    I have the 791 lasted 3 months before the chuck started having seizing issues. Put up with it for 3 more months. Bought a dewalt replacement chuck. Welp wouldn't you know it. You have to field strip the entire drill to change the chuck.
    After making sure I didn't lose all the gears and pins I reassembled the drill lasted 5 minutes before changing the gearing, now its stuck in low gear. Have to take apart again. Build quality isn't great for their top of the line and I shouldn't have to bring it in to be service to change the chuck. Built in obsolescence in the design. Won'r support a company that does this.
    Bad enough you have to buy a new platform every 10 years and half that time on the batteries.
    Moved over to Makita with a nice sale on at HD. Smoother transmission,=less wear, solid Japanese made chuck, all around very nicely made tool. For smaller hands it feels better to grip as well.
    Will try again to fix the 791, but if I don't get it to work I have a battery convertor on order to use dewalt batteries on my Makita. Might be taller but its worth it on these smaller profile drills with so far better build quality. At least the makita has made it past 5 months.
    Sad because the XR is the best Dewalt makes.

    I appreciate your opinion, but I hate it when someone doing a youtube review says don't buy this! There are many people who have different needs than you, and I personally own the atomic drill and impact set, with no complaints. I also have the 796B hammer drill, and I am getting the 791. The plastic chuck is not plastic inside on the atomic. Use a tool properly and you will get good results on any brand. Not every tool was built to do heavy jobs. Just like the guys buying diesel trucks but never haul anything, its all for show if you don't use it. But hey, its your money, buy what you want. That's why I hate it when you say don't buy this. Is faster charging *really* better? I suppose, if you only own 1 battery, and are recharging to finish a job. But.....the caveat is....charging slower is actually better for your battery, and will lead to longer overall battery life.

    • @ToolsElectroDIY
      @ToolsElectroDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fast charging impact on battery longevity is negligible, as long as you avoid the deep discharge. And the included charger here is more like a "medium fast" charger. No matter how much care you put into the battery, 3~5 years later you will get a new one. They age.

    • @miker1473

      @@ToolsElectroDIY I build batteries, and components that use them. So...what do I know? On mine, I'm looking into just cracking the cases open, and rebuilding them, with better chemistry cells. So...however you want to use them, it's a free country, have at it. I'm just stating fact. Slower charge is better for the cells. How much better? It depends. But, yes...you are correct. The more you discharge them, before recharging, has a more detrimental effect on them than a fast charge.

    • @ToolsElectroDIY
      @ToolsElectroDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miker1473 Agree. But the degrade due to faster charging is small trade-off to make for convenience. Again the one included in the kit is not exactly a fast charger anyway :) If you are nervous about fast charging, take a look at the Tesla car super chargers -- The new “V3” is capable of charging some of the Model 3 at a rate of 250kW, which says is fast enough to add 75 miles of range in 5 minutes.

I know I'm really liking lithium iron phosphate. Much more stable, and is able to hold the voltage up there, till the "bitter end". The pack has on board smart charging, so, you can't over charge it, or over discharge it, either. I have a 12v 30 mAh pack, that will handle a 23 amp discharge, for 7.5 hours, straight. It only weighs around 6.5 pounds. Starts out at 13.9 v, and gives it up at around 11.5 v. Pretty impressive.

    • @georgedavall9449

      Mike, you have a valid point regarding slower charging of batteries. The main problem I see is the improper care and usage of batteries. Worked with a guy way back in the day, that would run the old NiCds way down. That is very hard on a battery. I realize you fellas know this, but it still happens. Slow charging that heats up a battery, is not good. I have a fan that blows across my chargers on my charging station in my shop. I’ve taken IR readings, and it makes a big difference! Not always practical, but a jobsite fan can be used in the field. I have Makita batteries that are 4-5 years old, and still hold up well. YMMV. Modern Lithium Ion batteries should be stored at half charge or so. I will even “pull” a battery off the charger, before it reaches 100%, every so often. Varied use is the key I believe. I’m done now! Hope it helps! Stay safe and Healthy! ✌🏻👍😁🇺🇸

    No love for the Atomic? 🤔 They are not all that bad. I think DeWalt could have spent a little more time, and really knocked it out of the park. I see You like the 5.0 amp hour batteries. I think they are a solid battery, and along with the newer XR 6.0, are some of the best DeWalt has to offer. I DO NOT like the newer XR 3.0 batteries. Haven’t had any experience with the new 4.0 yet. The newer two stage chargers are winners, IMO. I have and use the 6amp model, and it is a medium to fast charger, and doesn’t heat the batteries up too much. With the dual stage, I can take the battery off when it is at about 80% charged. I do this at times, as I have read it is better for the batteries. Varied use and charge rates are the key. Fast charge sometimes, and a slower charge at other times. YMMV. Stay safe and Healthy! Peace! 👍😁🇺🇸
