Don’t think I can afford to join to the club, but you know some thing I think just watching your videos will make me very very happy. When you’re older and have very little money, TH-cam is a great way to make you feel so happy watching all of these wonderful, gardening channels, and so many beautiful gardens. Thanks so much for a great inspiring videos giving so much great information. The only trouble is I have a very small city lot so I don’t think I could have too many flowers in it but you’re making me want to try to squeeze a few more in.
This is wonderful advice at just the right time. I would have sown far too many seeds, and sown them too early if I hadn't watched this video now. I am a novice when it comes to seed sowing, so this advice has really helped. 30 seeds per tray gives me a much better idea of what I should be doing. I love your spacious propagation area.
This is SO good thank you. I'm in NZ and just beginning to sow my hardy annuals for the first time in autumn. This is the best and clearest information I've found.
Thank you for reducing my anxiety about fall sowing. It’s still brutally hot here in the American South, so time in the garden can be dangerous. Fortunately we don’t expect frost until November.
Fascinating insight into your forward planning programme, Georgie. I'm planning a small cutting garden just for myself, but your enthusiasm is going to make it so-o-o-o-o hard for me to resist autumn planting,😂
Wish we were in the same planting zone. I keep forgetting I can not follow every directive concerning the garden. Love the videos. You are a wonderful teacher.
Thankyou for this Georgie. I don't have much success in overwintering seedlings here in southern Scotland. I've tried numerous times but always find it better waiting until Spring, even with Sweet Peas. Last year it was so cold everything was totally frozen in my unheated greenhouse. We had minus 15 deg for a few nights. However, I love all the information you provide us with x
I bought seed from the garden center and had very very bad germination, bought new packets same, then I bought online, that was so good I now have trouble for space because I can't trow anything away 😂
We are US upper midwest zone 4. Oregano shouldn’t survive our -20 winters but it does in my garden. Could be that free draining sandy soil keeps it going. We are 102 today. 😬 and we are not used to this. Even the bees are in hiding today. Great video as always!
Hi Georgie, do you need to keep them well watered over the winter? Or just make sure the trays underneath are kept topped up? Will this not cause root rot? Thanks 😊
I don't think umbellifers mind rich soil - are you tray sowing and pricking out? they sometimes hate being moved. equally maybe too much or too little water? it's been an odd season with hot dry early and cold wet through July and august. better luck next year maybe x
Such a helpful video thank you so much! My first watch of your videos but I will subscribe and donate. I’m in Guernsey and will be tentatively flower farming next season and had just ordered the Higgledy Autumn Hardy Annuals! I’m sowing this week and it’s still around 18 degrees here at the moment so should I keep them outside till the temps drop? I’m not sure on this point and if moving them from outside to in or vice versa at this time when the temps can suddenly shift will have an adverse effect? Thank s again 💚
Thanks for this really helpful. I am toying with hedging my bets and trying to overwinter some seeds outside. I am in Suffolk and have free draining soil. I have heard somewhere else that I should sow these undercover now and plant out towards the end of September. I was thinking of Ammi Visnaga, Calendula, Orlaya - do you think will be ok x
I can vouch for the Borage! I put it on my long raised this year with tomato and Cucamelon plants and I am convinced that's why we've had a bumper crop of both. I'll have to take it out now, though as it's toxic to dogs and puppy comes home on Monday. Next year the borage will go in Dad's veg cage. 😊 I love how you refer to your plants as 'people'. 😂
@@theflowerfarmer I'm so excited! Also getting as much rest as I can as I'll probably be doing 3am potty breaks for a few weeks. 🤣 I just put a new photo up on Instagram from a video the breeder sent me, and he's sprouted! ☺️
Difficulty is I make my clips in real time according to what I’m really doing so my spring and early summer crop has long been either sold or chopped down and is on the compost heap - never mind - I hope you find more fun and informative elsewhere xxx

there's always room for one or two more flowers xxx
I do that too ❤
I LOVE that you refer to your plants as 'people' - love it! 🥰

Thankyou - we are a very gentle climate here x
Great advice as usual. Thanks for sharing. Really enjoy your clips:)🌻🌻

Thanks for such an informative clip. So very useful for me back in South Africa as I need to swop months around compared to your climate.
thanks Erwin x
I can't believe another year has passed us by
I know what you mean x
Love you presentation and content. I only have a small city garden but you have inspired me to start growi g and flower arranging thanks

Totally agree - not always a good idea to try and overwinter seedlings - sometimes better to wait till spring x

Thankyou - I dream of more freely draining soil x
Great video and advice. Im off to look at what sweetpeas to grow 😂
Go for it! x
Excellent measuring method!
Can you sow in your poly tunnel directly and over winter in situ?
Yes, absolutely x
“I’m a keen ballparker “. That’s some funny stuff there.
Glad you think so x
Could you please tell me how often to water over wintering hardy annuals in a unheated greenhouse?
rarely and always from underneath - lift the pot to see if it's really dry or just a dry surface x
Great info; thank you kindly! Question: is there a rule for what orientation to use when installing a greenhouse? Thanks for considering my question.
well, you could do north to south but I'm about to move mine and put them in part shade west to east x
@@theflowerfarmer Thank you kindly!

I water rarely through winter - just lift trays from time to time to check not too light and if so water from underneath x
Love your videos and advice, my umbellifers struggle, I’m no dig etc, could my soil/mulch be too rich?

yes keep outside till possible frost at night and even then you might just fling a bit of fleece over them until really proper winter sets in x
@@theflowerfarmer thnks so much! X
Would the wild flowers be good for the meadows!😊 12:38
I think this bee friendly mix would be better in cultivated ground x
Thank you Georgie great advice as usual. Do you direct seed Gyp. I have a lot of trouble with Gyp in seed trays.
Sometimes - depends on mood, time of year, space... x

I just wonder if i could fall sow when my winther temperatures drops down to -30C or worse. Larkspur and sweet peas is not possible to fall sow here
sounds way too cold for autumn sowing - hold the seeds back for spring x
Interrsting i assumed that Higgeldy saved their own seed - not bought from a wholesaler?
I think a bit of both - always ding dong fresh though which you don't always get from other seed suppliers x
Could someone please tell me what were the seeds, may major?? l couldn't find it anywhere, please help.
I think you mean ammi majus x
How long are seeds considered fresh and viable?
max a year x
should I succession plant these?
plant another succession in the spring x
...."1970's sport sock in good way..." lol. I MUST SEE what on earth this poor flower looks like! hahahaha
