I love how positive you are about everything. I know most people would go through that and say that it's unfair, or that it's stupid, but you just laughed it off and had fun. It's actually pretty admirable

I mean I found the path of pain fun yet extremely annoying too especially when I got into a rhythm but ended up dying loads due to misinput I still haven't actually beat the path of pain yet because I had completely forgot how to fight the kingsmoulds (which is really the only unfair thing about the path of pain I mean come on putting 2 2 mask dmg minions at the end of a brain numbing parkour that has no benches). though I should be able to do the parkour quicker now at least.
But it is unfair and stupid.

@@AshenDust_ when he has to do the saw bounces, you are intended to go to the left to go up and get to the next wall jump; spot, but quin is a legend and did a speedrun strat of bouncing on the saw on the right.

Also (I'm saying that a lot damn), that little moment between the Pale King and the Hollow Knight basically proves that the Pale King's plan to seal the infection was doomed to fail, since he can't help but form some sort of bond between him and his child, and said bond probably tainted the Hollow Knight in a way that gave him a conscious and a mind, it gave him the will and desire to protect and save Hallownest to make his father proud, but it was that desire that doomed him to fail.
This game is dark af when you learn the lore
Also I think the path of pain itself was a training course for the hollow knight itself.

You think that is dark? No Eyes origanal backstory was that she went on a quest and left her children in her home thinking they would be safe. But in the middle of her quest the infection happened and she came back to her home hoping her children wasn't effected bu it but they were. Her children swarmed her and ripped her eyes out. So, yeah pretty dark if you ask me

The hardest challenge in the game is The Pantheon Of Hallownest, only the gamerest of all gamerkind can game hard enough to beat it

I don't know, I feel like beating AbsRad in Radiant difficulty felt worse than Pantheon of Hallownest... but maybe it was because of the repetitiveness of the task.

Imagine if this memory of Pale King and the Hollow Knight was the only one memory of his beloved child Pale King allowed himself to keep. But he made it that way that he had to do Path of Pain every time he wanted to access this memory, struggling every time, punishing himself for a mistake of actually loving his child, a mistake, that brought his kingdom to an end.

So you asked for HK-similar games, here's what I'd recommed:
- Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight (the most similar in my opinion, much shorter but it's a metroidvania too, with a similar tone and atmosphere to HK)
- Ori and the Blind Forest (has less focus on combat in favor of platforming, also much more linear but very enjoyable nonetheless, the sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps is much more similar to HK though)
- the Guacamelee series (a brawler style metroidvania with LOTS of platforming challenges)
Now you gotta play all of them cuz I spent time writing this comment.
ori also has part 2 which finishes the story up, can't recommend it enough
oh and also mages of mystralia, quite good spellcrafting game
I was also going to recommend the Ori games, I loved them. The second one is better, though obviously you need to play the other first for the story, but considering how good the gameplay/graphics/story/ambience/soundtracks are (and how little commitment does it actually require, since the game can be beaten in a fairly low amount of time), it's totally worth playing both, and I'd be really happy to see Quin's letsplay.

I’ve actually beaten the path of pain. It only took me 4-ish hours and my sanity because my game chrashed right when I was at the end. So I had to do all of it over again, but overall it was pretty fun to suffer.
Things I think you should know about this game or do for future videos:
-Soul Master/Soul Tyrant has his own theme, last time you put Mantis Lords theme over his battle
-You really need to go do more Godmaster, you can rematch your favourite bosses there and get two endings
-If you fight White Defender five times he builds a poop statue of you
-If you fight Grey Prince Zote ten times the statue in Bretta’s basement turns gold
-Somewhere in Kingdom’s Edge you can find a lore tablet explaining all the locations of Mister Mushroom in order, in the same shaft, head downwards and find the largest geo deposit in the world
-White Defender has his own theme, you put his normal theme over his battle
-If you go into Deepnest and explore the home of Hornet’s mum you can find a trilobite statue
-Please read the Hunter’s Journal entry for stuff, it’s very interesting

Path of pain is just a challenge for anyone who thinks they're ready for it, I don't think it would be the same if doing it was required to get something useful. I actually quite enjoy the subtle lore it gives along with a little journal entry to show you beat it.

When I did the Path of Pain, I had to take hours-long breaks in between segments just to get my heart rate down. Overall, it took me nearly half a day to complete…
But by GOD was it satisfying to complete.

Basically this, though in my case the last segment alone took more than all the other segments put together. So I had to take several different breaks at the same location o.o;

I read in a comment somewhere that you could consider the path of pain a boss fight against the pale king, as its your will to complete it against his will to hide his darkest secret and final mistake. I thought it was neat way to put it, and makes the memory of dying to buzzsaws and thorns for hours less painful.

i did path of pain hitless before, only took like 15 hours of practice
When I first beat Path of Pain, it took me about 2 hours of playtime. And I'm still insanely proud of that, seeing as my first time against Watcher Knights were 6 hours full of sweat, anger and complaining about the concept of contact damage in videogames. And yes, I used the chandelier :D
I probably beat the watcher knights in about 2 hours. But path of pain took me 12.
How tf did I beat the Watcher Knights on my first try?

Well, what i did is:
On the last part of save you have infinite soul so everytime you hit yourself just heal up, and when u get to the boss you will be full health.
Tho be carefull.. i did it with 1 heart left

I made it to the last level, and after 3 hours of no progress and me crying, I had a mental breakdown and intentionally killed myself to leave the path of pain, I then vowed to never step foot in there again... until 6 months later when I did a second play through and beat it.

Beating the path of pain was the most tense 8 hours of my life. I don’t normally get angry at video games, but damn did hollowknight push me to the edge.
But seeing more of the Pale King and baby Hollow was worth it tho.

‘Ori and the Will of the Wisps’ is a game that borrowed the good things form Hollow Knight and fused it with its own gameplay style. I just know you will like it!
Edit: I just realised you haven't reached the """true ending""" yet so minor boss spoilers ahead. Just read this after you've dream nailed HK when Horney as them pinned down
So while the ending of PoP seems pretty insignificant, lore wise it has large implications:
What you see at the end is likely a cherished memory of the Hollow Knight, but since it was created and/ or conditioned to have no mind to think etc., it locked this memory away behind the Path of Pain. This explains why this supposed perfect vessel for the Radiance became corrupted by the infection after all: deep inside, the Hollow Knight cherished a memory of a father long gone. And the infection latched on to it.
Also I beat PoP in a 2 and a half hour sitting, yelled triumphantly when I beat it, my thumb still ached days later

You asked, so I shall answer. Yes, I beat the path of pain. Honestly despite it taking a few hours to beat it felt a little disappointing knowing that that was the hardest platforming challenge this game had to offer.
My favourite thing is how positive you are. I dislike when youtubers and streamers complain and blame the game for being too hard and unfair espically when it's not required to do
You so need to watch a speed run for that, trust me you’ll feel feelings you’ve never felt before

If you havent played it yet, I would recommend playing A Hat in Time. It’s a very nice 3D platformer.
(Btw if you have a Nintendo Switch, there’s also Astral Chain. Its made by the same studio as Nier. And its a masterpiece)

I haven't completed the whole path of pain, so you've got me beat on that. It's one of those things that I would do if I had time to. Nice going and keep it up.
I do wonder if you have done the delicate flower quest, as I remember you going to her but I don't remember seeing you do the quest, if you haven't then that's another thing you should do since you get the last mask shard from it, and if you have done it then I have a bad memory. I'd recommend doing it before going to true ending, and had I remembered I would have told you to do it before Nightmare King Grimm. Good luck on whatever you do, and especially on delicate flower quest.

I think you'd like Shovel Knight, it's not as difficult or as dynamic but it does have platforming and a bunch of bosses. Try it out if you have the chance!

I actually somehow completed the path of pain on my potato laptop some time ago, and I died at the very very end.
So my great boyfriend got me a mod to just teleport myself back to the end because I technically completed it anyway ( no judging ;; )
If you died at the very end of the path of pain - you didn't complete the path of pain.

I spent hours getting to the end only to die to the enemies at there. Then I spent a lot less time getting back... only for the game to tell me I was using focus when I was actually trying to use soul. So I went through it again and finally succeeded

If you haven't played Ori and the Blind Forest yet (and its sequel, Will of the Wisps), it's pretty similar to Hollow Knight. They're more focused on platforming than combat, and nothing in them is as hard as the Path of Pain, but they're beautiful games nonetheless.

@@misterlion4700 I beated the game 112% beated the pantheon of hallownest ,beat half of the bosses on radiant difficulty including nkg and pv and the other half on ascended and beated the game 100 % on steel soul mode

I can't be the only person that has watched these path of pain videos at half speed to understand tricky bits, can I?
Took me like 3 hours to get to the last statue in path of pain then I played like 4 more hours and couldnt bear it. Came back a couple weeks later and finally beat it in like an hour.
Editing an hour and twenty minutes of gameplay into a seventeen minute video seems like an achievement in itself.
I'm severely impressed that you beat the end part in one try. I died there the first time, simply because I was unable to move from shock
I remember beating this took me 9 houra true that was on switch so pogo was a bit harder but I was so proud afterwords and it still sticks with me in terms of both the pain and how awesome I felt
