It's simple. They had a good system and screwed it up. Frequent and predictable series drops fixes it. 2-3 spotlight appearances maximum, then drop. No more of these cards that are in 6+ spotlights like X-23 and Silk. Those are the worst. *Would I use a green cosmic on terrible Bruce Banner? Maybe if it was free... 😉
Thank you for the comment. Hard agree on those cards which have endlessly shown up in spotlights. Anddddd YOU WON THE BORDER, that's a cool suggestion and you need some compensation for Banner :D Drop me a message somewhere (Bluesky, X, TikTok, email) and we'll sort it out. It expires by 2025 though, so please be quick.
I kinda get why they did that, because noone was buying their cards and waited for them to be free. If you create a position where players wont have to spend on your game at least a little, then you make yourself lose money
I had this idea recently about keys, what i called "Key Fragments", basically they work this way: for each card you get from using keys that isnt the new one of the week you get a Key Fragment, and with 3 of them you can forge a Key, so if used 4 keys to get the new one, you would get back one, if you only had 3 keys and you didnt get the card is basically giving it to your for free. To prevent the abuse of the system i thoughts this would only work with cards you dont own, bc since if you get duplicates you recieve tokens, giving the tokens and the Key Fragments would be too much. I think it would improve a lot more the experience with Keys making it that everytime you use them at least you felt that you got a little bit of something that you can eventually use.
If They really want to FIX card acquisition, they'll find a way (If not already). If They don't, they'll find an excuse. And so far, all i saw was excuses.
very good ideas, in particular I like the "catch-up system", it would be a good incentive although I think it wouldn't be bad if from time to time they also gave you a kind of random selection of cards that you are missing and obviously you can choose one or maybe do it like in pokemon tcg mobile where they shuffle the cards face down and leave the choice to luck but in the end you end up unlocking something new. The green cosmic border looks amazing, I would use it on my Loki Skins
You make some interesting points. My thought is similar now, but adding tokens to every step of spotlights. Minimum 1k tokens with every card that’s NOT new. So, lets say it’s this week, you’ve got Bruce (new card, comes with all the bonuses you’re thinking and let’s say maybe a mystery variant for fun, then you’ve got the old cards, both coming with 1k tokens, then the empty slot, have to be a card you don’t have. Forget the 1-2k tokens. It’s a feels bad ALWAYS. Make it a card you don’t have 4 and up.
My fixes for card acquisition 1.) Expand Series 2- the smallest of all the series in the game- by adding some staple cards to it things like Luke Cage, Shadow King for example. Do this so it is about the same size as series 1. This helps newer players obtain key cards to help them build good decks. It also extends the period before they face near collection complete players. 2.) Break up series 3 a bit so it is similar in size to series 1/2 maybe a bit larger, or at least cap it where it is. When it gets too large we will see the same problem of it being a months long slog to get through it. 3.)Then have multiple series of cards there after and drop those blocks of cards down to free over the course of a year. So maybe they stay at the top level for 3 months where they cost 6k tokens, then drop to 4500 after 6 months, 3k after 9 and are moved down to being a free card after a year
These are good suggestions. I think simply putting drips in a schedule would do 90% of the work. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with spotlights, but the failure to drop cars fast enough is causing the biggest of the problems. Sage gets the border!
I disagree. Spotlights are bad game design IMO. The player only interacts with them rarely, but their impact is huge. This makes using keys incredibly stressful. The issue is that the player gets few rolls with decent odds and very negative possible outcomes. If you get the positive it almost feels expected and if you get the negative it feels like you got completely screwed. Card packs are good game design, because you open packs often, making it a casual thing. The great outcomes are very unlikely, so if you get it the feeling is AMAZING. If you don’t get it, then you just go to the next pack and hope for the best. It creates net positive fun. The spotlight caches create net negative fun. Pair that with the fact that you have to complete chores every single day to get them and the card acquisition system feels like a bad job that you dont want to do.
@@tinminator8905 I don't have a great wealth of experience with TCG/CCG etc., so this is a legitimate question, not a troll: I thought that spotlights were "card packs" a pack of 4 cards that contain one card you don't have, possibly two more you don't have, or variants, and a wild card that maybe you have, maybe you don't. What is a "card pack" in your mind that makes a spotlight not a card pack?
@ Spotlight cashes have 4 things that can be in them with all having the same 25% chance to be pull. A key only pulls one thing you cant get the same thing twice. Card packs pull somewhere from 3-10 cards and can have at least a few dozen things in them, where different rarities have different chances to appear. You also can get the same pull any number of times. This leads to a very natural progression, where the more packs you have opened, the less new cards you will acquire. That makes it easy for a game to give players a LOT of packs to open, because the more packs you open the less value they provide. That in turn makes the game more fun/addicting, because you spend a decent chunk of your playtime opening packs. The card acquisition becomes part of the gameplay. I hope this gave you an idea of how the subtle differences massively impact player experience.
I don't hate anything you suggested, but I don't trust second dinner to not be abusive with a system like that. I would just keep the caches the same the cards in caches are locked to them for 1 month, before going into a pack acquisition system. I would introduce packs where everyone can aquire up to 10 packs each day. It could be a point system like High Voltage to unlock the packs. Each pack will give you 4 cards 3 series 3 cards and 1 guaranteed series 4 or 5 card. If you get a repeat you receive currency series 3 gives credits series 4 and 5 gives tokens. I would remove the repeatable cards from caches though, and also shrink the card acquisition from 4 keys max to 3 keys max to get the new cards.
Good shout, the changes need to be a simple clear improvement. If too much is changed, they'll just use the confusion to obscure new system being just as bad
Ok, so you want a system where everyone gets every card in a week. Thats genius, why didnt SD think of that. Surely this would save the game instead of making it instantly make 0 money and kill their company in less than a month.
The sad thing, that if SD came up with the same ideas, then people like you would yelling greed. Especially at the 4 opening bonus a week. You would scream p2w. Also packs for this game is a horrible idea
Great suggestions to help make everything feel better. Overall it's currently a system that just feels kinda bad. I'd use the border on the Loki I just got by purchasing that bundle
I very much like the idea that there should be some extra cosmetic bonuses in the spotlight caches. I could even stand to not have duplicate protection if there was always a set of "Sersi" cosmetics that came when you rolled her. My thought was that it should just give you a variant for that card alongside the tokens if its a dupe (with fallback gold or random variants if you have them all for the card, which could happen not infrequently with series 5 cards. The easy use for that border would be Doom I think. Though, and now I sound like the number 1 Sersi fan or something when I don't even have her, but would look great with her VFX.
I like some of what you propose here - better catch-up rewards for new and returning players would be excellent, troves + more tokens both sound interesting, but I don't think this does enough to fundamentally solve the issue with series drops making the bloat of series 3 worse than it already is. I know SD is going to double the rate you get series 3 cards in january, but I don't think it would be wise to hope they continuously keep patching the rate every year to make getting s3 complete for people who haven't been playing since launch/beta since you'll eventually reach a point where new players are getting cards way too quickly to be able to really figure out what the hell they want to be doing with their decks. I firmly think SD needs to move away from series drops entirely and throw away the current system because it's very unsustainable and like 90% of acquisition proposals ive seen from players fundamentally fail to address the problems with dropping things into series 3, and I think that's because most players are already series 3 complete and won't have to deal with the bloat issue because they've already put in the time back when series 3 was much smaller to get through that slog and don't do enough to consider the new player progression grind into these kinds of proposals.
A TH-camr said an archetype web-system: choosing a discard, move, bounce path etc. and you unlock better cards in that archetype as you progress. Your method is super simple and can work perfectly but I’m starting to lose faith in second dinner tbh :(
that doesnt really work on a conceptual level, since what is “better archetype card”? That is completely meta and balance changes relevant. You cant put a label on cards that “this is better than that”
@ ya but I meant as you progress you unlock cards with more synergy with the cards you previously unlocked. Also some cards are definitely deck defining like Gilgamesh, wiccan, madame web, hit monkey, agent venom, war machine, zemo (big list).
@@dippstikk So how do you want to lock archetype defining cards behind an unlocm system without making that archetype completely unusable until you finish it? Also archetypes are a very narrow minded way of looking at this game. A bunch if cards are mixing and combining with other archetypes. You can make a “Wiccan” unlock mission, but you cant make a “Wiccan archetype” sort of thing. Especially as more cards are added to the game, these systems would just drag out and would require a constant rewamp of the system
1. I would put a hard cap of 2000 collector level to complete series 3. This would incentivize an investment to keep playing but not so long that people get burned out and leave. 2. For all cards outside series 3 they would be in one group (series 4 if you like), new releases would cost 6000 tokens for 2 months and everything older would cost 3000 tokens. 3. Through missions you will be able to earn 3000 tokens a week allowing ftp players to gain 1 new card a week or save for a new card. as part of this create a store page section of 10 series 4 cards that rotates weekly. This encourages daily log in and play. 4. Completely remove spotlight caches and provide straight tokens, variants, and currency for collector level. 5. Make tokens purchasable with gold, some people want to whale and that's ok. They make the game free for everyone else.
Instead of series drop, they should add a new serie each year. So they create a serie 6 now where all the new cards are added and include serie 4 cards in collectors caches. In a year, they create a serie 7 and the serie 5 is added to the collector caches.
If SD would come up with the same ideas, you would scream p2w. Especially at the 4 open a week bonus. You and the majority of the playerbase just decided that no matter what SD does, you see the worst in it
I think the best way to improve card acquisition is to get rid of the flexible series drop and go back to the monthly series drop, that’s a lot of the issue is we keep getting cards that been in series four and five for over a year and their filler and they been inflating the acquisition , 2000 tokens for the duplicate spot helps, problem is second dinner is always trying to push for ways to slow down acquisition whether is excessive grind or adding another card to the month
Sersi seems a good shout for the border, love that card. The only thing i disagree hard with in your ideas is the duplicate protection, dupes does feel bad, but it's a mechanic in collection that actually helps players catch up (the fewer s4/s5 you have the mor likely you are to get a new card from this) Honestly id take the tokens from that and give a premium variant for a random card. Id want 1) much more tokens in the economy through missions normal/cahces 2) cards have a 2nd spotlight cache 3 months MAXIMUM
I think going back to the old system before spotlights is the way to go and to give us a “wildcard” instead of keys. Tokens were abundant enough before the key system. This way if you want to get cards you play the game to open reserves with tokens.
Card acquisition needs work yes, It also comes down to what archetype(s) you enjoy playing. I stopped feeling that I needed every card and I only go after cards that fit what I like.
I would 100% use Marvel boy with that green border. And second dinner really is gonna have to do something in terms of car acquisition. Especially for newer players. I had a couple bodies try to get into the game not too long ago and they gave up after about two or three weeks because they were just getting outplayed with far better cards during games. And I can’t say I blame them
I would use the green cosmic border on my dr doom because it would look really good with my max grecke variant and i've been using doom a lot with doom 2099 lately.
Ohhh id love that border 🎉 what card....hmmm...im thinking that green would be great on Hela considering discard with her used to be so much fun. Now im a mr negative or doom2099 man
I was thinking every to weeks we could have character vs character like blink vs thanos you pick side battle players from the other team winning side gets the card loser gets 2000 tokens. Ps you you guys think there are enough cards to do this ?
.... Honestly the second you said a series 6 I nearly left but I decided to hold off. But then you had a the balls to say add more shit into spotlight catche and that really pissed me off. Because the second they add shit like borders, titles or anything else I'm done with this game. Honestly the fix for card acquisition is easy and that's they just need to stay with a three month series drop of equal quality.
I think you are all being WAY too nice to the spotlight cache system. IMO it is fundamentally broken has to be completely replaced. Here are my main problems: The game is pretty unfair towards new and returning players, making the player base ever smaller. It is pretty damn generous towards long time players, but only if they constantly complete chores. That makes them burned out and feel like SD is an evil CEO working them to the bone. For new and returning players IMO the best thing would be introducing some form of counter fomo. So retroactive content that will always be available no matter when you started. IMO the best thing would be a cheat card each season. It gives you the choice to pick any one card that comes out that season and is acquirable at any time even if the season is long over. This allows for free to play players to be able to acquire season pass cards, it gives insentives to returning and new players while feeling like a gift to everyone, instead of giving exclusive rewards for “not playing”. The cache system has to be replaced by some version of packs. No idea how that would look like, but it has proven to be successful time and time again. And actually be fun instead of frustrating. Lastly the chores have to be removed completely. Missions are specific and dont allow me to play the way I want to. Replace them with just playing games or rework them to be things that every deck does naturally. I am not a designer, but as a player these are the problems I see and the easiest solutions IMO.
While I do think these are reasonable changes, a couple of them promotes p2w elements, like the 4 key opening. I get that you mean this a good way, and I also think Sd think similarly in terms of promoting different spending methods, but the majority would see your suggestion as greed. Players are stupid in general
Yeah, I tried to be somewhat realistic in terms of what could feasibly happen. The ACTUAL way to fix card acquisiton, is that all cards are free and given to all players on release. But it's a free to play game, so it has to generate income some how, and some of the strongest ways to do that will be tied to acquisition. I appreciate I'm not saying this to you though, sounds like you already appreciate and agree with this/we seem to be on the same wavelength :)
7:00 i dont think this makes sense at all for the survival of the game. Pulling a duplicate just to convert it to a new card is clunky imo. Whatever change occurs needs to serve the players, developers, and investors. Card acquisition will likely need to exist in a more generous form for newer players.
This is really cool idea .. but what are we going to do for the players like myself that have mostly every card and been playing since they won and spend spending money what are you guys going to give to us.. I've been saying this since the very fucking first year for us that been spending money and supporting a game we don't get anything what are we going to get what I did do you have to get for people that been playing this game from day one and his as you can say complete level will mostly every card in every variant what are we getting nothing. That's another reason why this game is getting boring
Almost every single card in your collection and tons of cosmetics? I don’t understand your point. You already have everything. What more is there to give you?

I would use the green cosmic border on my dr doom because it would look really good with my max grecke variant and i've been using doom a lot with doom 2099 lately.
Good ideas
Could you make a video (in your opinion) which cards would be in pool 6
I'd use this green border on Green Goblin
I would use the green cosmic on my doom !
I would like to use that border on my sage
Either green goblin or fenris wolf
I would use it for HULK 💪🏼💚
I will use the green border in My green krackle Sage :)
I feel like an easy fix could have been going back to the way it was and have the current system as well.
I’d put it on Loki!
I use that green border on sersi
I appreciate I'm not saying this to you though, sounds like you already appreciate and agree with this/we seem to be on the same wavelength :)
cool video, hear a lot of people talking about the problem but not proposing solutions! would use the green border on green goblin!
Call Series 6 "Series Infinite".
Lady Loki,who else? 😂
Rez's solution is inflation. What a dumb take. Lol.
Endolphins 😂
Always the endolphins :D
7:00 i dont think this makes sense at all for the survival of the game. Pulling a duplicate just to convert it to a new card is clunky imo. Whatever change occurs needs to serve the players, developers, and investors. Card acquisition will likely need to exist in a more generous form for newer players.
Sorry but all of your ideas are terrible and overcomplicated for no reason. It wouldnt help.
No need to apologise, I appreciate your honesty.
I'd use the border on the Nightforged Man-Thing gold split.
The way you did it would help a lot and make it easier to acquire cards
