    HATAMOTO means Flag Bearer or Guardian of The banner, Highest title for someone who serving in Japanese feudal System. If Toranaga Go to war And Gain Victory, Hatamoto Would get Large portion of The land that was conquered, but if Toranaga Lost, he must commited seppuku, and his Hatamoto are expeted to do the same

    Hello! Glad you two are enjoying the show. But I think maybe you are missing how clever Toranaga is. The whole episode was basically setup to show how smart Toronaga is (expanding from the previous episode's assassin attempt). Yabushige wrote the will because he knew Toranaga would know of his betrayal, the escape from Osaka, resigning to cripple the council, and to pretend not knowing how to dive to tire out Anjin for the race to the shore.
    Also Hatamoto is a title, not a name given to Blackthorne. Think of it as a high rank, close to Samurai.

    Hatamoto = bannerman. e.g. A high-level vassal.

    The swimming scene is so different in the book. A fine sunny day. And everyone is Naked. EVERYONE.

    The Boy is the dead Emperor's son.

    • @MrFloppyHare
      @MrFloppyHare 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      No, he's the dead Taiko's son.
      A Taiko was basically a Shogun. But he couldn't be a Shogun because he didn't come from a noble family.
      Above, or, aside from the Shogun, who were the Samurai rulers during those times, the imperial family still existed. However, the Emperor only had a ceremonial function, basically. That's why the "Meiji Restoration", after the shogunate that was founded by Tokugawa (Toranaga), is called that: "Meiji" for the name of the Emperor and "restoration" because it was the restoration of the rule of the Emperors.

      @@MrFloppyHare I am talking about the young, slim-looking guy who in a kimono, the Emperor died, and His son is too young to deal with ambitious Samurai Lords, that is why before His death He appointed a regent to rule until He is of age. At this time, the Emperor had become a puppet of the Samurai lords. Kyoto was the original capital and home of the Emperors. Tokyo, became the city to keep the Emperor under the control of the Samurai Shogun.

    • @downunderrob
      @downunderrob 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @franciscoguzman1034 That is who he was talking about. The Council of Regents took over from the Taiko, to Rule in the Emperors Name. Until the Taikos son is old enough to take that title.
      The man who died, Lord Nakamura, was a peasant. So legally, he could not become Shogun.
      Only a Noble can hold that position.

    • @MrFloppyHare
      @MrFloppyHare 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@franciscoguzman1034 You are mistaken. The Emperor or his family did not appear in the series. The old guy who died and had set up the system of the regents was the Taiko, not the Emperor.

    If you guys get a chance you really should watch the 1980's miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain. This FX version was good but, just like Dune, I feel the original is always a little better. 🙃 Shogun is my favorite book, James Clavell Is one of my favorite authors and I think Tai Pan might be the better novel by Clavell but whatever you do, don't watch the movie. 🥴👎😂

    • @BIGxBOSSxx1
      @BIGxBOSSxx1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Nah. This version is way better. The other one was negatively received in Japan. The original barely even focuses on the Japanese perspective, which is the most interesting part of the whole story.
