  • I think the new M&P 2.0 Compact is a better solution for carry than the 9c. The size difference between the two in minimal. This new mid-size frame allows better control, enhanced sight radius and easier manipulation. I feel the new M&P 2.0 compact, is just as concealed as the M&P 9c!

    I guess I’m one of those “misguided” people. Size of a CCW absolutely does matter and I believe many will find the 2.0 simply too large. Was for me which is why I bought the M&P9C.

      The 2.0 does seem a lot larger. Virtually no difference between 4.0 and full-size. The 9C"1.0" can be setup like a double-stack Shield.

      @@Alexxx7137 the subcompact and 3.6 are basically the same. The only thing is that the 3.6 handle is fixed and only get bigger while the subcompact can be easily concealed and yet still use a 15 or 17 round mag with the extension sleeves.

      Tyrone Power see you being a bigger guy is totally different for me being 5’6” at 165lbs. I can carry a 4 inch gun but I carry at 4:00 which can bump the tip of the barrel when I sit and it’s a little harder to hide the butt of the grip. That’s why the 9c was perfect for smaller people. Still a decent capacity with a little bigger barrel compared to 3inch guns but still easy to carry.

      There is the 1.0 9C with 3.5" barrel and 3 .6 and 4.0 versions of 2.0 Compact. S&W SHOULD make 2.0 3.5" with mag sleeves for full-size and 2 .0 15 rd. mags. Maybe include one may of each.

      Especially ankle carry as I practice and love in hot summer and formal dress. Have both, and prefer the original 9c in summer when ankle carry is my preference. That is one great little 12 round package in a Bianchi Negotiator Ankle holster. Love my 9 and 40 compact M2.0 as well, for other situations. Typically IWB 4 o'clock fall winter spring [hoodie/coat and heavier clothing weather]. On a rare occasion, deep concealed in a 3-Speed holster. Make your own music with your own instruments. Nice video, and I think even with your misspeaking about which gun is harder to conceal, we got what you meant. I recently purchased one of the first M&P 2.0 compacts available here in Reno, Nevada. I'm relatively new to firearms. I bought my first gun, a Walther Creed, about 2 years ago. I love that gun, and shoot it well with either hand. It is a bit too big to conceal, in my view. I also bought a Taurus PT111 G2 Millennium, and after some issues that necessitated my returning it to them, it's now back and running great.
    This brings me to the M&P 2.0. I rented a Shield single stack once at a local range, I liked it, and shot it well. The new 2.0 Compact sits in a place right in between those other guns I own. The barrel length is almost the same as The Walther. It is noticeably smaller in some dimensions. The Taurus is like a G26, but with a longer grip that you can actually get a large hand like mine on, and it feels great. After my first, disappointing outing with the 2.0 Compact, I went home and rethought what I was doing. I had installed the largest backstrap, and that hurt my ability to shoot it well. I'd suggest to anyone who has one, to experiment with the provided backstraps, and compare your targets. Yesterday, I installed the medium large, and it felt better, and I shot it much better, too. My friend who owns Glocks, really liked my new Smith. I think I made a great choice.

    • @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
      @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I mis spoke. What I meant to say is some people feel the new 2.0 "compact" (actually it's a mid sized pistol), is too big to conceal and that the 9c (original S&W compact) is much easier. I disagree, I think the new 2.0 is the perfect pistol for EDC!

      I agree that for a majority of adult males it would be no problem, and with its upgrades a joy. But NOT for everyone. That said, it would be harder for me to carry concealed but maybe doable and worth it (with some training). However, it would be a bigger challenge.

    I like the Shield better than the 9c or the compact 2.0 . I'm probably in the minority but the
    thin grip in the single stack shield fits my hand perfectly. I own all 3 and prefer the shield.

    • @JustifyJustin
      @JustifyJustin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm the opposite - I have large hands and the Shield is horrific. Top heavy, too difficult to get a front finger trigger placement, poor grip texture combined with an elliptical grip means I have to reset my hand every other shot in summer. Much prefer the 9C. The optimal size for me is the PT111 G2, which is half way between a Shield and 9C, but unfortunately Smith doesn't make something like that.

      @redoak3809 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love the Shield, but agree. For me if it was just a little thicker left to right and a little thinner front to back, or if I could get on the trigger at the right angle it would be perfect. The older Shield's trigger is now quite smooth, but if it was a little lighter it would be easier to shoot.

    I own and carry both of these guns as my off duty carry. The compact is a better fighting gun vs the 9c, but as minuscule the size difference is, it’s the better CCW gun. The small difference does make a difference. The compact creeps into duty gun capability and does so very well. I can still knock out 10/10 torso shots at 25 yards, with the 9c, which is more than capable. The compact can do the same AND do head shots all day long at that distance. For the civilian CCW permit holder, I’d recommend the 9c over the Compact because it’s more likely that they will actually carry it.

    I'll take my 9C all day. Can run a 17 round mag all day and that's actually how I carry it, Shorter barrel length helps with appendix carry and that's a huge thing for me. The fact that I can carry a 10,12,15 or 17 rnd mag in the 9C just doesn't warrant buying the 2.0. If it ain't broke don't fix it :)

    I have the 9c and looked at the Conpact. If you’re carrying IWB, the extra butt makes a definite difference in printing. I have an SR9, which has a thinner profile than the Compact and it is hard to conceal for me and I’m 6’1”. The SR9 came with a better trigger than the M&P out of the box, so I threw an Apex Duty Trigger kit into it and that made all the difference shootability wise. The tactille reset in particular. That and swapping the palm swell from medium to large really made the difference. The gun stay planted in my hand and the trigger pull is much crisper and lighter. The full sized SR9 shoots a tad softer, but it is barely noticeable and for me, the accuracy is pretty much the same at real combat distances for a pistol. (10 yards). Just my opinion but the 9c is the sweet spot for concealability and purchase. My hands are big for the Shield. The 9c is definitely more stable for me.

      Weasel 84x I’m about 165 and carry the 9c at 4 o clock but I’m shorter at 5’6”. My issue is I can carry a G23 which is a 4” barrel but the tip might bump when I sit and the grip is a little harder to hide. I’m thinking the 2.0 is about the same size. So for me I prefer the 9c with the 3.5” barrel and shorter grip.

    Either one can have a place. Some may find the 3.6" barrel easier to conceal than the 4 .0 2.0 Compact. The 9C is even more concealiable and more versatile as it can use 9C, 2.0, and full-size mags and has a 3.5" barrel. And it can be made more grippy with grip tape, and it isn't as trippy for those that don't want it. Some may find the new 2.0 too aggressive, but I really like it. The 9C trigger is not as good, but can be upgraded with Apex to a pretty decent trigger. I wonder if 2.0 trigger parts could improve it as stock 2.0 trigger is awesome. The 9C with standard magazines is awkward and a little unbalanced. BUT would be 3.5" awesomeness with 2 .0 compact mags and X-grips if X=- grip sleeve if X-trip would make them. I have tried it with modified full -size X-grip and 2.0 compact mag and like it a lot. S&W needs to release a 9C version of the 2.0 with mat extension base plates that blend in better than say the colorful blingy distasteful Hyve ones or provide X-grips. That 9C setup would make one nice carry gun as it would be like a double stack Shield. They could keep the 3.6" barrel and design it to accept ALL double-click maga. There really is a place in the M&P lineup for 3.5, 3.6 and 4.0 barrel lengths, though. I love the 4.0 version but the 9C or 3.6 would be better for me to carry with my body type. I actually find less of a need for the standard full -size now that the 4.0 is released, instead of phasing out the 9C get rid of the full size but leave the font-size full size. full
    What I really want is a 2.0 9C that can use 2.0 Compact mags' 9C mags,and full-size. Choices are always good... Toss in a long-slide Shield, too. Wait, one was just released!
    As a side note from, it appears that the only difference between 10 rd. 9C and 10 rd. 2.0 Compact mags is the "extended base plate. If S&W really valued their fans they would provide a way for their customers to use the 2.0 C mags with the 9C by providing a sleeve or molded base plate and 2 .0 palm swells for the 9C. I really don't think them supporting the 9C would hurt 2.0 Compact sales. I want all three Compact sizes, anyway.

The 9c is more comfortable sitting in a car. I carry in an Allen Swipe holster outside the belt. I use a shoulder strap to transfer the weight of the pistol onto my shoulders. I own and carry both. The 9c is my carry gun when I’m on my motorcycle, going to the gym, or to and from the store. It’s pretty much my go to gun when I’m by myself. I carry a 17 round mag as a spare.
    I carry my 2.0 when commuting to and from work. I also carry it when I’m off duty with my family or if I go to an area like San Francisco or Oakland. Again, a 17 round mag is my spare.
    My criteria for any gun I carry is can it make 8/10 head shots at 25 yards wile standing unsupported. I can do 9/10 with both guns, so either works for me. The smallest gun I carry that can do this is my Sig P938. I carry two extra 7 round mags when I carry that one.

    Excellent points, excellently presented. This would also be true of ANY handgun, wouldn't it? My wife is an excellent shot with her Walther PK 380, but had to get rid of her Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 380 because she couldn't hit the proverbial broadside of a barn with it. I prefer a revolver, and I'm reasonably proficient with my Smith and Wesson 442, but I'm much better with my Rock Island Armory M 206, simply because it has a bit more real estate to hold onto. I use the classic wood grips on both. Both are doa snub nose revolvers. The difference in barrel length is negligible (1& 7/8" vs 2"), and the M 206 weighs 10 & 1/2 ounces more (loaded). Everything is a trade-off. The 442 is a bit easier to carry and conceal, and the M 206 is a bit easier to shoot well.

  • @redoak3809
    @redoak3809 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with you that for many people there really isn't a big difference between the two in terms of size and the 9C really isn't that much of a big difference for concealment. However, there are a few people that would have trouble. The 2.0 comes with either a 4.0" or 3.6" barrel, and the 9C has a 3.5" barrel. For many it would be easier to manipulate the larger slide, but there is a trade off. If you are carrying Appendix then the shorter (and the shortest) barrel might be easier to make work, especially for those with a certain physical characteristics. A large/long person might not have that much trouble, while a shorter person might. Carrying in the 4 o'clock position might not be a problem with the barrel length. However, carrying the firearm might be easier, in particular, if the grip is shortened. And the 9C offers that, but at a compromise. The 2.0 Compacts are much easier to get a grip on and control for most people and most people will feel the balance much better on them. Again, the 9C has versatility because it can be adjusted with various aftermarket things, etc.. but they come at a compromise as well, especially in loading and unloading the magazines. SO.... For a large individual the 4.0 Compact might be the best of all. But for someone that wants the most versatility, or would have the most difficulty concealling the 9C might be the best. However, for me the 9C just does not work with the standard grip. I don't like the dangling pinky, and even with most aftermarket pinky grip extenders I am not that happy as the back of the grip really digs into and bothers the butt of my hand grip below my thumb. The compromise for me, though pricey and with its trade offs (silly color and too smooth) is the Hyve +3 grip extension. It gives the magazine increase but it also is slightly shorter in the rear than the standard 2.0 grip length (which is where you need it for concealment) and it also allows for the best balance, etc. and makes the "1.0" 9C handling THAT much better. A more affordable compromise without as much versatility might be the Compact 3.6. The 9C with the Hyve is marginally better in this department but has the slight awkwardness of the 3.6. Yes, the 3.6 is the best of both worlds. That said, grip extensions provided like those for the 2.0 to use full size magazines provided with either a 3.5" (older style) or prospective 3.6" "9C" 2.0 Compact that could use either the 15-round 2.0 magazines, 17-round full size, magazines, or the stock 12 round 9C magazines with or without pinky base plates would be a very nice alternative and one I can get behind. But with what exists, I would get the 3.6" 2.0 Compact as the best of all worlds. And, I love the 4.0 Compact as that is a perfect gun for me, but for my purposes it could actually replace the 4.25" version full-size one, as I don't think it offers that much up over the 4.0 unless one has really large mitts (although that extra bit of sight radius and acceleration in the larger barrel and potential for easier manipulation) in terms of my purposes. For you, the 4.25" might be a little too big to conceal than the 4.0, and to others and vice-a-versa. So, with those thoughts one could reconsider your claims in the video. Instead, give the consumer choices...
    Yes, Smith should offer choices! Long slide version, 4.25" Full Size, 2.0 Compact 4.0, 2.0 Compact 3.6, and yes, either an upgraded 3.5 or 3.6" 9C "1.0". That way there would be a system in place for everyone. The 4" 2.0 Shield is also awesome and would be my choice over the standard Shield (unless I was going to carry appendix) as the slide manipulation, etc. wold be better on the longer slide Shield (and in terms of the Shield I wish there were backstraps, as with my smaller hands the narrow but longer front to back grip on the Shield is less than ideal, but that is another video).
    Yours and my mileage might vary, but as for me, I would probably want a 3.6" 9C upgraded to 2.0 if that animal existed and would deal with the slide length, but would be more than happy with the slightly larger 4.0 Compact, but would settle on the existing 3.6" 2.0 Compact. And as of now, for me that slide manipulation compromise can be made for the venerable 9C with some grip and grippiness added and with the Hyve adapter and an Apex kit (with or without the trigger). THAT is the best for ME. And for those of you in an unconstitutional slave state (like me) the 2.0 Compact Mag Blocks (going from 15 to 10) work perfectly with the 12 round 9C magazine (not the 10 rounders) and the Hyve to give you 10 rounds. I am not a pleader for Hyve and wish they made extenders that were not so blingy and blended in more with the gun, and I wish they included some kind of texturing on the extensions, but, that is what I would choose. Would be nice if X-grip or some other stepped up to the plate and gave us some sleeves so that the 15-round mags could work with the older 9C. Too bad smith couldn't design a pistol in the future that gave you the various grip lengths so you wouldn't need to use aftermarket devices and all you would have to do is consider slide length, or make package similar to the Glock 43X and 48, and allow someone to purchase for an additional fee various slide lengths with the gun.
    I love the M&P platform. Newer triggers not perfect but better... Smith a deal with Apex so that they are still needed? In many ways, although the M&Ps are not Blocks (Glocks), they still are a bit Chunky on top, and being a little heavier and not as "thin" as the venerable 19. Still the trade offs are better and Smith has the better product.

    I have carried both. I found getting a solid grip is more difficult with the 9C when using the 12 round mag (the flushed base mag is the worst albeit the most concealable). Recently I found a mag sleeve from Xgrip that allows me to use the 2.0 compact 15 round mag in a 9C. This affords a much better grip with the 9C. It feels just like holding a 2.0 compact but with shorter slide and barrel. Because of this the 9C is now back as my primary carry choice.

      Thanks for watching and commenting... as far as a "better buy", it depends on what you're looking for. I prefer the full size or compacts over the sub-compacts. I have no problem concealing them and find them easier to shoot faster and more accurately. That being said, I also have the sub-compact M&P and enjoy it very much. Having the ability to run the 15 and 17 round mags in the sub-compact is a great feature of that pistol.

    I like my 9c slide size but hate the grip size. So I fitted the mags with Hyve extensions, and that I can live with, however magazine ejection is kind of a pita since my hand is touching the magazine. In the end I tend to carry my full size M&P 9 or my G19 more than I do the 9c, I will probably end up selling it.

      And to be honest I’ve owned about 25 Glock’s. There are much more accurate. They are much better build quality. As a much more accurate barrel and sites. My current one is decked out with every single upgrade on the planet but my girlfriend is buying one next week and I told her the only things that you need are the apex trigger really nice iron sites. And micro RDS, Then after that she needs to get the Apex dropping barrel and then send her slide off to get custom milling and get a couple of windows cut out to reduce recoil and also to make it look pretty but most of all let them know that you want the inside of the slide to be anickel colored finish. My MNP 92.0 compact has every single upgrade that you could possibly find and it shoots just as good as my $6000 nighthawk custom

    • @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
      @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 9c is a subcompact. My point was that some folks believe that the new 2.0 compact (midsize) is too big compared to the 9c. And therefore not as concealable... that's not the case. In addition the new 2.0 is easier to shoot, operate and manipulate.

    I won my m&p 2.0 9 compact, but the paperwork said 9c. Being a newbie to gun world i thought compact meant smaller. When i received my gun i thought is this compact, as its large to me with a 4 inch barrell. So what am I missing? I know there is a 5 in barrell, is this what he's referring to? I also heard, not seen, a 3.60 barrell and i am not talking about the shield. I want to make sure i was given the correct gun and not spend unnessary money to get a smaller gun. The best way to think on the compact is to compare it to the Glock 19. The frame is smaller. If you're looking for even smaller, the the sub-compact 9c or G26. A compact is a gun with a smaller frame for easier carry and concealment than a full sized gun. ... The Glock 19 is their “compact” in 9mm: The Glock 26 is their subcompact in 9mm. The M&P Compact is essentially their mid-sized gun

    Is the M2.0 subcompact very difficult to rack? Or does it require a break-in period? I have some muscle rigidity in my hands due to cerebral palsy, but I can easily manipulate the Ruger Security-9, Sig Sauer P365XL (and its baby brothers), S&W CSX, Glock 19 and FNH 509 Mid-size. I don't feel the subcompact is more difficult to rack. Really it's a matter of technique. Here is a video on that technique. th-cam.com/video/RWIfyntywds/w-d-xo.html

    I have the M&PC and 4.25” M&P 1.0 pistols. I carry the smaller pistol much more often, and if 1/2” doesn’t matter, why did S&W take 1/4” of an already fine pistol? In my opinion, it was purely marketing, and saying it’s the same size as a Glock has sold a lot of 2.0’s. Love the channel, so take this as just my opinion. ;-)

      I've always love the G19 and its size. (Put 50,000 rounds the an Gen 2 G19). So, I'm thrilled that Smith came out with the M&P 2.0 Compact. For whatever it's worth, many top instructors in the USA shoot and teach with the G19 ( A mid-sided gun). So, Smith is targeting a product (G19) that is used by others and extremely popular for tens of thousands of americans. Frank Proctor (an amazing instructor) is now using the M&P Compact 2.0. The 2.0 compact provides customers an alternative to the full size or compact sized gun and is targeted at the CWP holder and those who EDC. And yes, to compete with the G19. If it's a single action gun, yes I want a safety However, I'm not a fan of external safeties on striker fired guns. For a carry gun like the M&P Compact, I would not want it. Hope this helps.

      I accidentally ordered the 2.0 compact with safety and didn’t mean too. Big goof up on my part. But I contacted smith and Wesson and they sent me the safety plugs for free. So now it’s like I never had the safety at all. So you can do the same thing with your 9c.

    Scrub to 3:45 mark on the video, specifically the 3:49 mark, I see you anticipated a shot when you pulled the trigger and the weapon failed to fire. What caused that? I'm looking at getting a 2.0, but if this is an issue with the gun, I may re-consider. If it's only shooter error, then it is what it is.

      Operator error on my part I was short stroking the trigger . This wasn't my pistol and the owner had installed an APEX trigger that hand a longer reset than I am used to. Bottom line, the performance issue was mine not the guns. I really this pistol!

It's not that difficult to run the guns like the 9c or g26 when it gets harder is when you get into the so so stupid pocket guns. In my opinion those guns have no place and they plain flat out suck.

    • @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
      @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and commenting. The intent of the 2.0 compact wasn't to replace the 9c. It was intended to compete against the G19. Have you shot the 2.0 Compact? I've shot it and the 9c a fair amount. I can state that the 2.0 Compact is easy to conceal, and due to it's longer frame, barrel and enhanced trigger, it out performs the 9c --- for me! Nevertheless, feel of a handgun to the operator is subjective . Regarding the front serrations, many people press check their pistol using the front of the gun, those serrations give them purchase during the process. I don't feel one way or another about them. While I am happy to EDC the 9c, the 2.0 Compact is a better gun for me. Thanks again for commenting ... all the best and stay safe. I carry an M&P 40 full size in a no print wonder holster by Clinger. The no print has a tang that pushes the grip up against your body, so it's great for conceal. Any holster that has that tang or claw or whatever, which makes the grip lie against your side will do you well. For a single stack I carry a 9mm at 3:00, in a vedder lighttuck, with the butt canted forward so the back of the grip and the barrel are about even with the seam of the pants vertically. The full size I carry about 4:00.

      I started using Vedder LightTucks about 6 or 8 months ago. Very low profile and solid. They have the strongest spring steel belt clip I’ve seen on a holster yet. I don’t like belt loops and all plastic belt clips/hooks are garbage that stretch and deform rather quickly.

    I carried the 9c for three years and now the Compact. Conceal ability is the same. Very little difference. The new Compact is smoother and softer to shoot. I acquire a better sight picture and can shoot the new 9 Compact better and faster than the older 9c. So I carry the newer gun in the same spot just as easy, shoot it better and it holds more ammo. It’s a no brained for me.

      I appreciate you commenting. I believe the 2.0 compact is easier to conceal compared to the full sized. Just like the G19 is easier than the full sized G17. Its all a personal preference. The concept of the mid-sized pistol is to split the difference between the sub compact and full sized. I believe S&W has done a nice job doing that with the 2.0 compact. Thanks again for watching...all the best and stay safe.

      Guns, Gear & On Target Training, LLC what’s stupid is they had a shield,high capacity sub compact for CC and a full-size for Police and who ever else wants a full size pistol. Now we have a shield,a midsize pistol which is only a .25 shorter barrel than the full size and a full size. Seems kind of stupid. I see why they wanted a “compact” 4 inch barrel. They sell well and the M&P line was lacking it. But now the people who wanted a decent capacity “sub compact” will be forced to go elsewhere since their is no compact C line anymore. That means most likely they will go with Glock.
