Successful pork factory in Israel - vpro Metropolis 2014

  • Family Silber runs a very successful pork factory since 1983. This is odd, because most of Israel's population claims not to eat pork because of Jewish beliefs. The pig is considered to be impure, and eating its meat is taboo, but somehow a lot of Israelis secretly do it. Factory bosses Anne and Idan Silber did not alway have an easy childhood: ‘We were bullied, yet everyone wanted to trade sandwiches with us.’
    vpro Metropolis was a video project by Dutch broadcast organisation vpro, that ran from 2008 to 2015. Metropolis is made by a global collective of young filmmakers and TV producers, reporting on remarkable stories from their own country/city. We made a trip around the globe on one single issue: from local beauty ideals to Elvis impersonators, to what's it like being gay, or an outcast or a dog in different cultures.

    As a Jewish work colleague of mine, many years ago, said to me when I asked him why he was eating bacon, "forbidden fruit always tastes the sweetest."

    • @dougiequick1
      @dougiequick1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am very convinced that the wicked "fruit" spoken of being "eaten" in the Bible is spiritual/allegorical. Where to "eat" is the poetical way to say "partake of" much like when people speak (just for one example ) of "having you cake and eating it to" mostly is never speaking of literally ingesting literal cake but just to partake of something. And "fruit" is well understood to be for example "enjoying the fruits of your labor"....fruit being the product OF an endeavor . So now what is the allegorical practice condemned in Genesis? NOT a literal piece of fruit but of PARTAKING "eating" of the claim to KNOW "good and evil" ...in other words the lying SIN against God and man claiming to rightly/righteously KNOW what is righteous and unrighteous! Making one's self "GOD" in other words ...making one's self a righteous infallible JUDGE over what is right and and not right. Because hey ...individually we are people of few days, who can NOT see the biggest picture....we are fallible without the RIGHT to declare our OWN understanding RIGHT above all others ....and I mean I am not dumb ....I know I can't even say these things without repenting of it...I am FALLIBLE! NOT God ....I repent of "eating" that "fruit"....And when the"serpent" (tongue of man) insists "oh but you CAN righteously choose this or that"? I say "get there behind me sawtan (adversary of righteousness/what is right) ....I am SO overwhelmingly convinced that the Bible is "Spiritual" /allegorical/poetical and that all attempts to make literal (the letter) understanding out to be "the LAW" hinge on the FALLIBLE /carnal imaginations of mere people...."the letter (the literal) KILLS"....."God is SPIRIT" ....the Spirit OF truth itself....all we then can rightly do are along the lines of repenting of FALLIBLE presumptions to BE infallible right and to simply keep hoping for and be desiring of more and more correction toward honest righteousness (what is right) ....but you simply can't serve both lying AND honesty ....one thing"hates" (rejects) the other

      Matthew 15:17-20
      “Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.” KJV
      Mark 7:15-19
      “There is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man. [” If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”] When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable. And He said to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?” (Thus He declared all foods clean.) NASB
      1 Timothy 4:1-5
      “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” KJV

      Sparrow Ilan the kosher is the dietary manual described in Torah and in the Old Testament . However pigs can not survive in the desert due to the extreme heat and lack of plant variety to pasture in contrary goats eat everything even the thorns or the bark of the trees. Furthermore the consumption of pork meat requires more water to be consumed from your tissues in order to digest it.An average pig can reach over 100 kilograms while a goat or a sheep cannot go over 40 kilograms , so as you can understand the economy in that case played an important part of the dietary law, the semi nomadic Hebrews weren't able to preserve the pigs meat or consume it all within few days plus they often moved changing settlements the goat can walk miles and in a very difficult landscape while the domesticated pig can not. About the cleanliness and the split hoofs is uncertain as chicken eats everything including pests snakes and even dead rotten chicken, however is considered to be a clean animal for the Torah. Every religion created certain dietary laws out of necessity but there is a logic behind it. Fortunately we now live in organized society and we have fridge and doctors !

    The funny thing is (and I am NOT specifying specific religions,sects or individuals) Is the number of people I encounter that CLAIM to bonafide members of WHATEVER that give no real evidence of their "faith" judging by their actions and things they say. To me it is more just tradition...superstition I suppose. They won't denounce or directly bad-mouth the "faith" they were raised in or have adopted at some point but other than to participate in the scheduled rituals, and to check the boxes on forms and give lip services where deemed appropriate? They are simply full of CRAP hipocritical....liars ....and I have to condemn myself in this also but I HOPE at least that kind of lying is now behind me. My current heart is to simply be honest ...to no longer swear to stuff AS right/righteous that in reality are only suppositions I was attracted to. I think it perfectly honest and acceptable to be attracted to certain beliefs and doctrines as long as one does not cross the line where you are LYING ....when as a fallible human being one begins to SWEAR that his/her CHOICE of beliefs is infallibly RIGHT? Well THAT is a big fat LIE! ...EVEN if it turned out to be right, it is the fallible estimation of being right SWORN to AS infallibly right that makes a person a downright LIAR. ....a silly example would be if I was about to flip a coin and you would SWEAR to infallibly KNOW it would landing tails? EVEN if it lands tails? NOTHING changes the unrighteous fact that you LIED....So if one adopts the generally held stance that generally lying other than perhaps for humor sake etc is overwhelmingly a dishonest wrong evil thing to to be doing to your fellow man? Does it not make you unrighteous for such declarations? Does it not make the "faith" of so many people unrighteous? deceptive and evil? ....my 2 cents and regarding my own repentance of doing exactly THAT while insisting it to be right/righteous "faith" ....anyone agree or disagree?
