I've had these speakers for roughly a year (in black) and they absolutely rock dude! I did alot of research before I bought them and like to think they are in the top end of computer speakers you can buy. Super nice strong punchy base. You can even set them up to the tv and use them for watching movies, nooo problem. The quality is insane paired with a high end pc audio card, I use the highest end ASUS XONAR built for 2 speaker configurations like these. Also wanted to point out that the S8 sub that goes with these is absolutey killer but to be honest isn't really needed unless you are using these for a tv setup for movies. These speakers already have so much sharp base that the sub definitely isn't needed.
This channel is honestly so cool. I've been subbed for as long as I can remember, and to be honest, I don't buy most of the products you unbox simply because I don't have the money to buy all this cool stuff, but I love seeing all this stuff because you not unbox cool (therapy lol) stuff and I'm always willing to swing by and drop a like, and the occasional comment. Nice video Lew and keep doing your thing! :)
Was just looking at reviews for this set of speakers and I came across an old video of yours! I've only known your channel for the past few years since the days of the dope LED review room. Humble beginnings! Peace and Love from Los Angeles.
haha so did I, and they r great :) do u kno anything about the a2+? like how they compare sound-wise? I am considering getting them for my bedroom setup
I have the A2+ which is just a smaller version of this with a front port and they sound INCREDIBLE. The A5's are kind of big for a multi media computer audio setup, in my opinion, but the A2+'s are the perfect size and still have incredible bass. Like any audiophile grade speakers, they take a long time to break in if you don't burn them in, but when they are broken in (over time or burned in), they have an amazing clean sound and soundstage with bass that still thumps incredibly hard for such small speakers. Super tight bass that you can feel all the way down in your feet/floor at higher volume. Audioengine are some of the best speakers for the money. The built in DAC is also great and there's a sub out that you can add a sub to if you really want extended low end, but I don't think it's needed given how full they already are. The bass doesn't extend nearly as deep as a sub can, though. Still pounds pretty hard for a mini bookshelf style speaker.
Glad I didn't fell for all those raving reviews of these and went for the Mackie MR's instead. I luckily could test them side by side in a store nearby. If you really want white, you can always paint over your black ones, except of course the cones.
Are they better for music than for example Yahama HS7? Which would you recommend. A5+ cost 400 euros in my country and 2x Yahamas HS7 cost the same. I want them to listen to music basically combined with a Sound Blaster Z (and maybe a better sound card in the future)
i have this same setup problem and i am slowly working on fixing it, i hope that you can give me some tips in the later videos regarding your up and coming setup.
i suggest you to use front ported speaker to mix music. with back ported speakers if you don't have a sound-treated room sound will reflect on walls causing reverbs and disequalisation.
Please. i want a serious answer. Is audio engine a5 better that Harman Cardon Soundsticks III? Is it louder-crisper-better bass? Are the analog speakers worth a chance?
ya the audio engines are much better, wayyyyy louder, more clear and crisp, and sound more real because of the 5 inch woofers, but the harmans have a bit more bass because of the sub but just buy a real sub to go with them, pretty much any cheap sub is better than the harman sub
Audioengine did a fantastic job packaging these speakers. I would think that in today's market, a company that would package an item that nicely probably make a very good speaker.
Do these have a R/L output so I can plug them into my Scarlett 2i2 USB interface? or do they only have 1 output? Also if they do have R/L are they the normal quarter inch?
Speaker Wire? How old are these speakers. Most studio monitored have built in amps on both and all you need is a power chord and XLR,RCA,or 1/4 in inputs. I like the white finish though!
So.... can I adjust the bass? (The only thing that is not obvious for me, didn't find a thing about it on the official webpage, and he didn't mention it)
can these be used to play guitar through from a computer guitar program? i was hoping you would talk about how these can be used in various applications.
Hey guys. I am among the Adam Audio T5V, KRK Rokit 6 G3, Yamaha HS5 and these A5+ . They are all around the same price. I have a Creative sound blaster Z and want to listen to music on PC through spotify. Which would you get?
Hey Lew! How would you compare these to a 2.1 system such as Logitech Z623, especially due to the lack of a subwoofer? I'm looking for something with a good bass, that I can keep for a long time for music listening / game playing / movie watching purposes. Any suggestions?? Also, when is your mix tape dropping? *FIRE*
sadly those speakers don't have xlr-connectors for using it with an audio interface. would be convinient for music production. But they look great and i'm sure they sound good as well
Actual unboxing starts at 1:13 Not going to lie, I'm getting quite sick of all the ads in the videos. I mean i understand that's how content gets created, but goodness...
I am looking for speakers to be used primarily in playing music in a small room/apartment. I was told soundbars are good but I see those being used mainly with TVs. Some said towers are good but that seems super pricey and more like a permanent music solution that cannot be moved around as easily (sort of like for a home theater.) I want something semi-portable, high quality sound for music, and under 200-250. What "genre" of speakers am i looking for? Computer speakers? "bookshelf" speakers? advice appreciated.
+Faiz Saulat ^^^ Zreviews covers a great soundbar alternative. Soundbars are all the rage right now. But for the life of me i cannot understand why because they just arent good.
and you are looking for active speakers, because you don't have an amplifier or DAC. If you wanna invest in an upgrade, such as when I want to upgrade my JBLs, I would get a Fiio E10k because it has a 3.5mm Line out that doesn't use the amplifier, so you are not amping the amp in the JBL. this also leaves you with a single volume control and a headphone out so you can use it for gaming because a pair of speakers is not enough to hear behind you.
These are really amazing! Had mine for a couple years now going strong! Only thing is if you use the remote that comes with , after a while the buttons start to kinda crack and fall apart...wish your review would have included sub! Been looking at getting one of those to match
Can I sign up for quarterly even though I'm in the UK will I still receive the mysterious box?! Edit: Just found out you can but its $38 for shipping meaning it will cost me £58 instead of £33. Sorry Lewis its just too much for shipping almost double the price!
I understand you are into music production, but I don't understand the purchase of these speakers when you could have bought a perfectly good set of studio monitors (at around the same price) that have a totally flat output that will improve the quality of your mixes. I have seen reviews on these speakers and they offer a "studio-monitor like" experience but that isn't the same. I see the packaging, that is very nice, and the color, also very nice but if you are interested in hearing music the way it was "meant" to be heard, you would buy monitors. Just wondering if these are just the "new thing" or are they that good?
Hey Lou, could you do an unboxing on the YAMAHA NS-10 Speakers please? I am planning on buying these for my home studio and I like your unboxing beter than anybody's else's. THANX! :)
I'd pay a little bit more for an entry level separate amp and speaker set-up. More flexible for adding other sources with various inputs. Integrating amp and speaker in one box is never a good idea......but I understand he wants a minimal set-up.
+MSV-one Studios have several sets of powered and unpowered monitors though, so they have a good selection. Plus you don't want to be changing monitors you are mixing with every week or you'll never get used to the sound of any. For a consumer listening you want to be able to change your setup easily.
i think they are overly expensive. for the same price and less you can get some monitors like jbl 305 or tannoy 502 or krk g3 which are biamped and have separate power supply each
Wtf happened to your awesome style of unboxings Lew? I noticed you dont try anymore and your videos are plain. I been subbed to you since the beginning and the only reason I love your videos is your unique way of unboxing stuff. I guess that now you have a nice subscriber count, you dont care as much since ppl will watch your vidoes regardless. Does anyone else miss those or is it just me? Oh well...time to move on. Thanks for a good ride.
Hey you should do an unboxing on the Braven BRV-1 because there have been so many good reviews and ratings on it and it is cost friendly for many people
Agustin Camacho Yes! I have these with the pre-amp for my Audio Technica lp-120 turned on, straight to the A5+'s and sound great. Saving for the Audioengine D1 24 Bit DAC to boost the sound even better. Minimal wires, wicked sound! Oh and I tried my cell phone straight to speaker, and it played all my music also. Loving my purchase.
+Aminoff The Pimp Works with the headphone jack/wire Audioengine provides. The USB cord also provided, plugs at the back of the speakers to the phone /tablet, but only charges your device. That's all the USB does, but at least the battery will never run out of juice at least. I have my tablet with the wires hooked up and play spotify for now. Looks clean and you can mix up the music.
Loving these new speakers!
we need to get you a woah vocabulary with synonyms of woah and wow
what turn table do you have
You always get some new stuff you are so lucky!
what's the music in the background?
I like your voice better coming from your new shures :)
Woah bro. You've come a long way.
I've had these speakers for roughly a year (in black) and they absolutely rock dude! Thanks for this insight dude

Received mine today..Beautiful sound . Well worth the $$$
How's the bass? I am wondering about buying it but I am really picky when it comes to bass ahaha
@@crownkentroz7379 The bass is alright. Not very heavy.
I've been thinking about getting these speakers now for about a month, and then Lew makes an unboxing of them. How convenient :)
Was just looking at reviews for this set of speakers and I came across an old video of yours! I've only known your channel for the past few years since the days of the dope LED review room. Humble beginnings! Peace and Love from Los Angeles.
I had these speakers for almost 2 years now and bought the dac from audio engine and i love them so much
haha so did I, and they r great :) do u kno anything about the a2+? like how they compare sound-wise? I am considering getting them for my bedroom setup
mmah1515 yea they sound excellent to but it not as great a5+ since the have smaller driver but they still pack a punch too honestly
i bought this knife because of you and its not the best for stabbing but is much cooler to show off than any other knife I've used
Can't wait to hear these bad boys!
Hi
I've had these for over a year and they are fantastic speakers for the money
I have the A2+ which is just a smaller version of this with a front port and they sound INCREDIBLE. The A5's are kind of big for a multi media computer audio setup, in my opinion, but the A2+'s are the perfect size and still have incredible bass. I saw that knife on your channel last year and searched all over for it. It's a great little knife!
You should pair them with the D1 DAC, I own it and am 100% satisfied. You'll be surprised on how big the difference is.
The knife collection and the setup videos are something that i would like to see
Glad I didn't fell for all those raving reviews of these and went for the Mackie MR's instead. I luckily could test them side by side in a store nearby. If you really want white, you can always paint over your black ones, except of course the cones.
just wondering if you can hook up a non-Audioengine brand active subwoofer from that RCA output jack :)
Looking to hook these up to my turntable. Do these provide plenty of "punch" on their own or will I need a separate subwoofer?
Are they better for music than for example Yahama HS7? Which would you recommend. A5+ cost 400 euros in my country and 2x Yahamas HS7 cost the same. I want them to listen to music basically combined with a Sound Blaster Z (and maybe a better sound card in the future)
I seriously can't wait to find out how these things sound, nice unboxing, Lew.
so excited about your new set up! please room tour soon! :D
i have this same setup problem and i am slowly working on fixing it, i hope that you can give me some tips in the later videos regarding your up and coming setup.
Yamaha has some new "whities" studio monitors released at NAMM Pioneer also has some whities as well. Are these in stock at LM or Axe? Pricing?
i suggest you to use front ported speaker to mix music. with back ported speakers if you don't have a sound-treated room sound will reflect on walls causing reverbs and disequalisation.

I have the soundsticks and A5+. A5+ sound way nice but you pay for it. They're also huge so I dont even use them on my crowded desk.
Subcribed early to quarterly co and the longer it takes the more I get hyped!!!
Audioengine did a fantastic job packaging these speakers. I would think that in today's market,
a company that would package an item that nicely probably make a very good speaker.
Excellent speakers.I have had mine for 2 yrs.I also use a DAC with them.
Do these have a R/L output so I can plug them into my Scarlett 2i2 USB interface? or do they only have 1 output? Also if they do have R/L are they the normal quarter inch?
Just signed up for quarterly Lew can't wait!
:)
Speaker Wire? How old are these speakers. Most studio monitored have built in amps on both and all you need is a power chord and XLR,RCA,or 1/4 in inputs. I like the white finish though!
A great idea was to the have the speakers cable color coded. Enjoy them! Looking forward for a new office tour!
The RCA outputs on the left speaker that has the amp for connecting "something else" as you say, are most commonly used to connect a sub-woofer.
it's a good thing the dude didn't say something like "for connecting some shoot" ))
I preferred this lew, not the new, crazy lew :(
Any change your sound test of the Audioengine a5+ speakers is coming soon? :)
So.... can I adjust the bass?
(The only thing that is not obvious for me, didn't find a thing about it on the official webpage, and he didn't mention it)
They look pretty decent and as I can see by the reviews, they also get all the praise!
I got them too, had them for a while now, but they still rock!
Are these speakers tuned flat like studio monitors? Meaning do they enhance any frequency range?
can these be used to play guitar through from a computer guitar program? i was hoping you would talk about how these can be used in various applications.
really....thats why i asked because i havent been able to find a review that talks about it...
Lew, thanks so much for this video because when I got the box I had no idea how to open it
Hey guys. I am among the Adam Audio T5V, KRK Rokit 6 G3, Yamaha HS5 and these A5+ . They are all around the same price. I have a Creative sound blaster Z and want to listen to music on PC through spotify. Which would you get?
KNIFE COLLECTION, GO!
gonna collectme all
The thing that I'm interested in, if you use these for mixing, why not go for a setup using balanced audio?
where is the sound video for these speakers please? i looked around on your videos i saw nothing!Thank you
The knife link to Amazon links to toothbrushes. Can you please provide brand and model? Much appreciated. It’s a badass knife!
Hey Lew! How would you compare these to a 2.1 system such as Logitech Z623, especially due to the lack of a subwoofer?
I'm looking for something with a good bass, that I can keep for a long time for music listening / game playing / movie watching purposes. Any suggestions??

If you want good bass then you kinda need a subwoofer
sadly those speakers don't have xlr-connectors for using it with an audio interface. would be convinient for music production.
But they look great and i'm sure they sound good as well
Actual unboxing starts at 1:13
Not going to lie, I'm getting quite sick of all the ads in the videos. I mean i understand that's how content gets created, but goodness...
this a real good knife and nice speakers bro
I am looking for speakers to be used primarily in playing music in a small room/apartment. I was told soundbars are good but I see those being used mainly with TVs. +Faiz Saulat zreviews
+Faiz Saulat ^^^ Zreviews covers a great soundbar alternative. Soundbars are all the rage right now. But for the life of me i cannot understand why because they just arent good.
if you are still troubled, Z Reviews :D
personal recommendation would be JBL LSR305. Better than these audio engines and cheaper. Size is similar.
and you are looking for active speakers, because you don't have an amplifier or DAC.
I like people who love to stay clean and want minimal pace to be acquired...Like you.....???!!!!!!!!!
You probably have answer this already however how is it compared to the KRK speakers, with one would you choose for maximum sound quality?
Have the regular A5s with a PSW10. Sounds great. Only thing I don't like is how the A5s pop every time they shut off. Scares me every time.
Finally I can afford them, 6 years later
These are really amazing! Had mine for a couple years now going strong! Only thing is if you use the remote that comes with , after a while the buttons start to kinda crack and fall apart...wish your review would have included sub! Been looking at getting one of those to match
I'm buying the Bamboo a5+ soon :) Really good looking and amazing quality speakers
Can any sub be used with these? Or only the audio engine ones?
any sub is fine
Great review. How do they compare to the iKey-Audio M-505V2?
I love my A5+. They are amazing. Using them for this vid!
Question did you consider Adam ARTist5 for your speakers?
love old Lewis
same, he actually was intelligent then... lol
That usb out put if you want to use the built in dac
Are you getting the audioengine subwoofer as well?
SETUP VIDEO PLEASE!!!!
you must try Q Acoustics speaker products..they sound really good..
Unbox Therapy Lewis Hilsenteger So what kind of items come in the quarterly service?
Just subscribed! Hopefully it's worth the $50 price tag! Can't wait to get it
Can I sign up for quarterly even though I'm in the UK will I still receive the mysterious box?!
Edit: Just found out you can but its $38 for shipping meaning it will cost me £58 instead of £33. Sorry Lewis its just too much for shipping almost double the price!
The RCA-output is for the subwoofer, e.g. the Audioengine S8.
hey man just 1 request if u could upload the other episode of this video ASAP...
THANKS
Those are some dope speakers
I just ordered these about an hour ago. How are they sounding??
I understand you are into music production, but I don't understand the purchase of these speakers when you could have bought a perfectly good set of studio monitors (at around the same price) that have a totally flat output that will improve the quality of your mixes. Just wondering if these are just the "new thing" or are they that good?
Ok, I'm watching this in March 2017- So, my question is "How did you get so manic sounding in only 3 short years? O_o ??
I think this guy is going to be big some day.
Hey Lou, could you do an unboxing on the YAMAHA NS-10 Speakers please? I am planning on buying these for my home studio and I like your unboxing beter than anybody's else's. THANX! :)
Doesn't MKBHD have the red and black version of the previous gen of these speakers?
No Audioengine does not make red and black speakers. The design of the speakers are very common.
I'd pay a little bit more for an entry level separate amp and speaker set-up. More flexible for adding other sources with various inputs. Integrating amp and speaker in one box is never a good idea......but I understand he wants a minimal set-up.

Fantastic! Keep it up bro. I'm so excited for that full setup video. (Y)
i think they are overly expensive. for the same price and less you can get some monitors like jbl 305 or tannoy 502 or krk g3 which are biamped and have separate power supply each
+George Smith i have pair of rokit monitors... pretty happy about it
Wtf happened to your awesome style of unboxings Lew? I noticed you dont try anymore and your videos are plain. Thanks for a good ride.
Ya, i know...i used like those cool style unboxings he had too. guess its not worth his time.
in my opinion, i like these videos more
I don't mind his new style or new videos. Still pretty funny and entertaining
I have a setup of Audio Engine A2 speakers, I love them.
Hey you should do an unboxing on the Braven BRV-1 because there have been so many good reviews and ratings on it and it is cost friendly for many people
So I take it these speakers aren't flat-EQ'd, for recording monitoring purposes?
Can someone recommend a good sound card for these? I got the Sound Blaster Z already, but i want better sound quality if possible
Maybe the Focusrite Scarlett? I have the 2i4. It's awesome! It's an external Sound card though.
Can you make a review on these new speakers because I would like to know how they sound.
Nice vid as always
Will this work with a turntable? Such as with an AudioTechnica at-lp60?
Agustin Camacho Yes! I have these with the pre-amp for my Audio Technica lp-120 turned on, straight to the A5+'s and sound great. Saving for the Audioengine D1 24 Bit DAC to boost the sound even better.
Minimal wires, wicked sound! Oh and I tried my cell phone straight to speaker, and it played all my music also. Loving my purchase.
+Johnny Five Awesome, how does it connect from your phone? Bluetooth, or aux cable?
+Aminoff The Pimp
Works with the headphone jack/wire Audioengine provides.
The USB cord also provided, plugs at the back of the speakers to the phone /tablet, but only charges your device. That's all the USB does, but at least the battery will never run out of juice at least.
I have my tablet with the wires hooked up and play spotify for now. Looks clean and you can mix up the music.
Johnny Five Alright thanks
I lately bought audio pro addon t8 and their are kinda powerful even though they are small desktop active speakers.
Xbox One, I subscribed and ive been a subscriber for this channel for over a year!!!
can't wait for your setup
I love your vids!
What sort of stuff could we expect in the quarterly subscription?
Nice listening to this review with my own A5+ :)
love audioengines. best built speakers for the price.
when is the next box getting shipped out?
do you recommend those or the bose companion 5
Audioengine A5+ vs. Kanto YUMI or YU5?
It would be great if they could battle head to head!
Still waiting on the sound test video
I'm somewhat surprised there is no toslink input, but I guess one could use a cheap DAC.
