A question that's left slightly open ended after the end of UNDERTALE is who exactly became the heir apparent! With Asriel dead, who's left to fill the role? Admittedly, Asgore has things covered... for the time being, that is! What would happen were he to resign or pass away? Someone else would take over, but it's a question of narrowing down who. UNDERLAB finds out!

There are characters who can remember little things if you don't do a true reset. Like how Toriel can remember if you prefer butterscotch or cinnamon. Maybe Temmie has a similar deja vu sort of feeling looking at you or can see that you're tired from dying and re-loading over and over again. Timey-wimey-witty-pity.
What about Frisk? If they were adopted by Toriel (and possibly Asgore), would that count as being an heir? I wouldn't know. :p
That thought had occurred to me as well, but being seemingly only 10 yr. old at most in the game's canon the kid probably wouldn't be able to handle such responsibility, nor have the experience required.
Also, if one chooses to have Frisk become the ambassador, Frisk couldn't take over in a ruling position.

and a flower on steroids infused with body parts and mechanical parts that does pretty every bizzare thing you can think of

Fair point. Frisk was indeed extremely brave, no doubt.
What I had meant was experience in having that much responsibility: an entire kingdom--perhaps hundreds, maybe even thousands of citizens--and being the sole leader of all of them. Needing to be able to lead them in times of trouble, or reign in those who got out of line...Frisk I would doubt had any know-how on such matters.
Chara seems a good option
They were far more "intelectual" than both Frisk and Asriel, as seem is their plan to get the souls, helping along in the game as the narrator and in their speech at the end of genocide route too
They were even called "the hope of humans and monsters"
The problem is, though they are smart, Chara is still a child(a very playful one in the pacifist route) with a lot of issues by being abused by the humans, their rule could be as dangerous to humankind as neutral route's Undyne
Thanks to Frisk thought they may be able to rule now without these issues if they ever choose to"Hey mom hey king dad im back!"
Talking about Frisk, they become the ambassor of monsters if you choose so in the true pacifist, not only Asgore - Toriel adopted children
so they in fact are in the sucession line now

I personally always thought, if it was after a True Pacifist ending, that Frisk would take over, if Asgore suddenly didn't want to be king anymore, since they're the ambassador of monsters. Just my opinion though

Actually, speaking of King Mel, I'm surprised he hasn't commented yet, or at least hasn't been pinned yet.

Heres my ideas:
The first idea that popped into my mind was that Undyne or Alphys would be next in line after the Dreemurs, considering their "government" positions.
However, afterwards I started to think: What about Gerson? He was the Leader of the Royal Guard before Undyne, which means that he would probably be next in line before her.
Another possibility could be Gaster, if he was still alive because he was the Royal Scientist before Alphys. And if that is so, and Gaster would have inherited the throne, but since he doesn't exist (or whatever tf happened to him), his heir would be Sans, if you follow the "Gaster is Sans/Papyrus' Dad" or "Gaster Created Sans/Papyrus" theories because Sans would be his oldest son, and as you stated, typically the oldest son inherits the throne. Unless Sans is too lazy, in which case Papyrus would be next.
This even seems far fetched, but maybe even Frisk could be the heir, even though they aren't a monster. We know that Chara (the first fallen human) was treated like the King and Queen's own child, even though not biologically related, so it is possible that they could have been given the throne if they were still alive. However, Frisk is the next closest thing the Monsters have to Chara, and we know that Toriel (and even Asgore) treated them like their own child through many parts of the game, and by the end of the pacifist ending they are well-liked by many of the monsters in the underground. So maybe, it could be possible that Frisk could inherit the throne. This is far fetched though, because they are a different race, and usually a native of the region you are in would inherit the throne.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!

I like how in the third neutral ending with flowey alive he tells us that he had a really hard time to defeat sans, but eventually did. But he never could defeat Asgore so that he could get the power of the six human souls.

It might not have been the third neutral run, but one of them.
Sure, Toriel was disgusted by Asgore's killing, but she was more disgusted for the fact that Asgore waited for the humans to fall, instead of getting one human soul, passing the barrier and getting seven human souls.

The monsters age if they have a child. Im pretty sure that every monster child ages ip to a point where they are adults, and then go into their elder years once their own children reaches certain ages
Yeah, boss monsters age like normal BEFORE they have a kid, and it's only if they have a kid and THEN it dies does the ageing stop

Undyne isn't a boss monster, so if she had a kid, she and the kid would age at the same rate as a human. The weird ageing rules don't apply to her

I mean, I loved this game and played both the Pacifist Route and the Genocide Route, but the fandom soon ruined the game for me. I honestly forgot about this game after a while. Here is in my opinion the way it would fall.
- Asgore passes and the throne instantly defaults to his child, Asriel, but he is “deceased” and therefor unable to claim the throne.
- It would then pass to his former partner Toriel, who we actually don’t know if they are still wed just separated or legally divorced. If they are not legally divorced then she gets the throne but because she is missing and would likley not catch wind unless by some chance Sans tells her in their knock-knock meetings that Asgore has fallen, she will never know till it’s too late. So she would be skipped down due to being missing.
- With Asriel and Toriel being skipped that leaves the top of command to take charge. The top of Asgore’s command is Undyne who would probably be handed the throne until either Toriel is found or enough time passes for the monarchy to fall and a new government established that would allow for a more fair power shifting in the future.
- If somehow Undyne can’t take the throne, the next in command has to be the last remanence of the monarchy, that being the royal scientist Alphys. Though I know that Alphys would not hold it for long, she would immediately format a plan, (assuming she hasn’t already,) to establish a proper government. Dissolving the monarchy once this new government is decided and whoever takes charge after... who is likely to be.
- Metaton. With a assumably democratic society in effect the vote for monster to rule would probably go to the one that most monsters know, that being Metaton. Though this brings up an interesting case. It’s very possible Metaton would lose from ignorance of a political system and not showing a clear stance in the important topics at hand. In that case I say that #1 best monster who has a shot of becoming the “prime minister”/“president” of the underground goes to...
- Sans. He is easily the 6th most well known monster in the underground besides Asgore, Toriel, Asriel, Metaton, and Undyne. He would be known better then even Alphys who clearly operates more-so I’m secret then in the public eye like Undyne. Plus he is very smart and clearly shows a passion for pressing issues in the underground. His only failure is his lazyness but I’m this case I imagine thats not too critical since Papyrus would be all for him as the campaign manager and assistant. Papy being well known too puts a huge boost in potential to Sans. Sans would likley end up winning in an election, but if both Metaton and Sans are out for some reason then there is only 1 choice left.
- Temmie would absolutely destroy in an election of Sans and Metaton weren’t running. With the murmurs all around of the secret Temmie Village and the fact that the main Tem, Temmie, who graduated from coleg shows smarts in knows how to manage the economy and goods extremely well, we can say without a doubt Temmie would end up ruler. If it wasn’t Temmie then it’s likley another Tem takes Temmie’s place, it ends here at Tem. Noone else has the prowess to run the entire underground or stand up to an election process... or maybe that stupid Annoying Dog would end up ruler somehow... jeez that would suck for the monsters.
In my opinion, Undyne would be the heir when Asgore dies since her and Asgore have a close connection and on the neutral routes where Toriel becomes Queen and spares all humans that fall down, I imagine that Undyne would be angry and upset about Asgore dying and want to kill the humans so she would most likely overthrow Toriel and take the throne herself. So, it would probably be Asgore, Undyne, Toriel, Sans and then Alphys (I didn't put her higher up because she wouldn't be that confident in herself and would probably refuse unless the situation gets really bad.) If you are wondering why Mettaton isn't there then, on the neutral route where he becomes King, he probably only got to become king because he was famous and his fans wanted him to take the throne, plus all of the other available people to take the crown were dead. But anyway, great video!

Technically, Asriel is not dead in the pacifist run. It seems so, but there is an Easter Egg that when the monsters go to the surface, you can go back to the underground and back to the place you fell. Asriel will be there, "tending to the flowers", as there would be no one to look after them, however he wouldn't be heir because he refuses to see his parents again.

I just realized that the big king in the intro of the game can’t be Asgore because in the picture, it only has one horn but Asgore had two so he must be an ancestor or something or maybe I’m just overthinking it but in Undertale, over thinking is not even a thing. (It depends on information that can only be guessed so there is not much ground for this theory but I thought I’d mention it anyway)

u know game theory pointed out that some of the lab entry were written by sans being that they were in all lower case and without correct grammar(sans would probable do that).
so I went to see witch ones were written like this surprisingly the one about asgore finding a mug that looked like the author of the entry was in lower case and without grammar (I guess it makes more sense for asgore to find a skull shaped mug rather than one that looked like a lizard). This means sans and asgore have a good relationship so its a little more that just finding sans in the final corridor.
I think Undyne would stel in, not only is she head of the Royal guard. but she also has a history with Asgore. A history so deep thst he might feel like a father to him and she might feel like a daughter. So I think, besides Toriel, she would be most likely to take the throne
So basically it would go like this for the heirs
:Toriel
:Undyne
:Alphys
:Sans(as the royal judge in headcanon)

Assuming there aren't any characters we simply don't meet or hear of in the game, then I'd say after Asgore, and with the death of Asriel, the original heir, the queen would be next in line of succession. I disagree that there's no nobles at all in the Underground, we have 2 very obvious ones as major characters in the game, Undyne is Captain of the Royal Guard, which would place her as a military advisor role in the royal court, and Aphys, as royal scientist, would also be an advisor to the king, making both viable choices as next in line, if not as Queen, then as Regent, until a more suitable heir could be found. Also, if Asriel had needed to succeed, Asgore as a child, he may inherit the title of King, but someone like Toriel, Undyne (or Gerson if before Undyne's time) or Alphys (or Gastor if still around) would serve as Asreil's regent until he was old enough to take on his kingly duties as an adult.
I'm sure there would be others of royal or noble lineage around somewhere too, who we just never meet in the game. Remember there is the Captial, which is supposedly a big city, but we never really see it, when we get there, we arrive directly in the castle, as the regular elevator to the capital is unavailable to us the whole game, first because it's broken, later because it's constantly in use, so we never get to actually explore the city itself. So there may yet be a relative of the Dreamurr family in there somewhere that just doesn't come up in the story.
