I swear, I watch this video every few months and every single time I do I come out of it with a few things I didn't really take into the gym with me. The biggest eye opener for me was in your shoulder press video where you said don't EVER expect to shoulder to press heavy if you can't heavy front squat. That one tip.... changed my entire life man.

Here I was thinking this was going to be a short instructional clip, god damn have to rebuild my entire front squat warm up routine! This video came just in time for my lower body workout. Your advice on keeping the chin down really made a difference.
I had watched many tutorials on the front squat but they all said to keep the chin up. Doing it your way helped me keep my upper back straight and made my front squat more stable.
Thanks Brian! Keep up the good content, it's much appreciated.

Have you given thought to putting up some sound damping panels in the new section of the gym? I feel like the high amount of echo would make group workouts exceedingly loud and also makes trouble for recording video, coming from someone whose wrestling room used to get brain-bustingly loud.
Something like more flags or other soft materials on some of the walls would do the trick without shelling out a ridiculous amount for actual sound panels.

I suppose I should reintegrate the front squat, I havent done it since I got a rack.
It WAS my go-to squat for a long time because my solution was to load the bar up on the corner of the deck rail and squat in the driveway! It was always an issue though as I have terrible wrist mobility.

The SSB front squat makes no sense to me. With the front squat the weight is infront of your shoulder/spine (i.e. midline) and with the back squat the weight is behind your midline
With an SSB bar your get the weight almost directly above your midline but a bit more infront of it because of how the bar sits.
If you look at 3:22 when you stand up the sleeves (i.e. where the weight sits) are behind your midline. You literally say a few seconds later that you don't even need your hands as the bar is pushing itself back behind you which is keeping it balanced
So *if the weight is resting behind me then how is that like a front squat? Haven't you just made a more complicated back squat here? Wouldn't a standard SSB squat mimick the front squat better?* (although it definitely can't replace it)
I'm definitely not trying to be a smart ass. This is a real genuine question. I mean maybe I'm missing something which makes this a stupid question or something idk

Remember, these were orders of ways to do a front squat if you cannot get into the regular position. He is trying to reduce the amount of excuses for people to not do front squat. The SSB is to help people who say the weight falls off their shoulders. The SSB removes this problem because its fighting to get behind you.

Great video! Hope you have a great time at nationals regardless of whether or not you compete. I’m actually wondering if you could touch upon good weight ratios between your four main lifts (like squatting double your overhead press or the like) that indicate a good balance in a future video? Maybe also something on how much you should be able to lift in a variation relative to the main lift so that you’re strong in all areas of the lift and not overcompensating with certain muscle groups? Love your channel and your content and thank you for all you’ve done for my lifting!

Awesome video! Just help me with this, should the bar rest on your clavicles? I can front squat 110kg for reps, but after the unrack I fell a lot of pain on my clavicle and, If I cant stand the pain, I have to stop the exercise. This has been a pain in the ass, and its not letting me progress on the front squat. Where exactly should the bar be? Should It hit your clavicle? Should It hurt at all? I already tried numerous variations of hand and bar placement, and the only position that dont cause me pain is when the bar is in front of my clavicle, but It feels unstable. I haven't found much information online adressing specifically the bar position in relation to the clavicle. Anyway, any tips? Thanks!
