- Hey guys! This is probably my most requested video of all time, but I thought I would talk to you about how I (somehow) managed to get a place at Oxford University - I talk you through the personal statement, written work, tests, and interview to help you with your application! Good Luck :) xx

People get all A*s for their entire life and don't get into Oxbridge... It's not as clear cut as you're making out dude.

It doesn't matter. Jade had a TH-cam channel with a very large following and still didn't make it. Eve hardly even mentioned her TH-cam channel in her application, and even if she had gone into more detail, Oxbridge would be predominantly more concerned with her achievements in academia.

Idk why I am from Asia and I am 13 but I am so excited entering Oxford so I am saving up and researching how to enter lol I am already planning my life
Hey, just a tip, if you manage to save just enough to cover the costs, and if you know that when you do graduate you will have close to zero in your bank account, it’s safer to take out a 50-30% loan. I know that if you take out a loan you will have to end up paying more eventually, but know that it is safer. It’s safer to have some money in the bank in case after graduation you need to wait before you get your perfect or dream job or even any job. I’m saying this cause I know an Oxford graduate in theory will be in high demand, but I know of Oxford graduates who had a hard time getting jobs despite having low expectations/ only basic criteria. that is just my experience, so take this advice or not do with it as you will.

When I went to my open day at Oxford I watched a current student go through the interview stage as part of their “open day talk”. They gave plenty of tips; the biggest one being that if you feel you have failed miserably in the interview that is probably because you were progressing well and they wanted to push you a bit (I think Eve can vouch for this after watching her cry over her interview!!)

I was rejected after interviews but will be reapplying since I wanted to take a gap year anyway. Maybe we will see each other in a year haha
I have a comment on the getting pooled/having interviews at differen't colleges thing - it's different for every subject! (and every year possibly) I was applying for Biochemistry and was told at the start that apart from my "original" college I'd have an interview at a second one, same with every other person applying for Biochem. And then on top of that some of us might get invited to even more interviews. So really, don't get attached to anything anyone says about the amount of interviews/colleges because it's different for everyone! :)

Hey Eve, Could you please make a video on how to revise languages? Specifically Speaking? As I'm going into year 13 this september doing french AQA .. and wanted to know if you have any tips on languages, or a revision rouine before exams? It would be helpful, and again, congratulations on getting in Oxford ; You really deserve it xx !

Thanks Eve I remember asking for this a few weeks ago. I shared this with my sister and she’s now going to apply to Oxford. I am going to Cambridge this year. One extra thing I would also say, is watch lecture/tutorial films, so you know what it may be like for you there, and if you feel like it fits for you. (I know the interviews simulate this whole process, but this is also a good tip.)

Loved this!! I’d love to know your thoughts on the pressure of Oxbridge? I’m so torn whether to apply or not as even though I loved the city and college system, I’m worried about the stress of the course and feeling out of my depths...! xxxx
I had the exact same problem! Especially since I was choosing between a logical choice (just plain old engineering at any uni) or my dream course (NatSci at Cambridge).
Sometimes you shouldn't let your fears hold you back, so I'm applying for the latter and seeing how it turns out
I wouldn't worry so much if I were you.You can always quit if you don't like it.anyway hard work pays off and loads of kids did it.if you had amazing greads in high school you should be fine in collage
If they let you in, it's because they know you can handle it. So you may as well apply!
Actually...it's my dream to get to an university like Oxford one day... At the moment I'm in 10th class in Germany... I would say that I'm a very good student in my last end year results I had As everywhere except for sports where I had a B lol xD. I actually also don't know what exactly to study but maybe I would actually go in a direction like mathematics but I am still very unsure... I'm also very unsure if I would be able to make it there...plus I'm not a native English speaker... I don't know if I would have disadvantages because of that...
Firstly, congrats once again on getting into Oxford - if anyone deserves it it's you! Secondly, I wish I could go to more open days, but they're during the school year, and I live abroad. 😩 I went to one and fell in love with the city. I would like either Trinity or Balliol because they're both old colleges, and they're both near the Bodlean and the English faculty. I finally settled more or less on English Lang/Lit as my course, though it was a long debate, and I'm sad to be giving up History and French. Fingers crossed!
I feel you on the not - understanding thing. It can feel really embarrassing. I remember when I had my interview for my current school, I forgot to turn my phone on silent since I normally leave it on silent. Guess what? It went off in the middle of the interview. 😂

I'm thinking of applying to Cambridge for languages and I'm doing French, biology and maths ☺
So like quick question...If I don't pass my English or maths gcse but I got over 6 in science could I still go to that uni and so science? Because apparently in 6th for if you don't pass your English or maths they will like give you lessons. Is it going to be like that in Oxford to? Well I'm going to be in year 11 this September... This isn't really a quick question lol
okay reading these comments i’m a little scared. i’ve got high predicted grades for my gcses by the trouble is i go to a hospital school and i’m taking maths english combined science (2gcses) music and art. so if i pass them all that’s still only 6gcses. i might be able to take english lot next year with that it would be 7 but idk guys. i’m seeing people who are taking like 11/12 gcses and idek how

This is crazy! I am a 13 years old girl and live in Germany. My dream is to go to the Oxford university! I am very interested in archaeology and astronomy plus history and languages and more! I keep practicing my English.. what I mean is that I text with people in English watch English movies and play English games and of course write in English and do tasks in English books, I need to learn more English.. got any tips? I mean, I have a lot of time!!!

“dont have a fixed mindset” that is sooooo crucial!! In my interview at Cambridge, the only question they asked about my personal statement was a stereotypic statement on architecture (the subject I was applying to) ...and it was really hard to change mindset and switch to an objective view under interview condition. I literally got too nervous that I couldn't say grammatically correct sentences😂 (English is my second language).

Don’t know if you’ll ever see this but the applications for UNIQ 2019 have started today. I’ve read somewhere that appli can needs to write a short essay explaining why they should be accepted for the course, but ai haven’t seen this in the application. There’s a section for special consideration (illness/ death of relative close to exam dates). Is this where I need to write this ‘essay’? Or is there no such thing

I decided to apply to Oxford 6 days before the deadline (i.e. last week) - safe to say it's been a stressful week writing my personal statement in 3 days; I also haven't revised for the MLAT yet... :/ with only 2 weeks left until the exam, what should I focus on with revision for the MLAT?

Out of interest, do you know how your teachers integrated your "extra personal statement stuff" into the reference? As in, did they sort of say "her particularly original interpretation of X" or more like "Eve did X and X"? I'm asking because I'm having to guide my teacher as German schools have zero Oxbridge experience...
I'm kind of concerned about not having enough super-curricular diversity in my personal statement, as I've really only read a lot around my subject and haven't had the opportunity to go to any events or summer schools (because I didn't know I'd be applying to England and therefore didn't know I'd be needing a personal statement at all, and my life's just been piano competitions for years). Do you think I should make an effort to change that in the next two months even though I have way too much to say about all the books anyway?
Also, what did you read by Kafka? "Die Verwandlung" literally made me realise that I had to study literature in some form. Your German interview sounds incredible (though very traumatic to have actually gone through!!) - I love your succint answer to the "is poetry death" question, I would have taken it way too metaphorically and gone off on some tangent about the death of the soul or human nature or hope or some shit :D Though I would have been so excited for the "why do we read literature", that's literally what some of my PS is about.

P.S.I'm intrigued that you had to chose between English and German, not English and Spanish, as you've always seemed particularly enthusiastic about German! (Though maybe that's my bias as it's my subject;) Did you think Spanish was your stronger language, or were you unsure about a certain aspect of German?

Hello Eve! I gave my AS exams in march , and i got UMS 97 , 97 and 100 in physics chemistry and math respectively. However , due to the covid situation in the past year , I havent been able to participate in ANY extra curricular activities . I've got 3 months to do as much as I can so that I have a shot at getting accepted into oxford. What do you suggest I do ? Can my good grades save me ?

Hi Eve, I know you probably won't see this but I'm looking for advice from anyone familiar with Oxford! I got my GCSE's results today and was so happy to see that I got all 9's, 8's and one 7 however I also got a 5 in music. I'm not surprised seeing as I had 4 teachers within 2 years and they didn't teach us what we needed to learn and didn't support us. However would it still be possible to apply to Oxford with this 5 on my record even though I'm not planning on continuing music? Thanks so much ❤

I changed my mind to go to Oxford University (I do not think I'm going to get there) because I'm not from UK or US, I'm from Central Europe ... I participated in some Erasmus projects .... I I'm Cambridge University (Cambridge University press), I know English very well but I did not speak either German or Spanish .. and from what you said you need to know these languages very well .... only if I'm preparing for them but all I have very little chances to be accepted at Oxford

I was wondering, what does Oxbridge think about taking gap years? I know that they’re not too keen on them unless there is a good reason however, does that still mean that I still have a chance of getting a place even if I take a gap year?
Phantom R As long as you have some sort of plan (such as traveling or working) they’re not bothered about gap year students otherwise it’d be discrimination. So just don’t go to interview and declare you just want to binge TH-cam for a year baso. (I got an offer with gap year but declined it anyways so you’ll be good)
Phantom R (after going on the oxford residential and asking them this) they told me they don’t really like deferred entry
I would love to go to oxford but t it’s a bummer I live in Glasgow. I mean we’ve got Glasgow university and edinburgh university which is like a 45 minute journey and then probably 10 minutes from the train station but even though edinburgh is good it’s just not oxford or Cambridge is it. It’s weird though cause there are a lot of people in England who drive like 3 hours just to get to work but in Scotland an hour is a pretty long journey to get to work.
