Spend another $100 and get a bidirectional scanner that will scan all modules, not just OBD 2.
Like he said, OBD2 will just take you to the area where there is an issue. Confirmation will be needed with the bidirectional function.
Very informative video for the beginner, nice job.

Thank you for this video. I have watched countless video on how to use the scanner I have. This is the first video that actually taught me anything. The other videos on here either have people just hold the scanner while it's in it's package, and read the highlights, or they plug their scanner in and just go through a bunch of screens without saying one word, or actually doing anything. The sad part is that this video was by far the most Informative, and I don't even have the same scanner as you.

Well I'm glad to hear you learned a thing or two :) This scanner is relatively inexpensive, and works like a charm!!

I wouldn't go to a mechanic shop, "sounding like you know what you're doing," you're just going to piss off the mechanics and may end up costing more and taking longer to get your car back. Just sayin, some mechanics can be very spiteful.

A great explanation video, wasn't sure about this OBD tool I'm new to mechanics, finiahed 2 years of college studying light motor vehicle maintenance and repair and to be honest didn't get to do much Practical sadly!! Anyway I'm looking to buy my next car... second hand car that is and i was looking to buy a diagnostic tool that was easy to use and give me a heads up with faults or errors with the vehicle. But now from watching this video it has helped me to understand how it works.
Sorry for the long comment here. Thanks for sharing this video and making it idiot proof lol keep up the good work

thanks for the video. One question. Can we save the codes for future lookup? Mine always asks if I want to erase. If I say no and scan new...will it store more than one diagnosis, i.e. if I scan in September, and find a code, then scan in December and there's a 2nd code, can I store both codes? or is it only one at a time?

great info video, very helpful instruction .... BTW, that one is the exact same as the Harbor Freight inhouse "Cen-Tech" Deluxe OBD II & CAN Scan Tool. Just bought one on Black Friday for $55.99 (20% off $69.99). WARNING NOTE!! - DO NOT unplug the OBD II scanner UNTIL YOU TURN OFF the car/trucks ignition!!! AND DO NOT plug in the unit with the Ignition turned on!! You will fry the unit!

Thank you for sharing; great informational video for a beginner, like me, whom is researching OBD II scanner tools. I listened on another video that some scanners aren't good for vehicles with aftermarket parts unless you remove the aftermarket parts. I am lucky that I do not have any aftermarket parts on my truck [2005 GMC Sierra 1500 VHO 6.0L] unless a K&N filter counts in that category. I hope the K&N filter lives up to the beneficial claims that other experienced after installing a K&N filter. I have received mixed signals about OBD II scanners because some mechanics told me that GM stopped usage of third party scanner tools. However, I have watched a few videos about these scanners [multiple brands] and at a minimum they appear to be useful to troubleshoot the vehicle. Thank you.

Hi milanmastracci I cannot get my AL519 to show recorded data in MaxiLink2, so I can print it. All I keep getting is a red band with this:- (Please connect the device to computer) Green is the preferred colour.
Therefore the data is not displayed in Maxilink, I have had the 519 for 2 days now and I am going into a state of blithering guru meditation, I'll need a padded cell soon.
Can you plz show a video of the way that you would proceed with the data to show up on laptop/pc? I have read it could be a production fault and will warrant a recall to manufacturer. So far Autel support have not replied to my issue.

HELP. Had my spark plugs changed. Engine lights went off. Then after a while came back up. When I had it scanned at auto-zone, the same code from before showed up. And a new code as well. Took it back to the mechanic and the guy told me the same codes r just old codes. So I was wondering would an old code show up if it was fixed already? Guy seemed sketchy. Got me thinking he didn’t switch the spark plugs. I bought the spark plugs my self and only paid for the labor.
