    I agree so much with many of the plants you mention, as I'm using them myself. I have two species of Syngonium in one of my setups. The type you showed has taken off and is threatening to take over the room. LOL I got my hands on a "pixie" variety that's staying super small and cute, though. Wonderful genus of plants.
    After watching your video on lighting, I added a light to one of my setups where the emergent plants were doing very poorly. I hope they'll bounce back and do great now. Time will tell.
    The tip about Fittonia is really helpful! I've been growing mine with the roots submerged. It's alive but definitely not thriving. I'll shift it so the roots are partially in and partially out of the water. Hopefully it'll be happier then.

    There are some cool variegated zebra plants (Aphelandra) that do well in the aquarium, and remind me a little of the fittonia (nerve plants) but not quite so bushy.

    Another interesting variegated pothos is Hawaiian Giant. It looks a lot like golden pothos but with good lighting the stems get thick and the leaves get enormous (and fenestrated).

      Yes I have been wanting to grow the giant Pothos, have you grown it in water?

    Excellent video as always, Andrew. I like having examples of things to try. I will seek these out for sure! Two plants I wonder about though: Aspidistra and snake plant. I own nice varigated versions of each but have never been confident enough to try them in the riparium. I think possibly they grow from tubers? But they seem like they would be very pretty, if they adapted.

      Thanks! Aspidistra and snake plan MIGHT work. Maybe grow them in substrate with roots not fully submerged. Go for it, see what happens!

    I actually have a question about types of plants. I have seen another TH-camr germinating and growing avocado seeds/trees in his betta tank. So i was wondering if we can grow vegetables also in our tanks like avocado trees, welsh onions, carrots or even other types of pound plants found out in the wild near some of us? Im in Southern California

      This would be a great project! I have not tried growing edibles in my tanks. I’m sure there are vegetables that will grow hydroponically in a tank like lettuce, water cress, purslane, and more I would think!

      @plantlifeproject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peace Lily, anthurium, some hygrophilas will blooms if you let them grow emergent, ruellias. I may have to do a video on this topic in the future. Most of my plants now are grown for the foliage

    What are great plants for dry desert area outside somewhat shaded area. I have a pond with a iris I don't remember what type and mint. The mint is growing fine the iris is decent. I want more ideas for my pond. Especially with my gold fish getting bigger out of hibernation.

      Umbrella sedge and papyrus come to mind , also equisetum (horsetail rush), creeping Jenny, Tropicanna canna Lily,
      Juncus, and if you have enough space, cattails. All of these are tough plants that can grow pretty much anywhere.

      @plantlifeproject  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I do this with my Pothos. They will not last forever in water but it’s fine for some leaves to be in the water
