    Normally you would give up when you saw all that Liquid Metal. The will to not give up is exceptional and I’m so happy that you didn’t just give up and push on.

    Pro tip Joey: On things like the Switch CPU just use solder balls. With paste theres a very good chance you're going to end up with some balls uneven but with balls they're guaranteed to be the same size. The stencil sticking is normal. Just heat up a little before pulling it off. It's best to pull it off while it's hot.
    Also the cpu getting hot isn't likely a bridge otherwise it would've happened on both sides of the port. It's more likely a bad charging port.

    Try putting the solder paste on some paper towel to take out some of the moisture, and then pack the stencil with the dryer paste.Also to get it to remove after melting the solder paste put a couple drops of flux to help it release. Good Luck!

    I am very thankful for you. I have been curious about doing things with re-balling and I knew that I didn’t have the skills to do it so I haven’t bought anything to try and start doing that yet. For as much as you have not had much success in re-balling, you have shown me some things as well as others that it’s not easy. Thank you so much for giving it a shot and for letting us watch!

    What you need is a 15"x15"x11" approx ultrasonic machine, use distilled water and a decent electronics cleaner solution will make life a whole lot easier. Or find a used machine and transfer the workings to something like an enamel metal oven dish and add some horns to get max coverage. I have heard people converting old deep fat fryers keeping the heating element to warm the water and just affixing horns to the base and wiring it up.

    Hey joey try a "higher grit" of solder paste i hear that it makes it easier. Also i think that you had the order of your steps wrong. If im correct it goes.
    1put stencil down onto chip and line it up
    2apply solder paste
    3remove stencil
    4apply heat

    I hit my stencils with 450c, I find it melts the paste quickly before the stencil starts to warp.

    I did apu reballs just like in your video, i used the stencil as a guide flux and tweezers with hot air to reflow the balls. Until i discovered a cheap bga rework station of ali Express, profiles included, I'd never go back to hand reballing as it's 50/50 success rate. 😢

    You need a direct heat stencil if you're going to heat the stencil itself.
    Hence the bending when heated, that one there is just for applying the balls

    Stencil you used is not direct heat, solder paste too "wet" also...proper direct heat stencil shoul be smaller, with size reduced to cpu size, that will prevent stencil from bending.

    So what you're saying is, that re-baller stencil thing or whatever it's called, needs to be made of a material that is NOT metallic ... so it doesn't attach itself to the board while you work with it... like a ceramic or something? Ceramic is an insulator so it'd only get hot where the holes are for the pins or whatever they're called. Oh hey should I trademark the idea? J/K Also, hello from Montana, USA

    Dry the paste plus does stancil are just rebold not to apply paste and removed stancil then apply heat thats why you need dry paste

  • @TheSpotify95
    @TheSpotify95 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hmm, looks like we're finally heading in the right direction. But given your expenditures, and also other things like postage costs (remember there is an eBay fee included on the postage price) and packaging materials, realistically you're going to need to be +£1200 to +£1500 before you actually have £1000 of net profit for yourself.
    Anyways, good luck, and hopefully with the reballing/reflowing equipment you might even be able to revisit some older Nintendo Switches that have APU/CPU issues.

    Joey, something I've always wondered - what is the Wick for? What does it do? What's its purpose?

    • @oortcloud210
      @oortcloud210 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You use wick to draw up solder from components/boards. It's like a sponge for solder.
      Lie it down on the board where there is solder you want to get rid of then heat it with an iron and it will pull all the solder off the board into the wick.

    Joey pleaso do not use solder paste for bga´s that big. use it for small bga´s when u don´t own a stencil for them... u won´t get the balls evenly flat/big with the paste... its alway better to use the right solder balls...
