I think painting the panels in sections like your saying is the best way to go. I painted my 2000 rs (Aspen White btw) and had the same dilemma and decided to paint them on the body. It made it more difficult to get the door jambs and like you said it was hard to get paint in a lot of the little nooks and crannies. If you paint off the car you can also hold the fenders flat so the clear will lay down nicer. Also, when you mix the epoxy primer if you put the hardener in first it's easier to measure it perfectly which helps it set up better. Looks great, I love seeing the progress!
So happy this car is front and centre again haha. For sure some motivation for fixing my rust holes all over the bottom of my bugeye. Insane work as usual. Can't wait to see this on the track.

For the fender to hood gap I would think you could hog out the mounting holes a little to scoot the fenders out slightly. After all the primer and paint is sprayed it will tighten up your gaps again.

How’s the front intercooler fit with the front bumper??? It’s awesome to have the bumper ready to modify if needed for the intercooler then paint the bumper so much less of a headache to worry about.

Love the gc8 stuff, I have a WRX GC8 my1999, 6 sp/r180, link g4+, self tuned ECU, water meth injection, battery relocation, electric hydrauilic PS pump, vf28 turbo - 18 psi, stock injectors (440cc), sti v6 struts. great daily fun vehicle no slouch either. I've owned it for > 10 years now. i havent done any work on it for a while but keen to mod it again haha - parallel fuel system + bigger top feed injectors + turbo that 22b replica kit looks amazing, I can't wait to see this finished.
Throw some pool noodles on top of your X stands! Then drape some masking paper over the noodles. Less chance of scuffs and dings when flipping parts over. Ultimately I'd get yourself a nice stand to hang doors and hoods. Looking good !
Fuel system cleaner is the only additive that actually works. Just ask lake speed jr the motor oil geek, the ppe stuff in it actually works, in the wet northwest I run the injector cleaner every month. And it does work with ethanol I did it already and the subi lives for now still got some lead foot issues though.
@@Smeedia I would actually like to hear from Techron too if you have a source. Cuz I didn’t even think about compatability. I just dumped it in and fired it up and then drive like a maniac.. I’m sure it would help lubricity of the e85 since it’s lacking. I have seen e85 specific cleaners as well. But I went with the stuff you recommended. Good results so far. I also use the flex fuel stuff to the max since we don’t have a ton of e down in southern Oregon coast. We have eugene sequential bio fuel and roseburg chevron.
Have you had any issues sourcing hood vents? I’m also in the pnw and was struggling to find a scoop and vents. Ultimately I found a set at the wrecker but it was a good hunt while I was searching.
I'm curious why you spray epoxy primer with the intent to sand it? When I have painted cars, we used epoxy primer over bare metal, then a high build primer surfacer over the epoxy while it was still tacky. This method promotes good layer adhesion while still allowing for easy sanding for straight body work.
Just the way I’ve been taught to do it, normally once the primer is down I’ll go through and fix any imperfections I see and sand the panel smooth before paint
Cant wait to see it done. Next build should be a ratty 2.5rs with older parts to just thrash. I built my sti all perfect and now its too serious. My 96 legacy got all the old parts and used jdm goodies that werent good enough for the sti. Its the more fun car since i dont care about it. I jist take it out and beat on it without guilt. It gets 10x the love my sti does just because its so carefree and just a mixmatch of parts. Oddly its my favorite car and was totally by accident.
Cant wait to see it. The things going to be a beast. Keeping up on your vids to pass the time on yet another deployment. Under 100days. Lets see if this thing is done before i make it back to my cars. Family too but mainly my cars.

Under the hood is the hardest part to body work and paint on a car. Dreadful to prep, and hard to paint. You would think there is a better way but there isn’t sand blasting sounds easier Untill you try getting all the sand cleaned up, thought I could save time, but spent all the time I saved on cleaning sand😂.

From what everyone sees it may look like I have just oodles of money to throw at these cars, but just like everyone else I have other financial stuff I need to address. You should pull the gas fill tube and flashing and hardware so it’s like factory. Not a huge deal.

No lol the wiper motor has been meh since I’ve had the car. They’re discontinued and very difficult to come by

It’s the motor, I’ve tried those wiper arms every way possible and reset the motor position more times than I can count lol

Mainly color consistency, keeping the same colors under each coat to try and keep the top coat same same across the car
