    I just stop the track pick up the mic and scream 'Yo Ultra/Tomorrowland come with me on this one' and then press play on the next track.
    Just kidding.
    Fave effect is echo with small amount of high or low pass filter combined.

    Hold echo added with echo can get creative too, creating your own custom tale to any track. Or echo applied to a spin back on platter gets you into alot of track transitions. Great advice to new djs!

    I have a Pioneer DJM-909 and it has a Ducking Echo effect meaning the echo out effect automagically starts when I bring the fader down on the outgoing track. Can’t live without it. No dial turning!! Plus you can effect only certain frequencies. Meaning if you don’t want the low frequencies to echo out( cuz it usually sounds a bit muddy if you do) you can cut them out. Amazing mixer!

    I love using the Echo 1/2, Echo 1/4, Flange and Reverb. I use it mostly in house or deep house music. When a track is playing and is about to come to a long part of the track where there is no drum beats or kicks, I prepare the next songs part where it has just the beat or kick with the high and mid EQ slightly lower depending on the beat's loudness. I slowly bring it in, in a loop just before the start of the "no beats part" of the track that is playing, slowly increasing its volume. Then, I add Flange effects to the 1st song, then add Echo 1/2 to the drum beat track in the middle of the "no drum beat part", then change to Echo 1/4 before the the 1st song restore to its own beat and adding Reverb effects. Just before the beats on the 1st aong comes back, quickly turn down volume fader of track 2 while still pressing Echo 1/4, release Echo 1/4 on track 2, release flange effect of track 1, then release reverb effect of track 1. It's like a soft EDM effect on the music and it will keep everybody dancing, most especially when you come across tracks with long no beats part. Some people gets bored easily or finds it hard to dance without the beats.
    I hope this made sense. I am not a professional DJ. I only use a DDJ-400 and play just for close relatives and friends.
    I enjoy your contents...keep it up!
    Cheers and more power to your channel!👍

    Dude I use this a ton for bar gigs when jumping around music! It works perfectly no matter what you’re gonna jump to/from

  • @vladdy_music
    @vladdy_music 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I am using DDJ-400 with Recordbox:
    There are some ways to make echo effect with such a setup: 1) The easiest way is to select "Echo" for the FX, turn the FX knob to the 9 o'clock position (or higher), and cut the volume of the track you applied echo to.
    2) Go to Pad FX settings and select "Echo'' , apply to one of your pad buttons. It works with literally just pushing that one button at the moment you want to cut the track (do not forget to hit play on track 2 and pause the track 1 before turning Echo off)
    If you have intros/outros, you could also beatmatch, but it is much much harder to make smooth transitions that way..
    Bonus: You could also use backspin or vinyl brake to add more variety in your sets...

    • @jasonwaldinger2190
      @jasonwaldinger2190 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you set the "Echo" for the FX at 1 beat or less/more?

    I mostly use the "Spiral" effect on the last beat. Just before the break. From there on you have to time to other track to play. No FX pack needed and free. Did it once from a house track to a happy hardcore track (much faster). People knew the incoming track and got a nice reaction from the crowd.

  • @octavianr526

    Amazing crystal clear teaching! I learnt much of your lessons just by trial and error, before Djs started to share knowledge. Echo out is a simple and trustful way of transition between genres or tracks with different BPM! I just add it to skills with reluctance, because I believed is a dummy way out! :)) But your lesson confirmed it is a good thing! Note: On Traktor S4, autoloop doesn't give that similar round-sound of echo out, it is just looping brutally. My preferred effects on EDM are Chopping - good for transition between the same BPM-, Flanger and Echo! Thank you, Phil, you are awesome, funny, the video shows exactly what are you speaking about, big Hug!

  • @djnandoo702
    @djnandoo702 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know if I fully agree with just using "echo out on 1/2". If I want to go from 128 or around it I use it with a "drop" fx so a hard bass fade out and drop something super popular depending on my crowd. As a professional mobile DJ for 8 years different tracks have different transitions. There are also dj tools (songs) that have transitions from a high bpm to a low bpm that help out a lot

    How come the track you transitioned out of with the clean echo out didn't keep playing audibly (since it was still playing if there is more time left) when you brought in the next song by Eve ? you didn't pull the fader/volume down on deck 1 and you couldn't hear that song anymore though even with crossfader in middle to hear both decks...

  • @TheLingWhisperer
    @TheLingWhisperer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Echo fx in software like Serato or Rekordbox is beatmatched, which means if you haven't properly analyzed your tracks and aligned the beatgrid your echo fx is going to be off-beat in your mix.
    As for the 'echo out' effect, you can accomplish the same thing in other software with a simple echo combined with use of the high pass filter. If your filter is an all-kill filter it accomplishes the same thing if you turn up the filter while you turn up the echo.

    I love tremolo. Its not quite the same as quickly varying the volume between low or off/mute and high, bevause then i would just use the volume slider...i love tremolo, ill often use it in blending parts of the song im going to play with what im playing. Its also great during long held notes with vocals or just synth. Tremolo is more an oscillating effect using colume vs higher and lower levels

  • @mattydatboi

    Pan delay gives a nice transition effect...put the knob at about 1 to 2 o' clock and when you are about to transition, turn on the effect and fade out.

    Echo Out has a tempo. Reverb doesn't. Therefore Reverb is the way superior effect to transition song with varying bpm range.

    I love the pan effect on rekordbox. At 1/16 time it can really emphasize a small portion of the song

  • @freedomismine4696
    @freedomismine4696 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The loop is good ..just best pick loop ...put master tempo on enter the slow track already with short loop but must be compatible and put the master tempo bpm match ...
    Its tricky ...but with the right tracks and the right loops ... it can be done nicely ...
    Just add some effects and cut down the loop to going down to the original slow track pitch lock .
    shorter put some sample for the chop off ...like sound effect ..zap .wind . Jet anything .. :)

  • @angelov9976

  • @jimlloyd1854

    Difficult to pick just one effect... Beat Grid, Echo, Reverb, Flanger... I use about half of the default VirtualDJ effects, depending on the song(s). And, then there is the Sampler... A good Bass Drop can help you transition.

  • @geraldmcclaren

    I loved the tutorials on drop mixing using the echo and the loop. I had noticed that when you applied the echo and hit the play button , the volume is still on with the up fader, the previous song is still playing although the echo was applied. Shouldn't the up fader be brought down immediately?

  • @freedomismine4696
