  • In this session of "Guitar with Gurzi," Mike transposes his original "G Run" into a common "C Run" and a "D Run" - and puts both in context with a Tony Rice tune, "Blue Railroad Train."

    Flat picking is something I don't think many of the greats have ever mastered. It's a challenge because you are never supposed to run out of notes while always keeping the same picking tempo hence the term "flat picking"!

    It would have taken 2 minutes for you to clean up the b natural in the first C lick. You heard it and so did I. (0:41)

    I have been struggling like crazy to learn bluegrass flatpicking, and I must say I don't know how anyone has the patience to do that stuff....took me two weeks just to half way learn 3 simple licks. Now, I have to work on speed. Might as well get ready for that to take 6 months or longer...

    • @alan4sure
      @alan4sure 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      After a while, your finger muscles get so they know what movements to make to replicate the run and you don't have to focus on every single note, or where to put your fingers and how to move your pick. Then it's not as time-consuming at all. But it still takes persistence!

      This is the issue I had when I first learnt fingerstyle guitar. Took me so long to learn basic progressions but after playing it for a few years it's just second nature now, and learning fingerstyle songs is much easier. Stick with it and you'll get an intuitive feel for how to do flatpicking in no time flat.

    It sounds great, but I don't see how an E fits into a D run.

    • @engelsanchez
      @engelsanchez 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The run consists of the following degrees of a scale: 1-2-b3-3-5-6-5-8 (or 1). In G, that's G-A-Ab-B-D-E-D-G. In D, that's D-E-E#(F)-F#-A-B-A-D. He plays the open D, then instead of going higher, drops all the way down to the low E string to continue the run from there so he can end up back on the open D. Does that make sense?

    • @harrytoyshirt4146
      @harrytoyshirt4146 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@engelsanchez Yeah, that makes sense. thanks, I don't think I can do it very well, but I'll try. I doubt I could even do a "regular" D run. Have decided that some people have different nervous systems, and mine doesn't adapt to this kink of detail. Matter of focus, concentration, and also long, thin fingers help. Mine are neither. Thanks.

    Sounds like your strings are a bit low and vibrating on the frets when you play open notes

  • @user-rh7uk9uv2h
    @user-rh7uk9uv2h 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    See, you automatically say we should know the progression of the chord.But I don't know one chord for a chord. .I don't understand that so not all of us do are test or maybe it's just me always thought I was a dummy

  • @bcp5296d
    @bcp5296d 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    good video, but the c one is not just moving it down, as you said. You have to add the 2nd string, 2nd fret which is not the same shape. Good vid all in all though.

    Some aspects of this tutorial were good..but you CAN'T say:
    "3rd fret of the A sting, then open D ..then this...."
    THIS "what?" What string, what fret???🤔🤔🤔🤨🤨
