It's just that the devs made the characters act differently around eachother, it's not like Witcher were Geralt behaves exactly the same with Yen, Triss and Shani. All of them in FF7 has a personality of their own, that clashes and mixes differently with different people. Barett acts completly different with Cloud than he does with Aerith, for instance so it's not just the main three. Yes Cloud does not really initiate social stuff whatsoever with Aerith not just the "romance" stuff: Like he litterally initiates nothing. In their dynamic, _Aerith_ is the leader and he's the follower. While it's clear as day that in the Cloud/Tifa duo, Tifa is the follower (atleast in anything romance related). She puts herself in situations hoping Cloud will "notice" her. Which is ironic, given that Cloud did everything just for her to notice him as a kid. :) Which is yet again why i preffer them.... :) And they convey in Remake that Cloud is more than capable of rejecting womens advances when he wants to, like he physically pulled Jessie from him as she was hugging and nagging him to come by for "pizza" the next day, even called her desperate. That he doesn't with Aerith obviously indicates that he doesn't mind tagging along with her silly stuff even if he is very socially awkward with her. I see the romance plot with Aerith too, but Tifa is just my girl. I'm a sucker for the girl next door trope.

In Rebirth he literally pulls away from her on the way to the clock tower "date", and in remake when they're deciding whether to deal with those ghost kid things, he's leaning away, and looks dead at Tifa, but he's not trying to be rude. i don't care much about ships and all, but if me believing that Tifa is cannon and Aerith is wishful thinking, then so be it lol. One thing to consider is this: if Aerith is also trying something with Cloud, then what does that say about her? That she is deliberately trying to come in between Cloud and her best friend's man. Remember, even Aerith has made several mentions of knowing full well there was something between Cloud and Tifa, hell everyone has made mention of it lol. So for Aerith to know full well about Cloud and Tifa, to insert herself in between them says things about Aerith that I don't think are intentional. Besides, Aerith and Cloud make absolutely no sense to the story and lore. Cloud has known Tifa his whole life, so she is the thread that is keeping him together in his screwed up mind state. She's the only one who knows who cloud really is. She's putting in all the work. Cloud fully understands this, and that without Tifa he's a drooling vegetable in a hospital somewhere. With that said, what gain would there be with him and Aerith? Aerith doesn't know him, Aerith has almost no connection to him whatsoever outside of him pretending to be Zack. Ok So, heres my thing The story of the remake trilogy is focusing on aerith a bit more but the og game did the same thing. Right now cloud is still in his zack persona, but figuring things out faster than he did in og. We see this happening when he decides to open up to tifa after the gongaga reactor incident in rebirth. The main reason there a war between cloti and clerith is because the initial narrative is driving players to build a connection with the tragic heroine of the story, aerith. They know that she is going to die and only have a short time to build on her character and connect her to cloud. People constantly either misinterpret, reconstruct, or rewrite what actually happens in the overall plot of the story with their own understanding of the narrative. Think of it like this, in the first part of the game we are lead to believe that cloud is an ex soldier 1st class, but the actual plot later reveals that he isnt. The narrative is used to lead players into a direction of wanting to see the potential future of two individuals that could be an item. Now, the elephant in the room that needs to be addressed is the date. In both dates the narrative leads us to believe that both are romantic instances. But when the narrative gives way to the actual plot we can go back and look at it from a couple different angles. If you go with tifa then she'll try to give a type of confession to you/cloud. If you go with aerith then she'll bring up zack and how cloud reminds her of him through gestures, mannerisms and appearance. But...going back, neither of these were really romantic. More like they eluded to the plot of cloud not being himself, hes someone tifa isnt familiar with based on her childhood experiences with cloud(yes he wasnt close to her as a kid but he was always looking at her, and she actively attempted to get his attention from time to time calling him out for pretending to ignore her). And aerith is trying to both figure out if shes moved on from zack, and whats wrong with clouds act. Aerith is a lot more aware of clouds actions and fake persona than is let on. One is out of concern, tifa The other is out of curiosity, aerith. Plus the mechanical aspect of the game puts aerith at higher affection points because that was her repaying cloud for being her bodyguard. Now, when the narrative gives way to actual plot and story what's revealed is that cloud was an insecure awkward kid that attempted and failed to join soldier. All for the sake of tifa. His insecurity complex started after the mt.nibel fall and him being blamed by the other kid's for tifas near death experience. Even her father told him to stay away from her, so he had to ask tifa to sneak out and meet him at the water tower to tell her of his plan to join soldier. Everything begins and ends with tifa for cloud, true cloud strife. It all started with the promise. The events that occur when hes "cloud fair" are focused on aerith. But the story is focused on him and tifa. Tifa is such a core part of his entire identity that when she cant confirm his memory of nibeheim that he mentally snaps losing what little sense of self he had left. It was a major factor in causing his mako induced coma. The reason cloud thinks of aerith so much is because he feels he failed her the most, he blames himself exclusively. Believing that not only her death was his fault, but zacks as well. It only added to the insecurity he felt when he thought he failed tifa from before. So both sides of the shipping wars are technically correct when it comes to who cloud loved or in aeriths case he began to love. Though we have to remember that the games timeline takes place in roughly a month. So cloud only had a week or so to get to know aerith while not mentally himself. Whereas tifa has know him for years at this point, sure you can be objectively correct in saying they werent that close as kids, but it was mainly because of cloud not being socially capable as a child. The entire plot and story of ffvii revolves around cloud and tifa. The narrative focuses on a new girl that had the potential to live, move on from a past love and gain a new one. (About to go from og to ACC) It just couldn't be, aeriths overral role in the story, not narrative, is to be a guide for cloud. A surrogate mother figure for him, setting him on the right path. The path of acceptance for who he is, and in advent children it wasnt that he needed to learn to live with tifa and their kids. Its that he needed to learn to live with himself, embrace the postives and negatives, move on from his past mistakes and finally to be where he belongs. His new life, his newfound family, tifa, marlene, and denzel. One more thing really quick, aerith even quoted tifa in the movie-"dilly dally, shilly shally...isnt it time you did the forgiving?" In order to give him that push in the right direction Thanks for reading this far if you made it past those typos and long ass explanation (somehwhat lol) of the actual story. Hopefully you were able to rethink or see things differently. If not then cool Ships are ships and you like what you like at the end of that day😁
Honestly i didn’t even know there was ending variations but I’m just so glad I won the intimate one through hard work (even with zero knowledge of this). I won’t lie, I would’ve been a wee bit disappointed if it were the standard, but I’m so glad my efforts in maxing their relationships was worth it.

Personal belief, In OG timeline the person cloud goes on a date with is Aerith In OG timeline Tifa is much more reserved around cloud, his retelling of nibelhiem confuses her, and since he doesn’t have nearly as many of his episodes in OG timeline Tifa takes a more wait and see approach with cloud, causing Aerith (who is more adventurous and outgoing ) to go on the date with cloud. This also has the negative consequence of the truth of Nibelheim coming out at the worst time in the worst way causing Tifa to very nearly loose cloud forever in the northern crater In the OG timeline we see cloud and Tifa getting close, however as we see with On the Road to a Smile: Case Tifa (a story taking place chronicling the events between FF7 and advent children) it’s kind of clumsy and cloud is kind of well being cloud, Tifa tries to be understanding of their weird relationship, living together, watching over Marlene while Barrett works, running a business together. Tifa knows Cloud has problems and wants to support him but Cloud clams up about his issues. It gets to a point where Tifa watching a sleeping cloud begins pondering just what they are to each other and asks him if he loved her, which she quickly backtracks the question when Cloud stirs waking up and pretending she asked him what his thoughts on Marlene are. the story has a pretty downer ending, Denzel enters their life and they basically adopt him and for a short time their relationship seemed to be improving…….all for cloud to suddenly leave 7th heaven, Cloud Tifa, Denzel and Marlene. Cloud still continues doing the deliveres that Tifa passes on, but he doesn’t answer her calls, he just lets it go to voicemail as she tells him who wants what delivered where. The reason? Cloud get infected with Geo-stigma and firmly believed he was a dead man walking And he spends his time at Aeriths church, seeking solace and solitude there, Tifa eventually finds out about cloud Geostigma and tries to get cloud to let her support him, to let her stand by his side in the face of this, but cloud gives her the cold shoulder much to her dismay stating “I guess that only works for real families huh?” I think OG timeline it’s Aerith that Clloud has feelings. Aerith is consistently portrayed as where cloud turns to for healing, solace, forgiveness and atonement (note its where cloud turns to not the only place he gets it from but the point is that with his internal problems the first place cloud will go to is places associated with aerith), Cloud can’t move on until he hears it from Aerith. He can’t forgive himself until Aerith points out that he was the only one who blamed him for what happened Part of the problem with him and Tifa in the OG timeline is that his promise to her to protect her ironically has become a shackle because he also constantly tries to protect her from what he perceives as his problems, no matter how much Tifa wants to stand by his side and support him……..and that really doesn’t change at all even through the ending of Advent children And then we get to Remake timeline, and more specifically for importance of how their relationship changes between the two timelines, we have Gongaga Gongaga is a turning point where I say in this timeline they start a relationship because of the events at the reactor. First and foremost Tifa falling into the lifestream, remeber how I said her confusion of Clouds recounting of Nibelheim caused her to have a wait and see approach with cloud? Yeah between the rampant amount of those episodes cloud had in this timeline (compared to the OG) and literally seeing in the lifestream that Sephiroth plans to make cloud his puppet, taking him away from her. This causes her to be more proactive with cloud in this timeline Now we get to Clouds side of things. Cloud attacks Tifa, he lost control and attacked her. This shocked and scared cloud causing that scene between Cloud and Tifa in cissnei house. I fully believe cloud expected to loose his friendship with Tifa after that. However Tifa began talking to him and I believe cloud felt he needed to try and explain himself to her. And I can’t stress this enough, for the first time in FF7 and all of its 27 years of expanded material cloud begins to open up and let Tifa see his fears and insecurities, about his memories not being right, about feeling like their are other people in his head and he can’t tell what parts are him, about his fears of degradation……like I said cloud has never willingly let Tifa ever see his problems. And I think the thing that shocked cloud more then anything about the situation was that after everything that happened, him listing his problems, him going insane and trying to kill her, Tifa expressed a desire to stay by his side, and support him in the face of his apparent degradation. I think Gongaga is where Cloud feelings on Tifa began turning from one where he has to protect her, to one where he could also turn to for support and he didn’t have to face his problems alone I think this materialized best when the two of them went to the Nibelheim reactor. Where both of them were their and helped support and calm each other in the face of their past trauma they suffered at the reactor I think this is what leads to the date being with Tifa in the remake timeline over Aerith

This is my favorite couple. However Rebirth really sold me of Aerith and Cloud. The main theme helped and moved me so much. It made sense with everything else laid out between them. I only wished some elements were taken with what they did with Tifa's date. That said, I truly enjoyed the end results of Tifa and Cloud romantic night so much. It really made me leap with joy.

Aerith will have to destroy her friendship with Tifa, because she KNOWS how Tifa feels about Cloud, and Clouds gotta be an ahole who dates his work besties GF. Its problematic on so many levels. C & T and Z & A is the only ships that flow and are actually canon anyway. Crisis core and Advent Children cemented this fact. CA is cute, but it neeeds to remain in fanfiction, not the mainline story. I actually love these characters. dont want them ruined for 1 toxic ship.

So for Aerith to know full well about Cloud and Tifa, to insert herself in between them says things about Aerith that I don't think are intentional. Besides, Aerith and Cloud make absolutely no sense to the story and lore. Cloud has known Tifa his whole life, so she is the thread that is keeping him together in his screwed up mind state. She's the only one who knows who cloud really is. She's putting in all the work. Cloud fully understands this, and that without Tifa he's a drooling vegetable in a hospital somewhere. With that said, what gain would there be with him and Aerith? Aerith doesn't know him, Aerith has almost no connection to him whatsoever outside of him pretending to be Zack. Everything Cloud is and could be is wrapped up in Tifa, and they both know it, as well as Aerith. Anyway, thats how i see it . I could go on but this post is already way too long lol hugs to you

Cloud always initiates the contact with Tifa, never with Aerith. He let's Tifa touch him, pulls away from Aerith. Can't keep his eyes off of Tifa, cries out for her at even the possibility of losing her, kisses her, seeks her approval alone. He treats Aerith almost like Tseng does, there are alot of similarities, but he doesn't treat anyone he's met like he does Tifa. And the rest of the party (Barrett, Yuffie, and even Aerith herself) have all made mention of noticing how they are together. Aerith may have feelings for Cloud, but Cloud is all about some Tifa. So, heres my thing
The story of the remake trilogy is focusing on aerith a bit more but the og game did the same thing.
Right now cloud is still in his zack persona, but figuring things out faster than he did in og.
We see this happening when he decides to open up to tifa after the gongaga reactor incident in rebirth.
The main reason there a war between cloti and clerith is because the initial narrative is driving players to build a connection with the tragic heroine of the story, aerith.
They know that she is going to die and only have a short time to build on her character and connect her to cloud.
People constantly either misinterpret, reconstruct, or rewrite what actually happens in the overall plot of the story with their own understanding of the narrative.
Think of it like this, in the first part of the game we are lead to believe that cloud is an ex soldier 1st class, but the actual plot later reveals that he isnt.
The narrative is used to lead players into a direction of wanting to see the potential future of two individuals that could be an item.
Now, the elephant in the room that needs to be addressed is the date.
In both dates the narrative leads us to believe that both are romantic instances.
But when the narrative gives way to the actual plot we can go back and look at it from a couple different angles.
If you go with tifa then she'll try to give a type of confession to you/cloud.
If you go with aerith then she'll bring up zack and how cloud reminds her of him through gestures, mannerisms and appearance.
But...going back, neither of these were really romantic.
More like they eluded to the plot of cloud not being himself, hes someone tifa isnt familiar with based on her childhood experiences with cloud(yes he wasnt close to her as a kid but he was always looking at her, and she actively attempted to get his attention from time to time calling him out for pretending to ignore her).
And aerith is trying to both figure out if shes moved on from zack, and whats wrong with clouds act.
Aerith is a lot more aware of clouds actions and fake persona than is let on.
One is out of concern, tifa
The other is out of curiosity, aerith.
Plus the mechanical aspect of the game puts aerith at higher affection points because that was her repaying cloud for being her bodyguard.
Now, when the narrative gives way to actual plot and story what's revealed is that cloud was an insecure awkward kid that attempted and failed to join soldier.
All for the sake of tifa.
His insecurity complex started after the mt.nibel fall and him being blamed by the other kid's for tifas near death experience.
Even her father told him to stay away from her, so he had to ask tifa to sneak out and meet him at the water tower to tell her of his plan to join soldier.
Everything begins and ends with tifa for cloud, true cloud strife.
It all started with the promise.
The events that occur when hes "cloud fair" are focused on aerith.
But the story is focused on him and tifa.
Tifa is such a core part of his entire identity that when she cant confirm his memory of nibeheim that he mentally snaps losing what little sense of self he had left.
It was a major factor in causing his mako induced coma.
The reason cloud thinks of aerith so much is because he feels he failed her the most, he blames himself exclusively.
Believing that not only her death was his fault, but zacks as well.
It only added to the insecurity he felt when he thought he failed tifa from before.
So both sides of the shipping wars are technically correct when it comes to who cloud loved or in aeriths case he began to love.
Though we have to remember that the games timeline takes place in roughly a month. So cloud only had a week or so to get to know aerith while not mentally himself.
Whereas tifa has know him for years at this point, sure you can be objectively correct in saying they werent that close as kids, but it was mainly because of cloud not being socially capable as a child.
The entire plot and story of ffvii revolves around cloud and tifa.
The narrative focuses on a new girl that had the potential to live, move on from a past love and gain a new one.
(About to go from og to ACC)
It just couldn't be, aeriths overral role in the story, not narrative, is to be a guide for cloud.
A surrogate mother figure for him, setting him on the right path.
The path of acceptance for who he is, and in advent children it wasnt that he needed to learn to live with tifa and their kids.
Its that he needed to learn to live with himself, embrace the postives and negatives, move on from his past mistakes and finally to be where he belongs.
His new life, his newfound family, tifa, marlene, and denzel.
One more thing really quick, aerith even quoted tifa in the movie-"dilly dally, shilly shally...isnt it time you did the forgiving?" In order to give him that push in the right direction

Personal belief, In OG timeline the person cloud goes on a date with is Aerith In OG timeline Tifa is much more reserved around cloud, his retelling of nibelhiem confuses her, and since he doesn’t have nearly as many of his episodes in OG timeline Tifa takes a more wait and see approach with cloud, causing Aerith (who is more adventurous and outgoing ) to go on the date with cloud. This also has the negative consequence of the truth of Nibelheim coming out at the worst time in the worst way causing Tifa to very nearly loose cloud forever in the northern crater In the OG timeline we see cloud and Tifa getting close, however as we see with On the Road to a Smile: Case Tifa (a story taking place chronicling the events between FF7 and advent children) it’s kind of clumsy and cloud is kind of well being cloud, Tifa tries to be understanding of their weird relationship, living together, watching over Marlene while Barrett works, running a business together. Tifa knows Cloud has problems and wants to support him but Cloud clams up about his issues. It gets to a point where Tifa watching a sleeping cloud begins pondering just what they are to each other and asks him if he loved her, which she quickly backtracks the question when Cloud stirs waking up and pretending she asked him what his thoughts on Marlene are.
the story has a pretty downer ending, Denzel enters their life and they basically adopt him and for a short time their relationship seemed to be improving…….all for cloud to suddenly leave 7th heaven, Cloud Tifa, Denzel and Marlene. Cloud still continues doing the deliveres that Tifa passes on, but he doesn’t answer her calls, he just lets it go to voicemail as she tells him who wants what delivered where. The reason? Cloud get infected with Geo-stigma and firmly believed he was a dead man walking And he spends his time at Aeriths church, seeking solace and solitude there, Tifa eventually finds out about cloud Geostigma and tries to get cloud to let her support him, to let her stand by his side in the face of this, but cloud gives her the cold shoulder much to her dismay stating “I guess that only works for real families huh?”
I think OG timeline it’s Aerith that Clloud has feelings. Aerith is consistently portrayed as where cloud turns to for healing, solace, forgiveness and atonement (note its where cloud turns to not the only place he gets it from but the point is that with his internal problems the first place cloud will go to is places associated with aerith), Cloud can’t move on until he hears it from Aerith. He can’t forgive himself until Aerith points out that he was the only one who blamed him for what happened Part of the problem with him and Tifa in the OG timeline is that his promise to her to protect her ironically has become a shackle because he also constantly tries to protect her from what he perceives as his problems, no matter how much Tifa wants to stand by his side and support him……..and that really doesn’t change at all even through the ending of Advent children
And then we get to Remake timeline, and more specifically for importance of how their relationship changes between the two timelines, we have Gongaga Gongaga is a turning point where I say in this timeline they start a relationship because of the events at the reactor. First and foremost Tifa falling into the lifestream, remeber how I said her confusion of Clouds recounting of Nibelheim caused her to have a wait and see approach with cloud? Yeah between the rampant amount of those episodes cloud had in this timeline (compared to the OG) and literally seeing in the lifestream that Sephiroth plans to make cloud his puppet, taking him away from her. This causes her to be more proactive with cloud in this timeline Now we get to Clouds side of things. Cloud attacks Tifa, he lost control and attacked her. This shocked and scared cloud causing that scene between Cloud and Tifa in cissnei house. I fully believe cloud expected to loose his friendship with Tifa after that. However Tifa began talking to him and I believe cloud felt he needed to try and explain himself to her. And I can’t stress this enough, for the first time in FF7 and all of its 27 years of expanded material cloud begins to open up and let Tifa see his fears and insecurities, about his memories not being right, about feeling like their are other people in his head and he can’t tell what parts are him, about his fears of degradation……like I said cloud has never willingly let Tifa ever see his problems. And I think the thing that shocked cloud more then anything about the situation was that after everything that happened, him listing his problems, him going insane and trying to kill her, Tifa expressed a desire to stay by his side, and support him in the face of his apparent degradation. I think Gongaga is where Cloud feelings on Tifa began turning from one where he has to protect her, to one where he could also turn to for support and he didn’t have to face his problems alone I think this materialized best when the two of them went to the Nibelheim reactor. Where both of them were their and helped support and calm each other in the face of their past trauma they suffered at the reactor I think this is what leads to the date being with Tifa in the remake timeline over Aerith

However Rebirth really sold me of Aerith and Cloud. The main theme helped and moved me so much. It made sense with everything else laid out between them. I only wished some elements were taken with what they did with Tifa's date.
That said, I truly enjoyed the end results of Tifa and Cloud romantic night so much. It really made me leap with joy.
