Cuz it's a bad video title. It's like asking, can you still get around town in a 4 cylinder car? They're literally still releasing cards for AM4 sockets. He should really consider a different title. "Gaming on AM4 in 2024: how good is it?" Or something that isn't such a silly and immediately answerable question. The question doesn't make me want to watch because I know the answer. And most people probably feel that way too.
Still like that channel tho. Good channel

because its stupid and the answer is obvious

    • @Ghennesph

Maybe it's because it compares a quadcore from the 1000 series to 6core and up from subsequent series without explanation?
Or maybe because it asks a really stupid question in the title that isn't really representative of the video as a whole.

Awesome video and great benchmarks. I had first gen Ryzen 7 1700 when it first launch and it was a little lacking at first, however, looking back it was a great beginning to a great platform. I upgraded to the Ryzen 5 5600 and its been running games strong every since. The best part is I still have my original MSI B350 tomahawk motherboard from 2017 ( and it still gets bios updates from time to time)! It is just incredible that they have managed to keep the same platform going for so long, and they just launched new AM4 CPU's. I was debating on upgrading to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D but thanks to your benchmark it looks like there isn't a ton of difference from the 5600, so I might save up for AM5.

Seeing prices here in Belgium ... If your on a 1000 euro or less budget, i still would go am4 with a 5600x or 5700x or maybe an X3 variant.
I still don't see the appeal of spending 200 more on a ddr5 system seeing pricing here.
I recently build a system for my girlfriend with a 5700x, 32 gb of ram and a rx 7600 and she plays everything she trows at it @ 1080p

Still have a 1700 running on a spare rig. Paired it with an old HD7850 and 32GB of RAM (two DIMMS) and a SSD. Works fine for 60fps 1080p games (medium to low settings). Depending on your expectations first gen Ryzen is still viable. Windows 11 restrictions are not a concern with current hacks available.
What does surprise me is the power usage. The 1700 was a very efficient CPU at the time (especially compared to AMD's previous Bulldozer arc) but compared to Zen2 and Zen3 CPUs it's a very power hungry and somewhat ineficiente CPU. Under Cinebench the 1700 uses more power than the 3600 I also have while being a bit slower in both multi and single threads.

    I upgraded from a 1300x to a 5600 back in 2022, still rockin' a B350 which makes the cheap Intel A750 I found, a good match for both CS2 & BG3 medium 1440p.

I still use a Ryzen 5 2600 that I bought back in 2020 as an upgrade from an Athlon 200GE. Paired with an RX 6600, I am still amazed that I can play current AAA games mostly at 60+ fps, at medium graphics settings. I am thinking about getting a new processor this year, probably the new Ryzen 7 5700 (non-X) that will be coming out this month, or those fancy Ryzen 5000 X3D chips if its available here in the Philippines. It blows my mind to think that I am still rocking an A320 motherboard that I bought way back in 2018. Long live the AM4!

Do NOT buy the "new" 5700 because it is just cut-down version of the 5700X with LESS cache. 5700X = 36MB, 5700 = 20MB so it will have lower performance. You can buy used 5700X/5600 or wait for "new" 5700X3D. Just please don't buy 5700..

I had noticable %1 issues on 3600 paired with 6700 xt on 1440p. 5600 did not exactly solve my problem either after and before I have upgraded to 7800xt.
All depends on what type of games you play but anything above 70 series will be cpu bottlenecked.

I have a Ryzen 7 5700x and it's not the 3D version. I also have an RTX 4070 Ti Super. I'm fairly satisfied with it but I definitely need a better CPU cooler so I can overclock a bit. I have an old Hyper 212 Evo that I lost the mounting parts to and I had to improvise to get it installed. It works but overclocking isn't an option like that.

Since i got into the habit of playing 'new games' somewhere between 2-5 years after their release, when they are affordable, i think my 3700x can still go for quite some time in 1440p. Maybe down the line 5800x3d is the way to squeeze maximum value out of the Motherboard :)

I have a 5800X3D and it seems to handle RX 7800XT just fine, and that's when playing at 1080p. I'm sure it could feed even more powerful cards in graphically demanding games, especially with higher res monitors and RT on.

    • @magnusnilsson9792
      @magnusnilsson9792 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Definately, the 5600 can wield a 7800XT, the 5800X3D can probably swing a 4090 in 1440p or above.

  • @HardWhereHero

I know content is content but maybe a better title would have worked. if you can play triple A games on a platform from intel that was made in the early 2000's, its really safe to say the same applies to AM4. Now, if the title was "can you game on FM2+ or AM3 in 2024, that might be a bit more interesting. This video is like asking if a lifeguard can still swim with a stubbed toe.

1440p SuperUltraWide is closer to 4K and it's a known fact that the "3D upgrade" is NOT worth that resolution ? 🤔

In my humble opinion, Zen 2 and beyond are still usable. Can bring them through to windows 11 and the IPC is still passable and good overclockers to squeeze more out of them. Also love that my Ryzen 3600 works with a blazing fast Gen 4 ssd on my x570 board and still dosent bottleneck my 3060ti at 1440p

That Mech 2 doesnt get anywhere near enough love. If people have one and want to stay on the AMD CPU path it works wonders with a 7700x. Incredible value card with loads left to offer.

5900x PBO2 @5.1GHz with a RTX 4090 here. There is a bottleneck but its so slight that it's not worth mentioning. In some games there's no bottleneck at all.
