Interesting, none of the instruments, bass drum, snare or high hat are playing all four basic beats in the measure. The high hat is playing at twice the beat (two times for each beat) and as Mike said the snare is playing every other beat (2 beats per measure) and the bass drum is also playing two beats per measure but the two beats that the snare is not playing. Never thought of it like that but I'll bet if one of the drums were playing all four beats it would be pretty boring sounding! For the record.. guitarist here, I just listen to the drummer and go by what he's playing!
