I really love the Mirror's Edge franchise, but both games have huge flaws. The first one is glitchy and suffers from a really, really short length, a ton of cut content and awful combat, although i know all of this happened thanks to EA restraining budget and time from the project. Catalyst, on the other hand, suffers from a huge casual-fication of the game, with overused gaming cliches such as open-world and level up system, a horrible story and bland level design. It's a shame, the game had a lot of potential for fixing what the first one did wrong... At least the first game has a rather growing modding community, whom could be bigger if there were better modding tools for it. I hope Catalyst doesn't suffer the same fate.
the first game was a "git gud" kind of game. no replay value unless you like challenge, and when ME1 came out gamers wanted everything but the challenge. for the second game they went for the "let's make people want to keep playing our game" kind of approach, so they added social features, an openworld with a lof of time-consuming stuff in it, races , a stupid skill tree, and literally erased the challenge factor from the story missions. I'm not against the openworld in MEC, I think it might be one the of few recent games where it actually makes sense, cause you can run around and jump like an idiot for hours... the problem is the skill try is stupid and forced , the story mission were foolproof and not that good to begin with, and also I hate to say this but the OST is not as good as the original.
They tried to leverage the marketability from ME1, and as a result made ME2 "easier" to increase sales. It would make sense, giving the dumbing down effects of modern gaming. Upcoming young gamers are a huge market that developers can't afford to isolate. Back in the day we would play the shit out of a difficult game without giving up. That mindset is a rarity nowadays.
Dear everybody a great guy by the name of jamie davies said get the chrome addon AudioEQ and set the thing to mono and it will make your right ear have sound aswell as your left and work perfectly thx so much jamie you da man
teh OVERL0RD you're not bad at the game. This guy has probably spent a ton of hours learning and practicing the game. If you practice a lot, you should be able to beat the game quicker too.
Mat himself has mentioned that he does exactly what you do in his casual playthrough. In ovendonkey's run of the first Mirror's Edge a few years ago, he mentioned that the ME runners that have their names known in the scene have generally spent at least a thousand hours exclusively on just practicing tricks and shaving off seconds.
I feel like a lot of the commentary for this game was "So you fun fact you can actually do [Insert glitch/skip] here and get to another part of the level but then a checkpoint wont trigger." Which really must suck for the community of this game.
Theres actually forced anti-aliasing in catalyst which makes the game look super fuckin blurry, with a quick config edit though the game is no longer blurry and it looks leagues better.
Can we appreciate just how cool the idea of Mirror's Edge is? Such a unique design, soundtrack, and concept. It's just a shame it didn't sell better.

I just hate the way that Catalyst looks, like, the art style is fantastic, but it looks so blurry and muddy compared to the first game
