      I really don’t think it’s about picking and choosing some rules over other rules. I just think it’s important for a person to feel comfortable to go out into the world. Some people do this by wearing makeup, and others feel like a veil protects them from other people’s energies and that makes them more comfortable. I think I just see it as a separate thing? Like no matter what religion you used to belong to, veiling is now separate from that religion and integrated into a new way of life.

    • @aubs965
      @aubs965 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@julieannelovesbooks sure it is separate but it can be related to your previous religion if you feel that connection of course. Some people will feel this way and some won't, but no matter why you veil, there are lots of benefits and reasons as to why someone would choose to veil

    It’s actually not inappropriate for non-Muslims to veil using hijab-style headscarves, since that style predates Islam and is worn by Christians, Jews, and pagans in different parts of the world. No religion has a monopoly on any one style of headscarf or wrap. In fact, February 1st is World Hijab Day, and many Muslims and non-Muslims set up booths to help people try on hijab to normalize the practice.

      My friends told me that I'd look beautiful in hijab, and taught me how to tie it. They said that while it had meaning to them that ot didn't have to have meaning for me.
      My muslim friends were some of the kindest religious people I've met.

    Hi, I'm now 54 and I have been a practicing Pagan since I was 16 and I usually cleanse my veils at the end of the day by hanging them in an open window so that the breeze can release the energy of the day from them. Great video and I love your crocheted veils too. Fip.

    I am an extremely sensitive witch, and I'm new to the practice. I tried veiling (using a bandana bc my family wouldn't say anything abt it) and I found that it increased a positive mood within myself greatly. I would like to veil more often, even on extremely sensitive or drained days using a long scarf, but I'm too scared of what people would say, and especially scared of me wearing one being cultural appropriation. The last thing I would want is to offend people. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do?

    • @featherghost1085
      @featherghost1085 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi!! I know I'm kind of late, but this may be of help. It's not cultural appropriation as long as you wear it in a way that isn't specific to a religion or anything like that.if you wanna be sure about not having cultural appropriation, If you research hippie ways to wear a bandana as a headscarf, you can be sure that it's not cultural appropriation, because if not the hippy style would be frowned upon constantly, and I've never heard anyone saying bad stuff about how they wear them.

    • @th-ck9vl
      @th-ck9vl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Get an infinity scarf and just let the bottom hang so it looks like a big O hanging from your head. Literally nobody but hippies do that so nobody would think twice and question it. Also, look at some 50's headwraps, or whatever culture your family comes from, if you're American. Pretty much every country has its own style, and even shared styles.
      I feel the same way and I'm wondering how it works. I don't understand how a piece of cloth can have so much power to it. I don't really believe it keeps energy contained or from being extended. Because, I mean it's cloth lol. So, I wonder why and how it works.

    I had a lot of Muslim friends in my circles in college, and I've never met a Muslim woman who was offended by the idea of non-Muslims wearing a hijab (the specific cut of cloth intended for modesty) or trying it out for a non-religious reason. I often wore hijab when I went with them to Muslim spaces and just as a social thing to understand how they're viewed in the world. Islam is all about respect, non-judgement, and personal choices. What makes it hijab is not the cut of cloth itself but rather the intention it is worn for: obedience, modesty, and/or protection from the gaze of society - just like the tradition of veiling in Pagan and witchy tradition. So if you want to veil using a longer piece of fabric designed for use as a hijab, the general consensus (at least amongst hijabis and Muslim women as a whole that I've met in my experience!) is that you can go right ahead! It's widely considered appreciation, not appropriation.

    • @gordonramsayslambsauce
      @gordonramsayslambsauce 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yes! However, if you wear something as a hijab, it's respectful to cover up while doing it. Ie. don't wear shorts and a t-shirt when wearing one. It can be considered disrespectful :) Also, the way an Islamic person explained it to me was that, in their religion, women/women-aligned people are supposed to wear hijabs, not JUST Muslim women. Therefore, it's okay for anyone to wear a hijab besides men (of course men can veil, the women/enby only rule is for Islam). I may be wrong, correct me if I am ofc

      @@gordonramsayslambsauce there are Greek styles of veiling similar to modern hijab styles that can be worn with basically anything. The style is just a loose scarf drapped on the head with an end thrown over the shoulder-- usually exposes parts of the neck and chest. Most Muslims wouldn't consider that close to hijab unless there are clothes underneath that covers the skin.

    • @th-ck9vl
      @th-ck9vl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In some countries, it doesn't matter where you're from. It's the law to wear one, or at the very least socially required. As in you don't have to but you'll be considered rude.

    I didn’t realize I was veiling for awhile, but I for sure knew I felt more comfortable under my scarf! It wasn’t until I started attending my temple that this practice really opened up to me in various forms. I’ve become a lot more aware and conscious of my hair and the energy it holds since having dread locks for a couple years too. I love learning more on this topic, especially from different perspectives! I was hoping you’d share more on yours, so thank you very much! I love what you said about untying the knots, I definitely leave mine in often. Blessings to you! 🧚🏻‍♀️🤍

    Hats *can* be worn in replacement of a scarf/bandana type of veil if it feels right for you. I do this with a loose beanie type of hat instead of a those because they tend to slip off my head more. As an empath and someone who has a lot of anxiety as well as suffers from migraines and too much stimulation around me, I can say first hand that this makes a huge difference! I can’t explain it, but even just wearing a pair of sunglasses on the top of my head or just a simple cloth headband (the thin/flat, but wide elastic kind meant for working out or wearing for when you’re washing your face to keep the hair out of your face) helps! I used to not be able to go out in public without forcing myself into tunnel vision due to social anxiety and suffer from migraines that would drag on for a week at a time. When doing what I mentioned instead, I feel a lot more focused, a lot more confident as well as not anywhere near as stressed out as without something on my head! I think this is why I practically live in oversized hoodie sweatshirts because I feel more comfortable with a hood on my head. The over size also makes me feel like I’m constantly being gently hugged in a way that calms me as well. I know that’s besides the head ceiling point, but up until I started doing more research into this, I never put all of these things together. Like I said, I can’t explain it why it makes a huge difference, but it does, especially for me. I almost feel like I’m a whole different person when I wear something on my head. It’s like wearing a cap to all my emotions that would otherwise just be let loose and feel all over the place. Looking back, it all clicks now, for me personally, as to why I was always wearing a hat when I was much younger growing up in a household that had higher stress levels than a typical childhood household and when my anxieties got worse along the way of not wearing anything at all on my head as I got older.
    I honestly feel as well that we need to stop saying don’t do this/that/that doesn’t work/isn’t allowed in terms of witchcraft or just doing what feels right to us in general. If it works/feels right, then just do it that way. It’s nice to bounce ideas off of each other to learn something new, but we truly limit ourselves when we say things like ‘that doesn’t count’ and can make some believe that they’re doing it ‘wrong’ even if there was such a thing. This is one of the reasons why I left my craft many years ago because I felt like it had to be done a certain way. After many years of finding my way back to it all, I have learned that there is no one way. There’s no wrong way. And that being different is ok especially if it works for you! Just go out there and do it that way! I wouldn’t ever tell anyone that they’re…in so many words, doing a personal spiritual practice wrong because it’s not up for me to decide what’s right/wrong for someone else especially coming from a place where we’re practicing something that already stems solely off of other practices that are made up from someone else further down the line somewhere in history.
    Hope none of that came off as harsh or rude, because that’s not my intention. I’m glad you’re spreading info about things like this, but we just need to keep an open mind about we share that info keeping in mind that we’re not all on the same path. Also, it’s important to also keep in mind for others out there to take what you want from these messages and leave the rest of it doesn’t work for you. Had someone told me years ago that veiling (or any other spiritual personal practice) is only done a certain way, it would have driven me further away from this path.

    • @AnotherSkyTV
      @AnotherSkyTV ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, hoodies and beanies work just fine. They don't look as cute as a scarf, though. But you have tomboy vibes instead 😆.
      I think hats actually had some meaning to them historically too, that was lost, so idk if saying that only scarves work is true.

    its funny that folks now put the term "veiling" to describe just covering your head. I understand that sometimes it is intentionally done for spiritual purposes.. but I have been a Pagan for over 30 years.. and it wasn't a "thing" that folks did. Yet I found out about the use of head scarves in Tantric and other yogic practices to "contain the energy" from your crown chakra. That made sense and I have desired to cover my head more and more but it does feel Socially "weird" (espcially to wear to work) and with current PC environmennt and accusations of "cultural appropriation" it makes it awkward. Although it shouldn't be. No one should be able to dictate to any other why they choose to wear a scarf upon their head.. If it is for spiritual OR even modesty reasons.. Or even wearing one cause you are having a bad hair day!". I will admit, that this past year My hair has become unruly and I am tired of managing it.. I do feel more comforted when I put a scarf on. I Feel the energetic calming and I am more focused.. so I am going to find some nice ones to wear that HOPEFULLY no one will say "why are you wearing that???" ... (that can be exhausting to answer to societal conventions.. If it looks NICE and not ratty.. or it looks "professional" (rather than wearing just a bandana within the office enviornment" WHO CARES!!! Peace

    • @AuraoftheForest
      @AuraoftheForest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be a way of protection! Native Americans speak positive affirmations and love for themselves and family while braiding their hair. Hair has a lot of spiritual energy and spending time caring for it with intention would be great!

    I’ve been curious about starting veiling. I was wondering if you have to veil in every situation. Sometimes I feel like my energy is being taken by others around me. It makes me feel overwhelmed, and drained. But other people I’m with they don’t drain my energy, they boost it. Do you have to veil all the time, or could it work with veiling in select situations?
    Also… your bandannas are gorgeous! That green one is stunning!!

    just started veiling and researching as much as I can about it. I've found veiling helps me feel safe, protected, and less open to the negative energies around me. I don't know if it's weird but energy is always poring in and out through my head and I can never keep it closed. A veil has actually helped keep that protected so much.
