My eras are the fall of Rome on up to the Elizabethton era . Been working on gowns for different times during Aliénor d,Aquitaine. Hand stitching these bliuats and weaving the trim by hand is really making me thankful for my sewing machine but the client wants it made as authentic as possible.

Yeah but Zeus is definitely worse than Poseidon by miles. Cause at least Poseidon doesn't leave you to the mercy of his spouse (who will either kill or torment you and possibly your child's life), and Poseidon does have some consensual relationships (like the og Greek version of him and Medusa, which is kinda sweet that he liked her even though she was a monster. Poseidon also doesn't assault Medusa; that was Neptune and Roman mythology is only inspired by Greek, it isn't the same thing). He also sometimes gives divine favors like being a wingman and occasionally gives something useful/helpful/ or for survival, so at least you get something out of it if Poseidon bangs you (meanwhile Zeus doesn't leave you with many benefits other than a child and a angry spouse). Not to mention there are some myths where Poseidon is reasonable (ex: In the Odyssey the Ares & Aphrodite myth where he has a agreement with Hephaestus to let them go). TDLR: Basically Zeus f's with mortals and let's them deal with the consequences, but Poseidon is much tamer and merciful. Still not a good person. But Hades is definitely king. I could write several entire essays on all the bad things Zeus has done.
I think instead of just doing a straightforward series about the gods' love affairs it would be neat to tie that into an explanation for how the moons of our Solar System's planets got their names. Looking at the moons of Jupiter, you have a laundry list of his lays.

Glad you clarified that the Medusa-Poseidon thing was a creation by Ovid. Since the "she was always a monster" interpretation is the earliest known version of her story, that's the one I tend to go with.
In the original version, Medusa had two sisters who were also gorgons, the only difference being the other two were immortal, while Medusa was not. The gorgons descended from Typhon and Echidna, the grandparents of many monsters, including the hydra and the chimera.
I love the theory Hades was an offshoot of Mycenaean Poseidon since he was a chthonic god back in the day, king of them all especially (granted Red from OSP theorized it but would make some sense)

I've mentioned a few times before, but it could be fun to see Jon cover the Aralez; the Aralez is a creature from Armenian mythology, and the briefest of summaries about it says that it's basically a flying doggo that descends from the heavens to revive fallen heroes. Also, in a few prior comments, I have mentioned how it could be fun to see Jon do a ranking list for Hellhounds in a video for the Halloween season.
As someone who is writing a story where the main character learns about and summons various entities (spirits) from different mythologies, Armenian mythology has always sounded interesting.
I took a class in Greek mythology this summer and it seems to be a theme where parents tend to be more interested in their self preservation than being a parent

I'M SO GLAD YOU MENTIONED THE WHOLE OVID THING THANK YOU SO MUCH! Almost everyone says Medusa was SA'd by Poseidon and was just a cursed victim. Meanwhile it wasn't even Poseidon it was Neptune (remember it was written by a roman poet)! Poseidon did nothing to her and Greek and Roman mythology are not the same thing (while Roman myths may be based of Greek myths, that still doesn't change the fact they are not the same religion and were from different places and times). And besides Ovid rewrote already existing greek myths to make the gods as unlikeable as possible (thats why we have the Athena, well really Minerva, as petty myths. Very un-characteristic to her character in other myth, making Ovids input inconsistant) because he had authority issues (I believe he got exiled and was feeling petty). Also so glad you brought up the medusa was born a gorgon thing, cause the theogony is probably the oldest source we have of her, and it makes more sense (especially since it explains her gorgon sisters existence) and is less tragic that what Ovid wrote. TDLR: Posedion didn't hurt Medusa, but thanks to Ovid Neptune did. A Ovid is the real petty one.

Seriously, it should be noted that Ovid only *published* his poem in AD 8 and that he'd been working on it for _years_ b4hand.

I do not recall the source, but I recall reading a book about the Greek gods that claimed Zeus and Poseidon were once the same god and it was only when the cult of said god split and half settled on the sea that Poseidon became his own deity.
This was superb. Poseidon is my favorite God and this was completely accurate and I got to learn about versions I didn't know existed. Keep up the good work man!

This was *really, really, really* good. I thought I knew a lot about Greek myths - but I learned so much from this. Stuff I either didn't know or connections I never made. The amount of information you must have had to absorb is one thing, but the sheer mental acuity to create a narrative that lasted just 30 minutes - and managed to be cohesive and entertaining really needs to be remarked on. It's substantial scholarship.

Another curious transformation is the one he had with Astipalaea (Europe's sister), he took the form of a winged leopard with a fish tail. 😳 I SUPPORT THE IDEA!!! It would be very interesting to focus on the romantic lives of the different gods; •Ares seems to have aspects in common with several of his companions (several are associated with war due to the meaning of their names) apart from the fact that he does not seem to have a Greek myth of rape. •Hephaestus did not have many loves, but the few he did have are Very interesting, like Aetna (a volcanic Nymph), or Aglaea (the carite that won a beauty contest to Aphrodite). •Apollo is one of the most bisexual. gods, and seems to do better with boys than girls. •Aphrodite is not as promiscuous as one might expect (yes, she is the most promiscuous of the Olympian goddesses, but 3 of the 6 are virgins and Hera is monogamous); One could even address how “Virginity in the goddesses” seems to represent independence more than anything, Hestia, Artemis and Athena were not the only ones, the muses and Hecate were also called virgins and even so, children are associated with them, even Aphrodite and Hera seem to be able to restore it with a bath.

Also goddesses like the Muses or Hecate are called or represented as virgins, despite being mothers of several children.

24:34 - as far as I'm aware, there is no Classical depiction of Medusa having a snake's tail instead of legs (or at least I've never seen one), that was Echidna's thing until Harryhausen used it for Medusa in the original Clash of the Titans.
It's probably some modern interpretation of her, just like the made up feminist interpretation of her myth. Then of course many people believe the interpretations without knowing/or seeing the actual source, like how people believe the SA is her Greek myth when it's not even close.
1. I didn't know about the alternate origin of Poseidon where he gets spared from Cronos before Zeus. 2. Yes, Minos did deserve his fate for gassing up Poseidon and then completely disregarding him after. 3. And Orestes' story is one of the most brutal stories about the furies and how the ancient laws regarding family loyalty and duties can twist up an innocent man and force him into an impossible situation. It's also a continuation of Agamemnon's story post-Trojan war.

I enjoyed this video but I am surprised Nerites wasn't mentioned I mean he was beloved by Poseidon and although he isn't mentioned in many myths he is mentioned in two myths. In the first version, Aphrodite, before her ascension from the sea to Olympus, fell in love with Nerites. When the time had come for her to join the Olympian gods, she wanted Nerites to go with her, but he refused, preferring to stay with his family in the sea. Even the fact that Aphrodite promised him a pair of wings did not make him change his mind. The scorned goddess then transformed him into a shellfish and gave the wings to her son Eros. In the second version, Nerites was loved by Poseidon and answered his feelings. Their love was the origin of mutual love (Anteros). Poseidon also made Nerites his charioteer; the boy drove the chariot astonishingly fast, to the admiration of various sea creatures. Helios, for reasons unknown to Aelian's sources, changed Nerites into a shellfish; the narrative of the love-story is disrupted by Helios who is resentful of the boy's speed, but with no explanation behind it, allowing Aelian to conjecture that the two gods were rivals in love and Helios might have wanted the boy's affections for himself and was offended by his refusal. 24:34 - as far as I'm aware, there is no Classical depiction of Medusa having a snake's tail instead of legs (or at least I've never seen one), that was Echidna's thing until Harryhausen used it for Medusa in the original Clash of the Titans.
It's probably some modern interpretation of her, just like the made up feminist interpretation of her myth.
Then of course many people believe the interpretations without knowing/or seeing the actual source, like how people believe the SA is her Greek myth when it's not even close.

Ichthyocentaurs have two equine legs and one/two serpentine tail/tails, Tritons and Nereids have two serpentine tails, Sirens/Mermaids (winged), Lamias and Gorgons have one serpentine tail.

I enjoyed this video but I am surprised Nerites wasn't mentioned I mean he was beloved by Poseidon and although he isn't mentioned in many myths he is mentioned in two myths.
In the first version, Aphrodite, before her ascension from the sea to Olympus, fell in love with Nerites. When the time had come for her to join the Olympian gods, she wanted Nerites to go with her, but he refused, preferring to stay with his family in the sea. Even the fact that Aphrodite promised him a pair of wings did not make him change his mind. The scorned goddess then transformed him into a shellfish and gave the wings to her son Eros.
In the second version, Nerites was loved by Poseidon and answered his feelings. Their love was the origin of mutual love (Anteros). Poseidon also made Nerites his charioteer; the boy drove the chariot astonishingly fast, to the admiration of various sea creatures. Helios, for reasons unknown to Aelian's sources, changed Nerites into a shellfish; the narrative of the love-story is disrupted by Helios who is resentful of the boy's speed, but with no explanation behind it, allowing Aelian to conjecture that the two gods were rivals in love and Helios might have wanted the boy's affections for himself and was offended by his refusal.
