Dude, even though Catra's a villain for the most part of the show, she's the most well-written, complex, and relatable character in it. She was my favorite from the beginning up until the end, and that never changed. I genuinely get upset when people say they don't like her because I don't think they realize everything she went through and had to endure that turned her into this ambitious villain. She's SUCH a tragic character.
The fact that she is literally the bad guy for the first four season and this four minutes are really the only moments in which she was actually a villain.

This is the kind of villain you find yourself rooting for. In her fight with Hordak I was really hoping she would win and was happy when she did. She honestly deserved that win. She was the one leading the Horde to victory, even tho what she did was evil, she worked hard and it was cathartic to see her finally get her way at least for a short while. That fight was inevitable and the outcome was already foreshadowned earlier, glad they did the natural thing of giving her the win instead of trying to subvert expectations

All in all, Catra never did evil things for the sake of being evil, most villains aren’t evil, but have very painful pasts and traumas that drove them to do bad things. In Catra’s sake, she’s never gotten appreciated and her one and only friend left her, making her desperate for validation (like with Shadow Weaver and Hordak) and closing herself off from others no matter how loyal they seemed (like Scorpia and Entrapta). She seemed to do destructive stuff to annoy Adora too, in other words, get her attention. She thought conquering the world can take the pain away and finally get the appreciation and happiness she’d never had. One thing that proves this is whenever one of the people she trusts betrays or hurts her, she hysterically convinces herself that she doesn’t need them, that she’s better than them. She’s one of the most relatable, realistic, interesting, complex, well-made, and well-developed characters I’ve ever come across.

But I am content with the way it went cause that made the pretty complex character bow on Catra just so much more well rounded. Like it was brilliant. She-ra is brilliant and I will rewatch this soon!
The best villains have broken back stories, or hint at broken back stories. Catra actions make sense when you consider it from the point of view that she was mentally compromised from all the crap she grew up with, believing Adora betrayed her, shadow weaver used her, every time she gets ahead, it comes down around her, or puts her in an even more stressful position. Had she stayed broken, she would have been the epitome of a tragic villian, but you only would have seen it when she was dealing with people related to her problems and past.

I am perfectly content with how the show turned out, but when I remember that in the original toyline and comics Catra was the main villain and not Hordak, because he and his minions were officially promoted as enemies of He-Man, I really think that Catra as the main villain of the entire show would have been amazing.
to be fair, she was the main villain... hordak and shadow weaver were just on the sidelines most of the time. catra was just not the villain people are used to, cause she's more than that. a villain/protagonist/love interest all at the same time.

Until then she was more like Darth Vader or the Sheriff of Nottingham, being the villain does most of the action, but not. Then came Season 5 and it took the surprising turn of having Horde Prime be more proactive than he usually was. Seasons 1 and 2 seemed to be Catra's journey to main villain, which is interesting to see. Season 5 would be her redemption arc and beginnings as a hero.
