Shanks has been very consistent, he was peacefully willing to give Kid an out even after they were aiming to pick a fight with the Red Force proper. But when Kid declared himself as outright willing to go out all and put weaker people in harms way Shanks had no mercy. All the way back in Chapter 1 this has been his personality, he'll take the shame and abuse if he can keep his allies safe, but hurt them and you die.

I do like that they showed that Kid could’ve completely blasted the fleet, although it makes me wish we could’ve seen it. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time we’ve ever seen an important character’s ship just utterly destroyed by someone else, that seems like a metaphor for just how heavy of a defeat this is. Losing their Poneglyphs and Ship just seems like a Sabaody Archipelago level reset for the Kidd Pirates. If they are going to continue to be a part of the story, they’re gonna damn near need a timeskip.

I wouldn’t put Bege’s in the same class though, even after his ship sank it was very clearly not going to be the end of his journey, it was filled with more hope. With Kidd and WB, their ships being destroyed definitely had a sense of finality to it.
I like that Shanks checked if they were healed first, he got mad at Greenbull for going after them when they weren't even healed so this was a fun detail.
Yeah Shanks is a reasonable person. The reason he did Kid dirty like that is because he was going to kill his fodder captains when there is a significant power gap.

I waited 17 years for this moment. 17 long years to finally see what Shanks was capable of. To say it was worth it would be an understatement. Dorry and Brogy were the cherry on top: clearly, the Giants of Erbaf aren't just goofy party animals, and can get quite sinister. Oda wasn't lying when he said that the end portion of One Piece would be the best part. Blessed.

I think it is interesting if you look up who Captain Kidd was in real life. He is considered the "Unluckiest" pirate in history. He died shortly after the privateer rules changed (similar to the Warlords being disbanded) and his death was used as an example and a warning for the future of piracy.

he was just an idiot and a villain. Kidd has done bad things all his journey. He never deserved to be an ally of luffy. Shanks ultimately proved that by protecting only his people and the island itself and its inhabitants.
I absolutely love this video tekking. Hypeness overload aside, you really dug deeper on how this single chapter described Shanks as a character. He truly showed us why Roger gave him the straw hat when he was younger. He did not just inherited Roger's strength (pertaining to his first ever named move Divined departure) but also his values as an honorable pirate.
Dorry and Broggy were also fairly vicious here. I did appreciate how Shanks wasnt willing to kick Kid while he was down though. He did try and double check that Kid had recovered from Wano first.

This really made me think of what Crocodile said back in Impel Down. How there was "No shortage of 'silver medalists' shedding tears just because they couldn't overcome Whitebeard and Roger" and I feel like that is Kidd. For as much as he persevered, fought, and grew, the people he's trying to beat and the rivals within his own generation are just too much. He's a could have been if not for the super monsters of the era.
kid couldve got to luffy/laws level too, but he got in his own way due to his arrogance. he doesn't bother to think at all. he doesn't pick and choose his battles/enemies..if anyone is even a millimeter in his way he decides to annihilate them without question. his brute force method and over reliance on his devil fruit stunted his haki growth and when he got to higher tier enemies he couldnt compete because he's used to picking on the weak. deserves it tbh for all the indiscriminate violence he has caused. same goes for his crew, they are all equally as crappy for following this lunatic

The Kidd pirates have really had a rough ride, between getting captured by Kaido, to having an insane battle against both Kaido and Big Mom, only to then get rekt permanently by Shanks. The crew members must be wondering which god they pissed off to be so cursed.

This encounter basically solidified what seperated the head supernovas. Law lagged behind luffy because his crew sucks Kid lagged behind both of them because HE sucked.
I love how oda does a lot with a little. We know shanks greater armada is carried by the main crew, we know shanks likely learned sword fighting directly underneath Roger since he uses his attacks, we know shanks only attacked Kidd so viciously because Kidd attacks indiscriminately, and we know shanks has really good observation haki just in a couple panels
the intro is a very accurate representation of what it was like to read this chapter, at first it was like “oh cool more egghead shenanigans” and then blackbeards flag showed up for a single panel and that already strikes fear into a readers heart but then what shanks did just blew blackbeards ‘appearance’ out of the water

Perfectly mirrors what Shanks says to the nameless fodder bandit in chapter that threatens him with a gun only for Lucky Roo to shoot him in the head. It was all fun and games for them until someone pointed a gun in their captain's face.
Shanks' actions are understandable, but also keep in mind that the one scar he has that's both on his face and on his jollyroger was given to him by a dishonorable scheming pirate that went after people he cared about and had respect for. If there is anything he can do to prevent another Blackbeard from rising to power I'm sure he wouldn't even hessitate.
Shanks asking about Blackbeard and how he was expecting him to show up at Wano is also a great explanation for why Shanks even showed up there when he just chased Green Bull away. He's actively looking to interrupt Blackbeard's plans, whatever they might be. While I also doubt Kid is dead, I would love it for the impact that it would have.
I think shanks feels partially responsible for handling black beard. He’s from his era and shanks always knew something was off with him. Now he has killed two people shanks respects I’m sure shanks is gonna show him now mercy if it comes to it
We as the reader expected him to Arrive after he conversation. With Moria but he played the field and divide and conquer he would of had to. Face 4 opponents instead of picking them of one by one now he has the same amount of poneglys with less effort.
Plot Twist: BB was never planning to kick Wano while they were down, because he didn't want to disrespect Oden like that. Shanks was worried for nothing XD
One small but important detail you left out of the review is Shank’s mentioning the reason they were outside of Wano in the first place was because they expected Blackbeard to show up.

Awkward moment when Kaido sending Kid to jail is more merciful than Shanks cooking him, taking his poneglyphs and getting Dorry and Brogy to destroy his ship
One thing I think is relevant for people comparing Shanks to Big Mom and Kaido: Although I think Shanks is stronger than those two (for narrative reasons, he is a "later boss" than they are), I don't think the difference is that immense, but Shanks doesn't have the nigh-invulnerability that those two had. Which means he has to be much faster and have a much higher offensive power, and I think thats what fucked Kid. He took a weapon made out to fight either a lot of people or really big people, but that was useless against someone who relies on impossible speed and one-shot level attacks.
Also, Kid isn't nearly as strong as any of the yonko's or Luffy for that matter. I even think Law would body Kid with his hax. Remember that Law was the reason why big mom took damage in the first place.

Its confirmed yasopp can see hours into the future and constantly (When not drunk) Shanks can see much more (when not faded) (This is my theory on how he knew about ace wb and kaido he saw a bad future and looked for ace couldn't find him told wb to stop him Nothing changed so he stopped kaido from killing everyone at marineford including a weak luffy) Also note they are constantly drunk To offset their haki Never not faded Calmness is required for observation (explained by katakuri) Concentration is required for armament (explained by hyogoro) Unwavering will is required for conquers (explained by rayleigh a d shanks both stated in reference to luffy going through something first shanks with ace dying "its okay to cry but don't be beaten by it, never doubt that is what will make you strong" When luffy was training with rayleigh He stated "never doubt that is what strength is") (This also explains chapter 1 shanks and the crew finished everything in makino's bar the fact he could use some conquers is impressive)
I’m not sure if he’s seeing a specific amount of time into the future or if he’s basically just seeing a potential scene from the future based on current conditions. Remember, future sight isn’t really “seeing the future” it’s predicting it based on current parameters. It’s basically instinct on steroids. Otherwise Kid would have succeeded in blowing up the allied ships if shanks’s future sight was accurate to the future. So shanks is just so finely tuned in his observation haki that he can tell the potential effects of his opponents moves well in advance, as soon as he feels the opponent getting ready to do them. Also I’m not sure if this extends to everything. Kid was doing a charged move. If he had instead fired all cannons at once, I doubt shanks could predict where every single cannonball would go, no amount of instinct can do that. But shanks is still mad impressive for being significantly above katakuri in observation while having the strength to oneshot kid.
Idk what people were expecting, Kidd went from barely surviving against a Yonkou with help from Law (and they didn't even kill her, just sent her underground) , to challenge an entire Yonkou crew and alliance by himself. Even Luffy wouldn't do such stupid thing.
Kid was no more than a plot device his existence is no more important than Yamato Support more importent characters with actual narrative purpose and then fuck off when you no longer matter. He helped Luffy and so on in the respective arcs he's in then gets his poneglyph collection just so shanks has poneglyphs of his own without needing to get them himself. Now shanks can actually join in the race for the one piece with Much less work.
This is the outcome I expected, but didn't think we'd actually get. Kid felt extra cocky leaving Wano, but I don't think he realized how much help he had along the way. He needed to be humbled, but Shanks decided to end his career instead. If he went in with a level head instead of charging up his special beam cannon, he might've lasted a little long. I wonder what Oda will do with him in the future, cause things don't seem too good for Law either.
When we see the story of One Piece from Luffy or Kidd's POV, it feels like both of them takes it as a game where they just defeat the stronger enemy in the storyline sequence and gets stronger themselves and after defeating the enemies, they just forget about them and gets to the next fun quest they can get. Shanks' POV makes us feel that, theres actually more going on in the world than just taking big strong pirates down and keep going forward to get the treasure. There are people under Shanks' protection whom he needs to think about, he knows he needs to keep up with the state of the world politics since he is an influential person, he has the wisdom and the code of honor that in a fight or competition where both the opposing sides must give their 100% to come out with the righteous results. He is calm headed, he analyses the situation and treats his allies and friends with respect and love. The story seems so matured from Shanks' POV all over. He truly is a character who deserves the hype and favor of the fans.

Looking back on it, I looked to imagine that the boat that picked up Shanks was Rockstar’s. Just think, Rockstar is on his way to parlay with Kid, sees his ubermensch captain rocket past him, and think to himself, “Well, time for ‘scorched earth.’”

From what I could tell Kid was not raised by the code of honorable pirates. He was much like the bull he made to snap Big Mom's arm; ever charging forward to his fate. I have a feeling he knew he was going to die but he wanted to go out in a way that felt right to him.
In regards to Kids devil fruit awakening, I think it’s implied he was using it because one of the panels the ships say something like “does it feel like we’re being pulled in?” Just before shanks makes his move
But Kid's awakening only seems to just let him apply a magnetic field to other non-mangentic objects or people. Remember right before the Onigashima Raid, when Luffy, Kid, and Law destroyed a ship together? Kid used his magnetic power to pull himself to the ship, meaning that ships should be magnetic enough for his basic power to work on.
I assumed that was the case, damned punk seems more like a plasma cannon that uses the electric fields of magnets as power than a railgun since its always drawn as a continuous beam
A little correction about the attack Kid was doing, he did have enough time to charge the attack to the point that the ships were getting pulled in. At that point, anyone could tell something bad was going to happen, but that's just a testament to how early Shanks detected a disaster before it even got to that point. Poor Kid may have gotten obliterated, but at least he was able to charge it a little.
I actually even believed Mr. Morj when he said that Shanks won't straight up destroy Kidd and there will be a 3-way Davy Back Fight. But what Shanks did was BRUTAL

At least we know a soft side of shanks, seeing how he taken in weaker pirates and put them in his protection. This chapter alone destroyed the "evil shanks" theory as a whole, even in the worst case scenario it's still probably a "gray personality shanks" rather than evil. I mean it's kinda obvious for a lot of people but with evidence it's getting clearer
Personally, I was never a fan of the evil Shanks theory. Of course, part of that seemed to be because a few of the people who suggested that theory (that I could see anyway) did so because they can't see a reason why someone would become as powerful as Shanks and not utilize this power for some grand goal. As odd as it may sound, I have encountered some people in fiction who have had a lot of power yet never had the slightest interest in developing a use for that power. As one of them stated, they fight against others purely to get what they need to survive and always have even if it means killing whoever gets in the way of that. It just so happened in that case that this character was hated by the more evil individuals of the world because a majority of the people who have gotten in their way and died tend to be evil individuals who usually went after this character either for the fame of defeating them, or just the enjoyment of killing. It had nothing to do with any moral stance on this character's part and they later stated that they would pass on their power to whoever passed their tests to do so regardless of any moral shortcomings that individual may have. Their argument was that progress (and the inevitability of them passing on their powers) was what had to prevail and that takes precedence over any evil that may be done with those powers. So, in their words that character is not good or evil, just indifferent for most of the series regarding the world outside of matters pertaining to their successor and their inevitable passing.
Insane chapter. Shanks is the type to go full power in the beginning and end it in a flash. As he foresee his friends getting hurt if kid attacks, he went ham on kid before he had a chance to react.

I am glad you highlighted the facts that Shanks try to avoid confrontation as much as possible first by asking whether he is still wounded or not and read info about Kid past behaviours. Most people did not get it and think it is not fair for Shanks did that to Kid. From the introduction at Shabaody, it was given info that Kid was a ruthless jerk who did not mind killing innocent people because of simple mockery.
I love the Viz translation of the allied leaders because the old man is Fugar the Addenturer, and he's the Social Club Bandleader. Which kind of implies that he doesn't even run a pirate crew, so much as a sailing club that got mistaken as pirates and had to roll with it
I like how Heat called Sanji pathetic for begging, yet ended up begging Shanks for mercy. I don’t blame shanks for “killing them” they are a threat and would have killed his friends if he didn’t interfere
@yungest chorizo true, they crucified their enemy's at the start of Shabody. They were always rough and without thoguht. Their only strongest fighters are Kid and Killer which are just very weak even if both Kid and killer shined on Wano. Law has a plan and can be one of the better tactical fighters on the worst generation. Luffy has the same rashness of Kid but is better on knowing when to fight and if that doesn't calm him, his crew will know better and call him out. RIP Kid
I noticed Kidd's face right after his crew handed over the poneglyphs. He has the same eyes as Luffy when Kaido one-shutted him in Wano. He is unconscious, but he is still starring Shanks down

Yeah, there are moments where Luffy is still the same reckless goofball we've journeyed with for 1079 chapters and yeah there are instances of plot armor here and there. However, Luffy has been humbled time and time again because those same reckless tendencies, its why you don't see him winning fights with major antagonists the first round as often as east blue and the reason why he and his crew didn't just meet back up after the three days and head to the new world. Kidd though... i don't think at any point before the new world had ever been confronted with any threat that Kidd couldn't just steamroll and thus had an inflated sense of ego because of it compared to how Luffy was confronted with needing to get stronger or risk losing his friends. Well. Yeah. His philosophy is: If you want to threaten someone, just do it. But be prepared. If you are ready to kill, be ready to be killed. Basically, He'll let you go as long as you don't pass his line and then he'll straight up kill you.
The question isn't "wow look how strong Shanks is, can Luffy beat him?", it's "OMG how strong was Whitebeard meant to be in his prime if he was the strongest man in the world!?!"

I don't think he's dead. Shanks got more of a "I'll knock you out but keep you alive" kind of vibe. Blackbeard has that "I don't gaf who you are, I'll kill you even if you are weak" vibe. The difference between Shanks and BB is the fact Shanks would want to square up with someone fully healed while BB wouldn't gaf if you're healed or not.
Yeah maybe 1% chance he is dead. This is just good for Kidd in the long run most likely. He will just train and get a lot stronger. The fear now is blackbeard and kidd may kill shanks.

If Blackbeard got 3 personalities or have 3 persons inside of him or 3 hearts or whatever, the only reason in my opinion that Shanks got his scars is that he saw different future or he saw 3 futures to the point that he didn't know what's gonna happen.
Katakury can see 3 seconds in the future, it was already mentioned. And Kidd said it will take him 10 seconds to do what he's about to do, so that implies that shanks can see 10 seconds into the future, now is that all shanks can see or can he see further but only needed to see 10 seconds before seeing what kidd did is the real question we should be asking, but I hope this clarify things up
Shanks is the strongest pirate in the world katakuri is fodder. Shanks is probably at least 30x greater, maybe 50x greater than katakuri going by the difference between luffy who was relative to katakuri in whole cake and luffy who beat kaido easily and is still below shanks by a lot. Shanks says he can get the OP any time. It's casual to him despite the defeat of Kaido level luffy whose dream is to get it

Luffy then beat 100% of kaido and is still far below Shanks who doesn't even consider that Luffy could be an obstacle to him gaining the One Piece. Meaning Shanks should work out to be dozens of times greater than Katakuri at bare minimum lmfao

I haven't read the chapter yet but I feel like the defeat of Big Mom and Kaido was sort of a wake up call for Shanks. He knows Blackbeard is obviously looking for advantage and the WG is looking for advantage and then there is the Revolutionary Army and the Worst Generation pirates. Someone is bound to come after him next and he can't afford to get cocky (where did that lead Kaido and Big Mom?). He is being serious now.
Kid having the power to wipe out a fleet is very impressive. Shanks even tells his Commanders not to underestimate Kid but him getting 1 shotted is disappointing. Let this be a reminder how powerful advanced conquerers is. Luffy got knocked out several times & Law did too by Kaido.
I think it’s cute that Shanks’ relationship with his subordinate crews is pretty much the same as Luffy’s. It would be cool to be see a flashback that mirrors the sake exchange from the end of Dressrosa where Shanks rejects a strict crew hierarchy in favor of a mutual “When you’re in trouble and need help, call us and we’ll always back you up” structure.
Luffy fleet is actually very strong. Once you got giant in your fleet the whole battle could be shifted by only deploying them. That's how strong the giants are
Also, just a thought, with seeing how what Shanks can do and the fact that he had trouble with Blackbeard only makes what Blackbeard can do EVEN MORE terrifying!
Looking back shanks has always kept tabs on black beard. He tried to warn white beard. The only person up until marineford that understood how dangerous black beard is was shanks. This makes me think Law is in way over his head.
I feel like Blackbeard has some strange observation ability that can either negate or confuse Shanks’. Like maybe he can “cloud” the observation of others or make them see something different than what’s actually happening.

Now I'm sure that when Shanks arrives to where Barto and his crew was, he would honestly chuckle than putting him down. Barto was handing them pins and probably didn't hurt anybody. @@Cmqndlr I think the Straw Hat grand fleet is above the Red Hair fleet. Their captains match up to Big Mom's lower tier kids and Beast pirate headliners. Barto for the most part can survive on his own, Shanks is singlehandedly keeping his fleet alive by having them fly his flag.

However I can only see 3 or 4 SH fleet captains that can mess with Yonko commander level pirates (cavendish(strongest SH fleet captain), Barto, Sai and Hajrudin) other than them the other SH grandfleet is only good for fighting the mediocre members of other yonko crews. As for Barto's crew they are indeed an anomaly surviving the new world just off of the knowledge of Barto's granny to keep their ship afloat lol. Barto is indeed a fighter with high upside but that alone isnt enough to survive the new world..

Not sure if we'll ever learn if this kind of strength is why Kaido backed off going to Marineford, but now that we know more about how Shanks fights, Kaido could have been bought off too. In my opinion I came to the thought and realization that Kidd got his comeuppance. As Shakky said and how Kidd was introduced he took a bloody path to Sabaody archipelago which also involved citizens. Sure Kidd got smacked in the New World and by the time we meet him and his crew they're at their worst and seemed humanized. I really like shanks' allied Fleet, you get whitebeard and his super powerful allies, and the straw hat grand fleet set your expectations for the massive power and then shanks just has his drinking buddies, and friends that he probably made back from his days with Roger
Oda created the super nova's at the last minute, so I guess they're quite disposable because it doesn't really impact the ending of the story Oda had planned from the beginning. So with that in mind of getting rid of Kidd this way was a brilliant way to showcase Shank's strength and imply Mihawks strength and where Luffy and Zoro are headed from this point forward.
Not all Supernovas. Oda saw value in Law and brought him to deuteragonist levels of development in Dressrosa, as well as the important mission of finding more about one of the series' greatest mysteries in Wano. The question here is whether Oda will find more value in Kid as he did with Law.

Kidd was too over confident/zealous after Wano. He thinks of himself as Yonko level cause he participated, forgetting how much Law and others did to achieve victory. We were always privy to the fact Kidd was always a shitty person, being overtly ruthless and hurting anyone in his path so Shanks just fucking dunking on him, one shotting a big name pirate using a move with the same name as Roger's moves was awesome imo. Them then getting blown up by Dorri/Brogi while the crew calls for mercy is poetic to the first chapter with the whole "dont put your life on the line if you dont mean it". Kidd definitely knew the risk and i would be disappointed if this turns out in One Piece fashion not to be their end. It fits well with Kidd's arc, we knew he was a contender for Pirate King, and he wanted to challenge Shanks for it. Him getting obliterated and that being the end of him would honestly be fitting

And if being imprisoned by Kaido didn't take his dignity, I doubt anything will. But it may lead to some interesting character development. Something Kid is in dire need of IMO. The way that Shanks jumping off Kid's ship was portrayed makes me think he grabbed the poneglyph etchings and Kid before jumping off. It looks deliberately obscured. If he took the offer of the poneglyphs for Kid's life, he isn't so dishonarable that he would just let Kid drown. And I can see no reason for him not to take the offer.

Shanks has been very consistent, he was peacefully willing to give Kid an out even after they were aiming to pick a fight with the Red Force proper. But when Kid declared himself as outright willing to go out all and put weaker people in harms way Shanks had no mercy. All the way back in Chapter 1 this has been his personality, he'll take the shame and abuse if he can keep his allies safe, but hurt them and you die.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time we’ve ever seen an important character’s ship just utterly destroyed by someone else, that seems like a metaphor for just how heavy of a defeat this is. Losing their Poneglyphs and Ship just seems like a Sabaody Archipelago level reset for the Kidd Pirates. If they are going to continue to be a part of the story, they’re gonna damn near need a timeskip.

I absolutely love this video tekking. Hypeness overload aside, you really dug deeper on how this single chapter described Shanks as a character. He truly showed us why Roger gave him the straw hat when he was younger. He did not just inherited Roger's strength (pertaining to his first ever named move Divined departure) but also his values as an honorable pirate.
Dorry and Broggy were also fairly vicious here. I did appreciate how Shanks wasnt willing to kick Kid while he was down though. He did try and double check that Kid had recovered from Wano first.

This really made me think of what Crocodile said back in Impel Down. How there was "No shortage of 'silver medalists' shedding tears just because they couldn't overcome Whitebeard and Roger" and I feel like that is Kidd. Shanks' actions are understandable, but also keep in mind that the one scar he has that's both on his face and on his jollyroger was given to him by a dishonorable scheming pirate that went after people he cared about and had respect for. If there is anything he can do to prevent another Blackbeard from rising to power I'm sure he wouldn't even hessitate.
Shanks asking about Blackbeard and how he was expecting him to show up at Wano is also a great explanation for why Shanks even showed up there when he just chased Green Bull away. He's actively looking to interrupt Blackbeard's plans, whatever they might be.

We as the reader expected him to Arrive after he conversation. With Moria but he played the field and divide and conquer he would of had to. Face 4 opponents instead of picking them of one by one now he has the same amount of poneglys with less effort.

One thing I think is relevant for people comparing Shanks to Big Mom and Kaido: Although I think Shanks is stronger than those two (for narrative reasons, he is a "later boss" than they are), I don't think the difference is that immense, but Shanks doesn't have the nigh-invulnerability that those two had. Which means he has to be much faster and have a much higher offensive power, and I think thats what fucked Kid. He took a weapon made out to fight either a lot of people or really big people, but that was useless against someone who relies on impossible speed and one-shot level attacks.

I’m not sure if he’s seeing a specific amount of time into the future or if he’s basically just seeing a potential scene from the future based on current conditions. Remember, future sight isn’t really “seeing the future” it’s predicting it based on current parameters. It’s basically instinct on steroids. Otherwise Kid would have succeeded in blowing up the allied ships if shanks’s future sight was accurate to the future. So shanks is just so finely tuned in his observation haki that he can tell the potential effects of his opponents moves well in advance, as soon as he feels the opponent getting ready to do them.
Also I’m not sure if this extends to everything. Kid was doing a charged move. If he had instead fired all cannons at once, I doubt shanks could predict where every single cannonball would go, no amount of instinct can do that. But shanks is still mad impressive for being significantly above katakuri in observation while having the strength to oneshot kid.
Idk what people were expecting, Kidd went from barely surviving against a Yonkou with help from Law (and they didn't even kill her, just sent her underground) , to challenge an entire Yonkou crew and alliance by himself. Even Luffy wouldn't do such stupid thing.

This is the outcome I expected, but didn't think we'd actually get. Kid felt extra cocky leaving Wano, but I don't think he realized how much help he had along the way. He needed to be humbled, but Shanks decided to end his career instead. If he went in with a level head instead of charging up his special beam cannon, he might've lasted a little long. I wonder what Oda will do with him in the future, cause things don't seem too good for Law either.

When we see the story of One Piece from Luffy or Kidd's POV, it feels like both of them takes it as a game where they just defeat the stronger enemy in the storyline sequence and gets stronger themselves and after defeating the enemies, they just forget about them and gets to the next fun quest they can get.
Shanks' POV makes us feel that, theres actually more going on in the world than just taking big strong pirates down and keep going forward to get the treasure. There are people under Shanks' protection whom he needs to think about, he knows he needs to keep up with the state of the world politics since he is an influential person, he has the wisdom and the code of honor that in a fight or competition where both the opposing sides must give their 100% to come out with the righteous results. He is calm headed, he analyses the situation and treats his allies and friends with respect and love.
The story seems so matured from Shanks' POV all over. He truly is a character who deserves the hype and favor of the fans.

From what I could tell Kid was not raised by the code of honorable pirates. He was much like the bull he made to snap Big Mom's arm; ever charging forward to his fate. I have a feeling he knew he was going to die but he wanted to go out in a way that felt right to him.
In regards to Kids devil fruit awakening, I think it’s implied he was using it because one of the panels the ships say something like “does it feel like we’re being pulled in?” Just before shanks makes his move
But Kid's awakening only seems to just let him apply a magnetic field to other non-mangentic objects or people.
Remember right before the Onigashima Raid, when Luffy, Kid, and Law destroyed a ship together? Kid used his magnetic power to pull himself to the ship, meaning that ships should be magnetic enough for his basic power to work on.
I assumed that was the case, damned punk seems more like a plasma cannon that uses the electric fields of magnets as power than a railgun since its always drawn as a continuous beam
A little correction about the attack Kid was doing, he did have enough time to charge the attack to the point that the ships were getting pulled in. At that point, anyone could tell something bad was going to happen, but that's just a testament to how early Shanks detected a disaster before it even got to that point. Poor Kid may have gotten obliterated, but at least he was able to charge it a little.
I'd like to believe Kid only had enough time to charge it because Shanks was telling everyone to move.

At least we know a soft side of shanks, seeing how he taken in weaker pirates and put them in his protection. This chapter alone destroyed the "evil shanks" theory as a whole, even in the worst case scenario it's still probably a "gray personality shanks" rather than evil. I mean it's kinda obvious for a lot of people but with evidence it's getting clearer
Personally, I was never a fan of the evil Shanks theory. Of course, part of that seemed to be because a few of the people who suggested that theory (that I could see anyway) did so because they can't see a reason why someone would become as powerful as Shanks and not utilize this power for some grand goal. As odd as it may sound, I have encountered some people in fiction who have had a lot of power yet never had the slightest interest in developing a use for that power.
As one of them stated, they fight against others purely to get what they need to survive and always have even if it means killing whoever gets in the way of that. It just so happened in that case that this character was hated by the more evil individuals of the world because a majority of the people who have gotten in their way and died tend to be evil individuals who usually went after this character either for the fame of defeating them, or just the enjoyment of killing. It had nothing to do with any moral stance on this character's part and they later stated that they would pass on their power to whoever passed their tests to do so regardless of any moral shortcomings that individual may have. Their argument was that progress (and the inevitability of them passing on their powers) was what had to prevail and that takes precedence over any evil that may be done with those powers. So, in their words that character is not good or evil, just indifferent for most of the series regarding the world outside of matters pertaining to their successor and their inevitable passing.
Insane chapter. Shanks is the type to go full power in the beginning and end it in a flash. As he foresee his friends getting hurt if kid attacks, he went ham on kid before he had a chance to react.

I am glad you highlighted the facts that Shanks try to avoid confrontation as much as possible first by asking whether he is still wounded or not and read info about Kid past behaviours. Most people did not get it and think it is not fair for Shanks did that to Kid. From the introduction at Shabaody, it was given info that Kid was a ruthless jerk who did not mind killing innocent people because of simple mockery.

Luffy has the same rashness of Kid but is better on knowing when to fight and if that doesn't calm him, his crew will know better and call him out.

However, Luffy has been humbled time and time again because those same reckless tendencies, its why you don't see him winning fights with major antagonists the first round as often as east blue and the reason why he and his crew didn't just meet back up after the three days and head to the new world. Kidd though... i don't think at any point before the new world had ever been confronted with any threat that Kidd couldn't just steamroll and thus had an inflated sense of ego because of it compared to how Luffy was confronted with needing to get stronger or risk losing his friends.

I don't think he's dead. Shanks got more of a "I'll knock you out but keep you alive" kind of vibe. Blackbeard has that "I don't gaf who you are, I'll kill you even if you are weak" vibe. The difference between Shanks and BB is the fact Shanks would want to square up with someone fully healed while BB wouldn't gaf if you're healed or not.
Yeah maybe 1% chance he is dead. This is just good for Kidd in the long run most likely. He will just train and get a lot stronger. The fear now is blackbeard and kidd may kill shanks.

Shanks is the strongest pirate in the world katakuri is fodder. Shanks is probably at least 30x greater, maybe 50x greater than katakuri going by the difference between luffy who was relative to katakuri in whole cake and luffy who beat kaido easily and is still below shanks by a lot. Shanks says he can get the OP any time. It's casual to him despite the defeat of Kaido level luffy whose dream is to get it

I haven't read the chapter yet but I feel like the defeat of Big Mom and Kaido was sort of a wake up call for Shanks. He knows Blackbeard is obviously looking for advantage and the WG is looking for advantage and then there is the Revolutionary Army and the Worst Generation pirates. Someone is bound to come after him next and he can't afford to get cocky (where did that lead Kaido and Big Mom?). He is being serious now.
Kid having the power to wipe out a fleet is very impressive. Shanks even tells his Commanders not to underestimate Kid but him getting 1 shotted is disappointing. Let this be a reminder how powerful advanced conquerers is. Luffy got knocked out several times & Law did too by Kaido.

I think it’s cute that Shanks’ relationship with his subordinate crews is pretty much the same as Luffy’s. It would be cool to be see a flashback that mirrors the sake exchange from the end of Dressrosa where Shanks rejects a strict crew hierarchy in favor of a mutual “When you’re in trouble and need help, call us and we’ll always back you up” structure.
Luffys fleet is actually strong though. Shanks just has weaklings riding off his clout

Luffy fleet is actually very strong. Once you got giant in your fleet the whole battle could be shifted by only deploying them. That's how strong the giants are

Looking back shanks has always kept tabs on black beard. He tried to warn white beard. The only person up until marineford that understood how dangerous black beard is was shanks. This makes me think Law is in way over his head.

Now I'm sure that when Shanks arrives to where Barto and his crew was, he would honestly chuckle than putting him down. Barto was handing them pins and probably didn't hurt anybody. And we all know that he's also a cinnamon roll, even his crew. He's just spreading the greatness of the SH and not really causing some trouble.

@@Cmqndlr I think the Straw Hat grand fleet is above the Red Hair fleet. Their captains match up to Big Mom's lower tier kids and Beast pirate headliners. Barto for the most part can survive on his own, Shanks is singlehandedly keeping his fleet alive by having them fly his flag.

However I can only see 3 or 4 SH fleet captains that can mess with Yonko commander level pirates (cavendish(strongest SH fleet captain), Barto, Sai and Hajrudin) other than them the other SH grandfleet is only good for fighting the mediocre members of other yonko crews. As for Barto's crew they are indeed an anomaly surviving the new world just off of the knowledge of Barto's granny to keep their ship afloat lol. Barto is indeed a fighter with high upside but that alone isnt enough to survive the new world..
When S-snake petrified York , she blew up the bridge and the straw hats fell down . She could’ve easily turned York back since nobody was around .
Petrified Yorke fell down as well though.

This chapter showed exactly why an admiral would back down at Marineford. Not sure if we'll ever learn if this kind of strength is why Kaido backed off going to Marineford, but now that we know more about how Shanks fights, Kaido could have been bought off too. Shanks would know how to get Kaido to turn around.
And of course this is the chapter where it's announced we have to deal with a week break too. Evil!

In my opinion I came to the thought and realization that Kidd got his comeuppance. As Shakky said and how Kidd was introduced he took a bloody path to Sabaody archipelago which also involved citizens. Sure Kidd got smacked in the New World and by the time we meet him and his crew they're at their worst and seemed humanized. But yeah he rushed headlong into what he didn't know what he was not ready for. Play stupid games win stupid prizes as they say.

Oda created the super nova's at the last minute, so I guess they're quite disposable because it doesn't really impact the ending of the story Oda had planned from the beginning. So with that in mind of getting rid of Kidd this way was a brilliant way to showcase Shank's strength and imply Mihawks strength and where Luffy and Zoro are headed from this point forward.

Not all Supernovas. Oda saw value in Law and brought him to deuteragonist levels of development in Dressrosa, as well as the important mission of finding more about one of the series' greatest mysteries in Wano. The question here is whether Oda will find more value in Kid as he did with Law.

Kidd was too over confident/zealous after Wano. He thinks of himself as Yonko level cause he participated, forgetting how much Law and others did to achieve victory. We were always privy to the fact Kidd was always a shitty person, being overtly ruthless and hurting anyone in his path so Shanks just fucking dunking on him, one shotting a big name pirate using a move with the same name as Roger's moves was awesome imo. Them then getting blown up by Dorri/Brogi while the crew calls for mercy is poetic to the first chapter with the whole "dont put your life on the line if you dont mean it". Kidd definitely knew the risk and i would be disappointed if this turns out in One Piece fashion not to be their end. It fits well with Kidd's arc, we knew he was a contender for Pirate King, and he wanted to challenge Shanks for it. Him getting obliterated and that being the end of him would honestly be fitting

Kinemon survived getting cut in half. Characters can have quite a lot of plot armor in this series. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Kid lived.

And if being imprisoned by Kaido didn't take his dignity, I doubt anything will. But it may lead to some interesting character development. Something Kid is in dire need of IMO.
The way that Shanks jumping off Kid's ship was portrayed makes me think he grabbed the poneglyph etchings and Kid before jumping off. It looks deliberately obscured. If he took the offer of the poneglyphs for Kid's life, he isn't so dishonarable that he would just let Kid drown. And I can see no reason for him not to take the offer.
