    Omar is a perfect example of a man that doesn't care about skincare like those of us who are obsessed with it do and who isn't interested in what a lot of us "skin care enthusiasts" are and I love his honesty! This is real life! It's so interesting to learn about the things that are important to him that many of us wouldn't ever even think about. We all must be willing to see different perspectives to understand each other and each other's needs better. This is important in all of our relationships. I love how you two showed this so beautifully! 💕

      Tbh it’s mainly to due with legitimate “toxic masculinity”. That term is thrown out way too often but this is one of those where it’s just a byproducts of men putting down other men
      The word men on products is there cuz we think somehow that cop out will work if the other guys see us using girly stuff like lotion lol
      It took many girlfriends pressuring me to give it a try and looking back they didn’t even know what they were doing lol. Not one used sunscreen

      I wholeheartedly agree with him on the twist cap on the Necessaire and Fenty products. It's part of the reason I use them regularly. I apply all my skincare either in the shower or on wet skin and I've never dropped it, unlike with bottle droppers and the like. It's a big plus. You can have the best product but if it's annoying to use I won't use it.

    I recently realized my boyfriend was using bar soap for his whole body and face, so I found a body wash for myself that would be gentle enough for the face and offered to let him use it too. I also offer him some of my sunscreen anytime we go anywhere - sometimes he accepts, sometimes he doesn't, but at least now he's wearing it more than he used to. So many of my family members have horrifying routines, my aunt just uses shampoo runoff from her hair on her face and she uses a exfoliating glove on her face several times a week, my dad just uses 3 in 1 everywhere, it truly gives me chills.

  • @Cara-39
    @Cara-39 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Hilarious! Recently, I was horrified to learn that my 68yr old Dad's nighttime "routine" was to wash his face with Soft Soap liquid hand soap. I immediately sent him a basic cleanser and moisturizer via Amazon that he could repurchase at any drugstore and although he claims he's been using them, it's quite possible they're collecting dust.

    It's so interesting to me to hear about everyone's funny deal breakers. Like "The product works well, I just don't like [insert thing unrelated to how effective it is]" lol
    For me, it's smells. My skin is happy with fragrance, but my nose is _not._ I have to push myself to get through the Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel, because I just hate that it smells so strong! Can't wait till it's finished and I can go back to the Gel Cream. Not as light, but it never made me break out and it hasn't got a smell.
    And Garnier's miscellar waters are the worst! They work fine, but they're just too much for my nose.
    I feel like smell _shouldn't_ be a deal breaker, especially because my skin isn't very sensitive, but I just hate it!

    • @LabMuffinBeautyScience
      @LabMuffinBeautyScience  3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I agree - some products just smell too wrong for me to handle! I’ve noticed that US drugstore products tend to have stronger fragrance than the ones I’m used to though - I’m starting to see why people from the US can be so anti-fragrance 😬

      Totally agree about Hydroboost! I also couldn’t use the Inkey List Multi-Biotic moisturizer, Selfless by Hyram’s Niacinamide and Maracuja Moisturizer or the Haru Haru Black Rice Toner for the same reason. Fragrance (even the natural fragrance of the ingredients) can be a massive dealbreaker for me. The only one I’ve stuck with is Great Barrier Relief.

    With my husband, the first step was getting him to use sunscreen when we go out. Since he really doesn't care about antiaging, I told him about skin cancer prevention. And it really worked: he has gotten super diligent about it. I just feel sorry that the drugstore sunscreen he likes gets attached to his beard and looks 'dandruffy', lol. On the arms, we both use a sunscreen spray, which makes it all easier. Now, I'm convincing him to use a simple Cerave facial cleanser at night (to get some niacinamide in there to help with his acne, and remove all the sunscreen)... since he totally ignored the Paula's choice bha toner as well, lol (rookie mistake). But I must say that he's always had a habit of using moisturizer on his face and body after the shower, which I find impressive. All I did was switch the old Nivea can with a Cerave moisturizer and he enjoys it just fine. Baby steps.

    Idk why the lesser known Paula's Choice BHA isn't talked about more! The only gripe most people have with the OG holy grail BHA by them is the oily/sticky feeling and the Regular Strength Clear version BHA has none of that! It literally feels like water on your skin! Sinks completely in! I love it and it's my go-to BHA!

    • @Siberius-
      @Siberius- 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! I left a similar comment:
      You gotta try the Paula's Choice CLEAR 2% salicylic acid leave-on in regular strength! it's just watery liquid... it's amazing. It's not as strong as the oily original grey bottle one, but so worth it anyway. It's so much nicer. DON'T get the extra strength version, because that's just the original oily grey bottle version but repackaged. Except they added another preservative...
      I hate having oily products on my skin. Why does no one talk about the PC regular strength CLEAR BHA in the blue bottle... a version of it has been around for the last 14 years (or at least that's the earliest reviews on the website, it probably existed before that).

    • @LabMuffinBeautyScience

      Definitely! Hard water usually feels harsher - you can try using bottled water instead for a bit to see if it's the reason, then invest in a water filter or follow up with toner or use a water-free cleansing method (like micellar water, which was actually invented for people with bad tap water).

    Hello, I recently started using "Garnier pure active charcoal bar", which is also a solid bar "soap" but it's stated on the packaging that it can be used on face as well. The list of ingredients is following: Sodium Palmae Sodium Cocoate, Aqua/Water, Glycerín, Parfum/Fragrance, Perlite, Zinc Pca, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Charcoal Powder, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Salicylic Acid
    Would you recommend it for the face? Thank you!

    • @LabMuffinBeautyScience

      I wouldn't recommend it, it looks like a true soap with high pH (though I could be wrong - try testing the pH).

    My partner had such clear, smooth, beautiful skin when we met 6 years ago, despite having no routine. He'd literally just use a bar of soap under his arms and "down below" when he showered, and would wash his hair like once a month. I tried to teach him some basics to maintain his good skin (cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen when outdoors), but he never really did any of it. Now he's approaching 30 and says that he wants to take better care of his skin, because it isn't looking so great anymore, yet still doesn't listen when I try to teach him things 🙄

    i'm a guy who's into skincare (not really by choice, but just because of bad genetics), and i can totally relate to Omar liking that feeling of "dry" tightness on the face. It feels clean, like you've stripped away all the gunk from your face. Of course these days I know better but I used to love that feeling as well when I was younger.
    I don't want to speak for men in general but I also hate anything that feels sticky, tacky, powdery or slippery on my skin. It's just a really gross sensation. I don't know if women have just been socially conditioned to accept being fine with products feeling like this when they sit on the skin but, for me at least, a product has to feel like nothing within 5 to 10 seconds after applying otherwise I end up hating it.
    I think this is the reason it's difficult to get men into skincare - most of these products just feel awful/unnatural/gross when you apply them. Add to the fact that men generally view skincare as "unnecessary upkeep". In some ways, it just doesn't make sense in our brains why you have to have 3 or more steps for skincare - like why can't companies just create a single item that you put on and it's essence and serum and retinol and toner and moisturizer and whatever all in one thing. This is the exact reason men love 3-in-1 crap like body soap+shampoo+conditioner in one bottle. Skincare, a lot of times, it's just too much effort for too little (or too slow) an effect.
    I'm glad there are more skincare products for men these days because every second I have to look at myself in the mirror just to put some liquid or gel or cream on my face is just such a waste of time (of course I know that it really isn't but having to do something like this every day without an instant effect feels like a waste of time in the moment) and these skincare/beauty companies need to realize most men think of skincare as a chore rather than something enjoyable.

      In the USA, soap made with fats and lye doesn’t need an ingredients label, but non soap bars do. “Artisan” soap is very nice soap, but it’s still soap. Most shampoo bars are not soap, but check. (I’ve made both.)

    He's using salicylic acid toner for his blackheads and ocassional pimples and a good moisturizing cream, and The Ordinary AHA peel once every two weeks or so.

      Same. I like the aveeno oat bar and good molecule has a salycic acid face and body bar that I like (although I don't use it every day) By rights bar soap is more drying even when the company works hard trying to minimize the risk of dryness. For regular old cleansing cerave makes a pretty good moisturizing soap bar.

    You should have him try the Skin Aqua UV moisture gel in the pump bottle. Yeah it won't work in his backpack but have him try it on the beard area. First of all it's cooling on the face which feels nice but a lot of women don't ever consider beard hair or even stubble when putting on sunscreen. Women's facial hair just doesn't compare to men's. You have to put way more sunscreen on those areas because the hairs just trap them and prevent you from spreading it. The Skin Aqua one dries very fast and spreads so easily and it's invisible when it dries down even over facial hair.

    Let's note that twisty tops are possibly an essential skincare ingredient for men 😅 (but good points, I never thought that the ease of application, as well as a different preference of how the skin feels afterwards, might heavily influence men's tendency to use cosmetics positively or negatively)
    My husband uses a gel moisturizer. Got him used to niacinamide serum, just recently introduced azelaic acid for his rosacea too, which is still sitting unused in the cupboard.
    I love the Bioré SPF myself. Would want my husband to use it, too. Still, a long fight to go 🙄.

    On the topic of solid/soap-like products, I would be really interested in a video ranking these, simply because I really try to be packaging-free in my life. But, with skincare, it's so difficult. I kinda managed to find a body moisturiser, shampoo and conditioner in solid form that I like (from Ethique) and I use a high laurel-oil savon d'Alep for my body. When it comes to facial cleansers and moisturisers, I have not really been able to find one that's gentle enough for me.

So the Dove cream beauty bar available in India may not have the same ingredients list as the one in Australia. Could you please tell me the list of surfactants that I should look for and not look for in the one in India to make sure that it's still a good bar soap? Or else could anyone from Australia type out the ingredients of the one available there for me?
