    This is great video! Just a small tip: With the iPad, you can actually install fonts with the Fontinator app and they appear in all your other apps, without having to do it several times. And I believe Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo do offer the possibility of customizing keyboard shortcuts. Although they have the same issue as Illustrator of not being able to manipulate the layout, so I think the point still stands that the desktop versions are more efficient

      I think if you use more than two apps, it's not easy to remember the font installation process for those apps especially if you don't install fonts that often. lol. I always have to search Google on how to install fonts on the iPad because I forget.

      @@teohontech7141 but wouldn’t you basically have to use Fontbook to install fonts on Mac? I always have to open the app because font installation often glitches out.

      @@briannhinton On Mac, you just use the Fontbook. There's only one workflow for installing fonts. On iPad, the number of workflows for installing fonts depends on the number of apps that need the font

    I think one of the main reasons why iPad apps are underpowered compared to desktop ones is that historically Apple has put much lower amounts of RAM compared to desktop systems, so the tablet apps have been downscaled to work with that RAM. And even if the pro now is on par in terms of RAM the base iPad which is the one that sells the most, stil has 3GB RAM and developers target the entire iPad market... Problem is that at this point software companies will not bother to invest in improving their iPad app significantly even if RAM increases significally (which I doubt for the base iPad)

      It comes down to whether you need to draw with the Apple Pencil. If yes, the iPad is good. For things you can't do with the iPad, you can go back to the laptop.

    Hi great video I got my first ipad 3 years ago after watching your video. 32gb isn’t enough I didn’t know the system takes 15gb. So I want to get a new ipad with more storage, my question is, can I install procreate on my new iPad without purchasing it again ? I’m gonna use the same AppleID, and will all the files, including the recording video of my drawing on procreate be transferred automatically when I move to the new iPad? Like when I open procreate on the new iPad everything will look exactly like on my old ipad with the files brush etc?

      Before you upgrade, turn on iCloud backup. This will backup the apps and the files within, settings, icon layout on your home screen, notes, bookmarks, everything. On the new iPad, choose to restore from that backup and everything will be restored identically.

      For Windows, Huawei D 16 (2022) is really good -- I'm using that. Pricing is budget to mid-range, but inside it's using a desktop class CPU so it's really powerful. www.parkablogs.com/content/designer-review-huawei-matebook-d-16-2022
      For Mac, M1 Macbook Air (2020) is still a good one even three years later and the pricing is really good now since it's out for a while. It can edit 4K video, and if you edit 4K video this is the one to get.

    Completely missed that the iPad doesn't have a normal file system, it has a cheesy misunderstanding. This adds to the problem.
    But that is not the main thing, or rather it is not the only thing.
    If you're going to start a professional career as a designer - forget the ipad or any other tablet. The video has a very bland conclusion that "desktop is better but you can do it on an ipad too". I've been a designer for 20+ years and I disagree. "You can" design on a tablet about as effectively as you can hammer nails with a spoon. You can. But don't, get a hammer.
    An 11-12" screen is not enough. Yes, we've worked on screens 20" and smaller but that was over 15 years ago. When I bought my first 27" and worked for an hour I knew I would never buy a smaller screen again. Now I won't buy a screen smaller than 32" (actually my current monitor is 38").
    On an ipad you lose flexibility and versatility. You can have a small slice of what you can on descktop. I want to take files from my camera (raw) tweak them in lightroom and work further in photoshop - no problem on pc and forget it on ipad. Working with video? Terribly uncomfortable on the ipad. Do you want to work fast and by industry standards? I hate that, but forget affinity - the industry uses PS and Illustrator. They'll send you files in psd and eps/ai, and/or ask for the result of your work in those formats. You'll be putting together layouts from stock purchased ai/eps, all lessons will be under photoshop and illustrator etc. Yes, I really want the adobe monopoly to collapse, but the reality right now is that they are a monopoly and you will work with adobe soft or you cant grow, you miss clients etc.
    Tablets are for content consumption. If you create content, buy a desktop.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah, if you have to send files to and from with colleagues it's going to be so unproductive due to the file system. But if you're just working on personal stuff, it doesn't really matter much unless you need to export and import files to various apps.

    • @teohontech7141
      @teohontech7141  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And there are people out there who really don't mind hammering a nail with a spoon just because they can, and because the spoon is cheaper. My inspiration for making this video is from them.

    • @thenightninja13
      @thenightninja13 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have a desktop, but I refuse to go back to adobe personally. If that ends with me losing a few jobs, then so be it. Not giving that company another cent. The only way to collapse the monopoly is to stop buying it. There are other file formats that can become universal for workflows. Maybe because I have a freelance perspective on this, I think differently. Affinity does work with eps files. I will admit I miss Lightroom, but I can work around that and still accomplish my goals.
