- Winter steelhead season is finally here, and I hit the river solo for a cold, rainy float in search of my first fish of the year. The bite was tough, but after putting in the work, I finally hooked into a beautiful winter steelhead! Everything was going smoothly-until an epic net fail nearly cost me the fish. Watch as I scramble to land this chrome beauty and kick off the season in the best (and most chaotic) way possible!

Everyone has. Netting alone while fighting a steelie from a boat, no less, is challenging to begin with. Bottom line is you captured it! Well done!
A good angler is adaptive, I’d say you fished the perfect rod for each spot!

Not a snob . Glad you caught a fish. I have yet to get one. Been just swinging. Going to mix it up with an indicator and bead on my 7 wt switch rod . Patient man I am but it is nice to get a boost of a fish😁
It is a great feeling, congrats on getting out there, I hope you land some soon. Keep swinging it will pay off. I’m going to start dedicating swing only trips here soon. The only way to get one on the swing is to keep swinging . Good luck and let me know if you hook up .

are u in southern oregon? Also great video man really enjoyed watching it maybe one day we will have to get together and u can teach me more about swinging flies i just got a single hander 8wt i use with a SA anadro indicator line ive considered getting a second spool and line for it for a heavier shooting line or the OPST commando head

I’m not sure maybe it’s tradition like firefighters have mustaches.
