The hare's ear body, gold rib, wing casing, natural peacock thorax, orange hotspot, and (the best of all) CDC hackle... All the best features of a fly in one. I absolutely love it. Thanks Davie!
I began learning to tie flies as a 6 year old watching my father at his vise mounted on the family dining room table. He almost always smoked cherry wood flavoured tobacco in his pipe while he tied, stopping now and then to sit back, take a few pensive puffs, and then proceed with the next explained step. I'm 64 years old now and my father passed long ago, but I still love to tie and learn new patterns and to perfect old ones. All that's missing when I watch your engaging tutorials is the now politically incorrect, rich pipe tobacco smoke smell.
A great looking pattern, Davie, with the added plus of simplicity. I have similar patterns - they do work really well! I shall tie some of these... Many thanks for sharing...
Very GRHE type pattern which of course is one of the greatest fish catching nymphs out there …. And with the addition of CDC it gives it (as ‘Mainely Flies’ puts it ) “That nice buggy look!!” … my local rivers here in Colorado are a bit of a mess at the moment with spring thaw run off but I’m definitely going to whip a few of these up for then they settle down … great video as always .. thanks 🙏
Brilliant pattern. I fish something similar, and will add your modifications to my pattern. Thanks for that. I'd love to see a version that's more hackle dressed and without the bead as a dry pattern.
Hi @andreashaase1540, I have attached a link to a video I made on how I like to mix my dubbings for you to see and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. th-cam.com/video/SWlivZje1jI/w-d-xo.html All the very best Davie..
Hi Davie, apologies if it's been asked before, but what type of bobbin thread holder are you using please? I'm having issues with my many brass holders at the moment breaking the threads when wrapping.
Hi @riflemang176, The bobbin holder I like to use is the Tiemco Heavy Duty which I have used for many years. I have attached a link to a video I made on how to adjust them so that the thread runs smoothly from it when you are tying the fly which is very important.. th-cam.com/video/e9m9Ilan-rM/w-d-xo.html All the very best Davie
I tied a few of these up the other day and got my biggest browns to date out of my home river the Cohocton. It measured 25-1/2 inches male no idea how much it weighed but it's my PB Brown on fly rod out of that river.

Could you mix in white CDC? Or highly recommend the dyed as mentioned?
Lovely pattern again Davie. How do you mix up the dubbing, by hand or mixer?
