  • Have you heard of Mentalyc, the AI tool for therapists to write progress notes? This is one of many options now available for counselors who want to use artificial intelligence for progress notes made easy.
    In this video Dr. Maelisa McCaffrey of QA Prep reviews Mentalyc, one of the first AI progress note generators to come on the market that is specific to mental health clinicians.
    She discusses the basics, like how it works and how much it costs, along with favorite features of the platform and some concerns for therapists using Mentalyc. Lastly, she shares how well Mentalyc wrote a counseling progress note.

    I very much hope *any* therapist using this is doing full disclosure and informed consent with their clients. I myself would *not* consent to my sessions being run through machine learning in any way, I wouldn't even be comfortable knowing it was part of your telehealth platform even if you told me it was turned off. Even outside of privacy concerns just the environmental impacts of the energy needed to run machine learning networks is ruinous. (Improving the AI means they are using the data *you* enter to continue to train it. Not something many people are OK with.)

      I tired Mentalyc but was not impressed so I switched to Upheal. All of my clients, expect one, consented with no problem to both platforms.
