's not one of the stars of destiny, I want to get everything!
do you already choose the answer, when Nanami about attacked by arrow at half a second (very fast), look at my video about Suikoden 2 - Nanami's death, if you're successful, it will look like that Riou with position that want about to attack and not only standing there.
@PSZ1231 yes ... you should done all 108 star before entering Rockaxe ( and the seal of the Hero rune can be broken , means you gain a new spell on the Hero Forgiver Sigh ) save your game before Nanami get shot by the arrow , simply by marching the buttom , to double comfirm you get it right ( Dr Huan will speak to Shu at the castle ) i play suikoden 2 again with the psp LOL ~
It's really heartbreaking when you accidentally didn't fulfill one of the requirements and it turns into a "But thou must" situation.

I've beat this game so many times but only got this ending once; anyone else keep forgetting to recruit Clive in Muse near the beginning of the game?

i never got to finish this game,my PS2 Lens exploded cause i played this 12 hours a day nonstop. I dont blame it. BEST GAME EVER>BEST MUSIC EVER>BEST STORYLINE EVER>BEST EVERYTHING!!!!!
Well, he stabbed the doll made like Jilia as sacrifice not the real Jilia, he order the real Jilia to take Pilika, change her name and live happily at another place where doesn't know them.
And I was so fortunate enough to buy whis game when it was still pretty unknown and had a reasonable price to it...Then again, awesomeness is priceless, that's why I will never sell it! ^^

you can,if you have 108 SoD before Rockaxe & pick option fast enough at scene when Nanami die (time only half of second).
I was played this game for seventh time ,but i can't got the happy ending.....
but now I know how was the happy ending thanks to you.... ^^
@kiCkLikEiSay @yuliapamela maybe right. I totally forgot about the whole split-second "Nanami!" moment in Matilda castle. If the conversation kept repeating and you probably chose the wrong option at that moment.
No, I think, I don't complete Clive quest but able to get this ending, as long as other requirement fullfilled.

ah found the problem i went first downstairs and saw the scene with victor and flik then went to the meeting hall where riou was to accept the leader position but declined it..
'IF' the player gather all 108 characters in the game. And if not, she'll die.
The story is effing deep~! The very reason why we all love Suikoden 2.
But I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Rune of Beginning though. Lol.
well i thought the ending is the three of them will stay at castle and run the company or nation together :(

I was about 13 or 14 when I played this game couple of years ago, best ps1 game I've played 'cept for ffvii and viii, but those games aren't really comparable tbh. :)

Read a walkthrough/FAQ. I honestly couldn't tell you how to get all 108 in a TH-cam comment. I'm actually playing through the game again on my Playstation trying to get all 108. I even loaded up my Suikoden I game file so I could get Tir McDohl, even though he's not one of the stars of destiny, I want to get everything!

do you already choose the answer, when Nanami about attacked by arrow at half a second (very fast), look at my video about Suikoden 2 - Nanami's death, if you're successful, it will look like that Riou with position that want about to attack and not only standing there.
@PSZ1231 yes ... you should done all 108 star before entering Rockaxe ( and the seal of the Hero rune can be broken , means you gain a new spell on the Hero Forgiver Sigh ) save your game before Nanami get shot by the arrow , simply by marching the buttom , to double comfirm you get it right ( Dr Huan will speak to Shu at the castle ) i play suikoden 2 again with the psp LOL ~
This is one of the best RPGs of all time. Absolutely phenomenal.
