Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a couple of spare mattresses set on end to eliminate unwanted sound reverberations.
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale v26 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com

This song reminds me of why I am a Christian, in moments when I am discouraged. It reminds me of why I believe in Christ, though now I am hated by all because of Him. Because He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood. He loved me ere I knew Him, and so all my love is due Him.

If you put the playback speed to 0.75, it's pretty close to what I'm used to singing. All in all, still such a great hymn.

Most of the song leaders in my church are doing mostly contemporary stuff, and I get tired of it. I want some good old fashioned gospel glory, and this song is the epitome of that kind of music. Uplifting. Energetic. Encouraging. Triumphant. Amen!

My dad cries a little every time he sings this. It was the first song he ever sang when Jesus got a hold of him and broke a hardcore meth addiction. i get a bit teary eyed as well, its a bit strange seeing a tattoo covered man weep at a song(and the song gets at me because of the situation it was written in)

Wow, I’ve never heard the original rhythms like that. Maybe because it’s a faster tempo? I like it, though. With those low A(?) notes, I thought for sure that was your dad singing!! Nicely done. 😀
I have been to many a church that does not sing the notes as written. Lol. I appreciate that you always sing it here on this channel as it is written.
By the way, initially it sounded a little fast to me, but that is probably because I switched over from watching videos about autosocks. LOL. Overall, I think the tempo is good. It just seems pretty quick with the 16th notes that I’m not used to hearing. :-)

Hello. My dad and I have been doing worship services online for 3 weeks now since the coronavirus outbreak. We're having a hard time following accompaniment and in need of actual singing as our guide when we sing hymns so we don't get "lost." If we pay the $0.25 for the audio files, would it be alright to play them in the background during our worship online? Either way, praise God for these videos of yours. For some reason, my church likes to modify the line "Beyond the crystal sea" in the third verse where instead of singing the written rhythm, the songleader replaces the written music with the music used with the line "His redeeming blood" in the chorus.

Good song, but the words are different than how we sing it. In the second verse when he says, "I then obeyed His blest commands And gained the victory," we always said, "And somehow Jesus came and brought To me the victory." Kinda changes the meaning doesn't it? Brings up the whole "faith vs works" argument. Still though, good song.
@@acappellahymns Just a little talk with Jesus is all there is that can make everything alright. Everything must be made alright before you can even obey the Lord's command. Baptism is the answer of a good conscience, not what you do in order to get a good conscience.

Hello Daniel. On most of these recordings, record over myself. Some of them have my family or friend on them.

Tempo is up to whoever is singing it I guess. I don't mind it a bit slower. But nothing wrong with a quick tempo as well. ( :
@@acappellahymns you're correct, but some songs are written to be sung fast, and some slower. I know, because I've written quite a few gospel songs.
Sometimes the message is more easily heard when the song is sung at the proper speed. Imagine if you sang "Softly and Tenderly" at a fast tempo. The message would be contradicted.
With that being said, you still catch my ear with your talent.
You're right! Many songs sound better slow and many sound better fast. Think of this channel as more of a template for others' use and not a definitive resource for all things tempo. ( :

How do you determine the BPM to do each song at?
Loved the song til I heard your version! Too quick, as if you’re in a very great hurry to get thru it!
Speed can be a difficult thing to get perfect in a recording. If I ever re-record this one, I think I'd prefer to slow it down a bit as well.
Not bad, but I learned to sing that song a little bit slower than this tempo.
