  • For the following two weeks, the recruits face their next learning curve; learning to handle, operate, and move with firearms. Catch up with the team, and see them all in uniform for the first time (featuring Danny's a little too tight pants...)

    1. Firearms, not weapons.
    2. Unless you're training live fire at least once a month with a lot of ammo, it's a waste of time. 6 months later, in the dark, scared, and a situation develops, I don't want a Police officer who has had rudimentary firearms training out running around with a loaded firearm. Train. Train. Train. Get the $$ in the budget to train regularly with live ammo.

      Truth! You can also do mandatory dry fire and weapon manipulation exercises and save a lot of money on ammo. I'm sure ammo is MUCH MORE costly in NZ than in the USA. I hope the police there don't have to use them...it looks like a very friendly and peaceful country but the world is changing. Stay safe! ✌

    All different to prior training. We were told not to group. Groups are exposed to WP rounds and grenades. Also avoid obvious places like building and walls, exposing to the skyline and not walking upright, preferably prone. Important when snipers are around. We were also had to wear inner and outer helmets to protect against airbursts. Green face paint would also help to break down the outline, part of the seven esses. They are shade, shine, shadow, sound, shape, slow and silhouette. In the day, paint was our best ally, and can save our lives too.

      @NicholasJoFoski 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      99% confident that this is normal training for recruit officers. Meaning that this is not a specialised group and is the normal police training. Regarding handguns, yes they do carry them on a normal patrol, as well as M4's which are a rifle however they are secured in the patrol vehicle.

    • @NicholasJoFoski
      @NicholasJoFoski 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a problem buddy, down here in Australia (I'm from Victoria) our officers carry semi-automatic handguns which I believe are a Glock 22. However when the decision was made to change from revolvers to semi-automatic handguns they were in fact not Glocks at that time. Regarding the use of rifles here in Australia, I believe that the S.O.G. (Special Operations Group - Victoria's Abbreviation (NOTE: Each state has a unit/group like this, the just use a different abbreviation such as the T.R.G - Tactical Response Group)) are the only ones allowed to use rifles such as M4's etc.

      Nicholas Jo'Foski Victoria police use Smith and Wesson Military & police (M&P) handguns.

    • @NicholasJoFoski
      @NicholasJoFoski 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Going off of the wiki and a simple google search, that information is correct. However I believe that is outdated and now incorrect, pretty sure it was 2010 - 2012 that Victoria Police decided to switch over from the revolvers to the semi-automatic Smith and Wesson M&P. That being said, after a deeper search I have found multiple sources stating that they are using Glocks now a-days. Also, www.ozgunworksandmilitaria.com is an Australian gun manufacturing company and on the "Glock 17/22" page is reads "GLOCK 17/22 USED By various Australian Police Forces including Aust. Federal Police, Queensland Police and Victoria Police to name a few".

      Yes....the average copper is a good bugger..... but with firearms they don't get enough range time to stay sharp. I used to shoot over 200 rounds of handgun ammo a week to realise my potential, and they get less than 100 rounds a YEAR.... Don't shoot that much now as I am old and don't get the range as often as I would like. Still pretty good with a 1911 or any long gun though....
      The police should be at the range at least every other month doing combat courses with live ammo, including moving targets.
      It's not fair to put them ion the street with such a low level of competence. Happily, most criminals can't shoot for shit.... giving the cops, one would think, an edge, although in practice that is hard to see.
      Being fast and accurate with a pistol is a difficult skill to master. The AR platform is much easier... no recoil to speak of, and they give them red dot sights. The downside obviously is lack of good trigger control from what I have seen.
      It comes down to money of course, and one can only be thankful for the sake of our cops that the really good shooters here in NZ are not people that end up confronting law enforcement personnel. If that were not the case, we'd have an awful lot of dead police officers out there.
