    I was a skate rat and video game fan of the 80’s, I never owned a real RC car and yet I love your videos! The engineering of these cars is really impressive (as is your deep understanding ). Love the 80’s vibe. Growing up I had friends lust over the Grasshopper. That was my limited understanding of the RC world. Also loved your Hornet vs Frog video. Thank you for making these !
    Btw, as a Dad of an 8 and 10 year daughters , I love how you make these with your kid!

    Really enjoyed this video. I wish I had a SuperShot. The camera work was excellent. My three favorite views were the one where your daughter panned around the track to follow the car (great work!), the view from up high where you could see most of the track, and the view from the camera mounted on the tripod showing the two jumps along the fences. Looking forward to seeing more cars running on your awesome track!

    Great comparison of these 2 iconic Tamiya 4WDs. I wonder if the lack of front anti sway bar on the Supershot affect the handling (less off power steering) compared to the Hotshot, hmmm? Anyway, time to rebuild mine after more than 40 years inside the box. Thanks for your video☺

    Ah, so history did repeat itself. When Losi made their 8ight 3.0, their intent was to make the car easier to drive, resulting in more consistent but slightly _slower_ lap times compared to the 8ight 2.0. While it wasn't necessarily a matter of switching from a fancy, overengineered setup to something simpler and more proven in that car's case, it was definitely a repeat of what happened with the Tamiya Hot Shot.
    I can see Hot Shots qualifying at higher positions while Super Shots end up placing better in mains.
    Anyway, when can we expect an Avante to grace your track? If and when you eventually get to that car you might want to do a shootout between two of them, one with the factory stock setup and one tuned to correct the vehicle's nasty habits, rather than putting it up against another model.

    • @VINTAGEBACKYARDRC
      @VINTAGEBACKYARDRC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Would agree...and on a imaginary race day situation...I would use the Super.
      I don't have an Avante unfortunately. That and a Astute are on my bucket list cars (especially the Astute). Hopefully some day I stumble into one.

      @@UlisesBatalla you should totally build it with your son, or find a new owner who also loves it. Then one day you can look back on the memories instead of a box of bits ... If you haven't built in a while there might be some swearing involved, and at eight years old the driving/crashing 🤕 might be more interesting than the building, but that's what *more* RC cars are for 😁

    • @UlisesBatalla
      @UlisesBatalla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Droidy77 I'm going to leave those two on the back burner. And the reason for that is that at this point in time, I noticed something snapped in my 8-year-old. He caught on to the fact that timaya recycles parts mixes them up and then comes out with another kit. That was like a light went on it's almost as if the wall were pulled from over his eyes it's like an epiphany that one has when you notice that to Maya recycles reuses reimagines parts and then comes up with new vehicles. It's always wonderful when there is a brand new, fully engineered, research and development buggy, car, truck or even a semi. Those two are going to stay on the back burner because at this point in time my black grasshopper too, is waiting for the 8-year-old to finish his Terra Nova Nova Terra Nova Fox.. the other issue is that my 6-year-old daughter cannot settle down and go with the white and pink that she has chosen for her re-released frog. Since I already had a black foot that I modified by changing the chassis adding some upgrades allowing it to perform a lot better it even has the chassis that is colored from a different kit. So what is going to happen is once she settles down and pics good old PS1 and whatever PS color fluorescent pink happens to be we will finish that buggy and all three of us will have are two wheel drive Fox frog and grasshopper. They're going to be identical right down to the vintage Futaba m c 210 speed controllers a Futaba s148 servo and a Futaba receiver that is almost as big as the servo. The gentleman from lightspeed gave me a wonderful price on three hand wound 19 turn double armatures that I stuffed into three of those really really cheap Chinese motors that you see on eBay.. sorry that this was such a long message
      Can anybody explain why they called it the Nova Fox and don't tell me just because the word Nova means new I understand that I'm Spanish and I know what the word means but, it really can't just be that!

    • @Droidy77
      @Droidy77 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UlisesBatalla the pink Frog or Neo Frog is a classic look! It sounds like you have "more RC cars" taken care of 🚙🏎️. Most people think they changed the name to Nova Fox because they didn't have permission to use Fox any more. Many decals changed from real racing sponsors to fake, made up names, and they had to make up a new buggy name, too.

    Love it. Been looking forward to this shootout. I love my Hot Shot and am NOT convinced that four-shocks is an “upgrade” ;) The engineering on the mono-shocks is so amazing and one can hardly believe that it actually works pretty well. I learned the off-power (over-steer)/on-power (under-steer) steering characteristics of this car pretty quick. I love how it snaps around corners if you come in fast and let off the throttle at the last second and then lay down the power on the exit. So much fun and super fast if you can get the timing right (which I manage about half the time, haha). Take care!

      Exactly how I learned to drive it! Only had like three practice laps before the shoot (did not want to destroy the car) and was shocked with the amount of steering. I had assumed the drag brake was set or something. Just how it drives. Super fun!

    • @schuttrostig5729
      @schuttrostig5729 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the 2 shocks in rear is a good upgrade, but they need to be set up with stronger dampening/pretension. Definetly sits to low without any spacers.
      At the front i like the boomerang suspension more, the 2 ears holding the front shocks are prone to damage.

    • @rcstories_ca
      @rcstories_ca 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@schuttrostig5729 From a performance perspective I would agree that two shocks offers more tune ability. But from a fun I-can’t-believe-it-actually-works perspective, I like the mono shocks. Thanks so much brother. It's absolutely the reason it takes us so long to put out running content. It's a ton of work trying to seamlessly string all the cameras together. Labor of love for sure. Currently flopping back and forth between Sony Vegas and Divinchi Resolve. For me the workflow is faster with Vegas but it crashes a lot...and I am constantly going backward during an edit. Divinchi has been rock solid (I just need to learn it). Our greatest challenge is equipment. In a perfect world, I would have all gopros and maybe a nice dslr. We have 2 gopros and 4 old cell phones....lol. Will always make what we have work. I have absolutely enjoyed learning how to do all the editing stuff. Always appreciate when someone wants to know more about the process.

But because I was so young I suffed up building one of the 2 shocks oil leaks so I did get the Hotshot Supershot upgrade suspension kit for it lol thought it made it handle better lol but no steering any more. I recon it might be because no front stabiliser on Supershot. I still have my Hotshot in bits 95% complete and I just got a Superhotshot for my 50 birthday lol and candy green Grasshopper reliving my childhood always wanted a Supershot sine I was a kid. Once again I love your videos. The Airwolf-style music is awesome.
    I really like the Hotshot - it was my dream RC car when I was a nipper and as soon as I got the bug again in middle age I got the re-release. It is such a sturdy platform; my son prefers it to the Grasshopper because he finds it so easy to drive - I think it's the understeery nature. I wish it was a little more loose, it benefits from a bit of torque to release the rear, and mine does not like hairpins...
    The one thing I really dig about the SuperShot is the full length bash plate; the hotshot's low ride height gives it s a lot of ground contact.
    Generally I find it is tougher than its reputation, but there's a machine screw threaded into that hexagonal nut that acts as a bumper stay, and i've pulled that out twice through various tree interactions (my fault) but i never broke the actual bumper...

I really love doing the music...and appreciate when people notice for sure! Thanks again my friend.

      Thanks brother...really appreciate it. The cam work is tough and slightly overwhelming at times...but the kid does a great job "marking" the cams before a run ( a few loud hand claps ) so we can sync them via audio during post. It's tough mixing the different formats and cell camera resolutions for the final render as well. For instance we could only go to 2k this time because of glitching in the final render. In an ideal world we would have a bunch of current go pros...but we simply can't afford that. Using Sony Vegas (I think it's 17) currently. Been amazing learning this stuff on the fly...wish I could do it as my real life job! I enjoy it that much.

      The factory cva shocks are actually really good. For my track... the spring balance and stock oil were a bit off. I assume the rere kits still come with the different internal shock pistons. Messing with them will change the pack and rebound internally, and you can also go with a thicker or thinner oil. Lots of information out there on rc shock tuning...and the stock shocks should work well with some tweaks to match your running surface. Hope you enjoy the build my friend. Great kit to pickup.

    • @VINTAGEBACKYARDRC

      Honestly not sure (have not tested). I ran them with the standard Tamiya damper oil ( whatever comes with a Frog rere) in both cars. Built the shocks to 80s stock "kit". Think If I was tuning it...I would look for a bit softer front spring and just tune from there. I ran way more laps with both cars than normally and the Hotshot was faster average lap as well. Same electronics and gearing. I will say if I had to bring one to a vintage race or something....it would be the Super Shot. With some tuning or simply adding more power....its gonna be faster no doubt.
