Notes: 1. I forgot to mention that when using the GPS/NAV pathing, remember to set the altitude properly before setting the GPS point. Otherwise it defaults to 0, resulting in your missile crashing into the ground at the first point you set. Big thanks to those who pointed it out. 2. In addition to being a decoy and maybe tricking the enemy into acting on bad info, I’ve read that the ADM-160 MALD has been used IRL to fly alongside cruise missiles, pretending to be a plane or drone to trick missile defense systems into thinking it’s not a missile, allowing the cruise missiles its flying with to reach the target. I haven’t tested it but it’s possible that the in-game missile warning radars could be tricked in a similar way. 3. You can equip up to 6 decoys. 4. Decoys can also be very useful for triangulation, meaning that they can help your TSD gain more accurate information on the current location of targets by giving you another perspective of the area. 5. Already fired decoys will have a * next to their name.
In regards to the second point, it sounds like that would have been used to specifically have the signature of what the opponent would regard as being a friendly asset. Perhaps even down to appropriated IFF code signals. When the game is given some specific enemy plane types, this 'signature shrouding' ability will really come into its own.
As someone who has stopped playing VR, can't afford a gaming PC capable of running VR games and who has very little free time for gaming in general, I love these tutorial videos! Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford a proper set up and I'll have all this banked knowledge! Or... I'll forget it all in 25 minutes and will return to this video at a later date 😅
Great tutorial! The decoy is kind of cool, but it's pretty easy too shoot down via HOJ when it jams the SAM radars, so it only gives you a short window to take them out. Also wish it was easier to change jamming targets, going cold and doing a full reset is kind of annoying. Don't know what the use is for the fake signature yet, except maybe to divert attention in multiplayer? One thing you didn't say in the video is to increase the altitude of the nav point and also the GPS points, at least according to the manual . Otherwise I expect the decoy to fly at ground level, but have not tested it yet.
Yeah, true. It’s kind of a sitting duck out there in the open. In addition to being a decoy and maybe tricking the enemy into acting on bad info, I’ve read that the ADM-160 MALD has been used in Ukraine to fly with cruise missiles and trick missile defense systems into thinking it’s not a missile, allowing the cruise missile to reach its target. I haven’t tested it but it’s possible that the in-game missile warning radars could be tricked in a similar way.
The decoy catching a missile is better than you catching a missile - MALDs are definitely used for self protection jamming because then HOJ lock won't be onto your own craft but the decoy running near you giving you the jam coverage towards primary threat. Decoy the ADM160/MALD into an EF24G, fly along it and then use it to jam an enemy plane and they'll go hunt it down instead of you.
Is there any real strategic value in having/using decoys? I feel like anything it can do is not worth sacrificing the missile it replaces, am I missing something?
There are specific use-cases for sure. The EF-24 is fast but isn’t really designed to be deep in the action, especially since it can’t carry a lot of missiles. It’s best used for support, so an argument could be made that decoys are more useful than missiles. Since the decoys can be fully controlled after launch, my opinion is that they’re underrated and really over powered. One example is that you can set a GPS point for it to orbit and auto-noise jam nearby radars. See a MAD-4 in the distance but you can’t get close? Path a decoy to it and keep it jammed so you or others can take it out. Is an enemy guarding a target and you’re having trouble getting past him? Path a decoy around it and set it to look like a fa-26 or something to distract them while you attack the target. There are definitely a lot of strategic uses for them, only limited by the pilots creativity.
It probably comes more into its own if used in some multiplayer PVP scenarios. Especially if the F-45 can use it. Making the opposing team think they have a big, lumbering transport as easy prey will do wonders for more impulsive pilots. They can be diverted or even be fooled into being baited into a trap with stealth platforms waiting to down them. Could be especially useful for diverting the enemy into vectoring its air patrols in a different direciton from where you want to ingress/egress to/from. Alas, I've not attempted multiplayer sessions, myself. There's an intimidation factor to it if it's being shown everyone's in a mission (will I be stepping into something and make everyone WTF at me?). The few which are logged as in 'briefing' phase, warn me they require unknown files to be downloaded from the workshop and I've no idea if I'd ever use whtever-it-is for anything else.

@@darkstar1592 That WOULD be interesting... It's amusing how, even though DCS is infinitely more complex, the introduction of this has effectively made 'VTOL VR' the more realistic product, scenario-wise! If VV allowed for HOTAS, it would pretty much be ideal, IMO.
How to set autopilot Speed? In previous models u just turn the button and adjust till your desired speed. In the EF-24G u can only press a button for current speed. thx

Pretty complex piece of kit there. Thanks for the well-made and concise tutorials!
This is the update where VTOL went from being checkers to Chess and I love it.
Ace Combat is playing chutes and ladders

Friends directed me here in preparation for when my VR headset arrives, this is easy to understand and listen to. Much appreciated
Glad it’s helpful. Happy flying!

I didn't realize it'd orbit gps points, that's super nice I'm gonna use it more
Thanks man this is super helpful, keep the good stuff up!
great video! always so educational, thanks!
I haven’t tested it but In the google doc it mentions to make sure you set proper height you want on the Nav or GPS or else it defaults to 0ASL
Great job for getting what we need out without any of the bullshit. GREAT VID bro.
Thanks man. That’s the goal.

at this point you can jam and identify your EF-24G to another jet now decoy missiles crazy jet.
Wondering what Auto mode does with noise jamming? would be cool if it selects and automatically jams the nearest ground radar or air radars. thanks
pretty sure that's exactly what it does
According to the manual, "MALD selects based off RWR pings". This seems to suggest it jams whatever pings it
@@LeeAndersonMusic dope!
Great video thanks! One more question, does the gps coordinate altitude matter? What happens if you stick to default (0 ft)
It matters. If you keep it at 0, it’ll crash into the ground at the coordinates you set.
How do you use the AGM's in the EF-24G? Im having trouble since you use them differently than the AGM's in the AH-94.
Which AGM’s specifically?

You have to press the speed number its set at to change the speed i think
Thanks big man

How long do they stay airborne?
Hmm never heard it as soy instead of SOI
what about the frequency azimuth screen
I talk about it in this video starting at 4:44: th-cam.com/video/fHtbvf-gOlA/w-d-xo.html
Roughly how long can the missile last in the air ?
About 8 mins I think.
Depends on the course and deployment altitude, but they fly around for a long-ass time
How long does the missile last for until it runs out of fuel? Also can you use it while it’s stored and not launched?
