This sounds really good
Brings me back to high school. Had a 94 beretta z26
I still have a 96 Z26. Awaiting a 3400/3500. I love it
Brings back memories of my 93 beretta gt
That would be a fun daily driver
Is this a stock motor?
Man these things make big power!
My 07 chevy equinox (the good ones) has the ole gm 3.4 paired with a aisin auto 5 speed sitting at 430k miles. It had absolutely nothing done except maintenance and it sounds amazing on a cold start with factory exhaust. They don't die and can handle some power and abuse.
This Z24 + this engine setup = Has alot of QUESTIONS!! Me as a fellow 1993 Z24 wants to know😏 I am still waiting on Ben Phelps to get my engine Done! I also have plans to break records with it once the car is back in my hands 🤝 Very Beautiful car! Fantastic Job
Minus the fact the paint is pretty mint, nobody will ever expect what's about to happen when they're lined up at a red light...
I was able to get 300 something out of an na 3400 with a tune and a couple other things. I loved it. It beat everything. It was the pontiac grand am, i miss it
Would love to do this to my 2005 Monte Carlo. lol.
My buddy in high school had the four cylinder version and let me tell ya, we tried every bolt on doo-hickey possible to make it faster! 😁. Thanks for sharing Matt, love it!
Tom, we miss you!
Would love to see some street rips
I had a friend with a factory turbo cavalier. I've never seen another one since. I don't remember the exact year, but it was the same body style. Finding parts was impossible for it 15 years ago
@@kevins9335 that was probably a grand prix McLaren. Only car that came with a turbo 3.1 from the factory.
@@AT_motors It was a 4 cylinder.
memories. I had a 92 with a stick. full bells and whistle. Miss it to death! Sold it around 2001. edit: can't tell if it's just the colors in this video editing, but mine was a slightly darker blue
Cool combo
Could you do this on a 88 Cadillac cimmaron.
Yep
That has to be some kind of record for a 3.4 l Chevy V6
Frikin'Kool! I'd rather have that Cavalier than most Corvettes, HellCats, or Mustangs
Reminds me of my sunbird 3.1L 5spd back in the day. Fun car.
Love how diverse the channel is!!
So cool to see one alive. Friend had a '91 in highschool with the 3.1. They were pretty torquey and fun even stock. Of course he managed to blow it up but that was the hardest car for him to destroy.
I never wanted a cavalier so bad. Very cool and super clean. Good job to whoever built this!
Awesome!
People can trash talk these GM 60 degree V6 engines all they want, but they are pretty reliable, make a great noise and it is nice when people do things to tune them. I feel they deserve more love than they get.
They definitely need more recognition. i think the main reason they arent as popular is they got overshadowed by the 3800 because they came stock with forced induction that was common. realistically the 3100/3400 is a much better platform for actual power, just it was overshadowed and we now have a lack of aftermarket. i feel a setup using the 3.4dohc design with a custom intake, better cams and head, and some boost could easily reach 700+ wheel
I had a 3.1l in a 92 corsica that was freaking bullet proof (but not curb proof. Sheared the oil pan and probably the lower crack mounts right off 😢).
Ripped out the air box, replaced it with a k&n cone, and a bit of semi truck exhaust pipe (new, clean), had the thermostat out due to over heating issues so it ran in 'warm up' mode all the time, put a 2.25 in catback with series 40 on it. She sounded mean. Barked when youd stomp it, blubbed in idle (it was a fast blub, but it definitely blubbed).
Those freaking engines, man .... As long as you keep em greased, theyll run forever. Note: sludge counts as grease to them. They get hot, melt some sludge, sludge grease seeps into places that need lube, good to go. Just dilute the sludge with some fresh oil and you're all set!
@@TankRthey are quite literally immortal, even with low oil lmao
@@ProtoAzula seriously, the only way to kill them is to make them stop being an engine. Like ... Blow a hole in the side, which while I'm sure it's happened in the realm of possibility I've never heard of at least a stock one throwing a wrist pin and punching a hole in the block. Or if you've got a day free try to cook the thing til the heads weld themselves to the sleeves....but even then, thats fixable. Same with spinning the main bearings....
As much as I hate the 3100 (especially on the 2000 Malibu.....WHO THE FUCK PUTS A MOTOR MOUNT INSIDE THE SERPENTINE BELT?!? A fucking moron that deserves to be stockaded and have rotten fruit thrown at them, thats who....not tomatoes, I mean rotten pineapples....), The general line of that design of engine has always been 100% reliable. Literally all you have to do is keep water and some lubrication in 'em, and as long as you give em fuel and air they will run forever. Happily. They may not have the power output of more 'performance' pedigrees, however thats because they were never meant to. They start, and get you from point A to point B. And with the most basic levels of care they will do it in spades untill the end of days and the trumpets sound!
There is literally nothing in this 'verse that can make me talk bad on a early 90s Chevy 3.1l engine. Not a single thing.
My first car was a 94 Z24 with the cowl hood. 440hp in a cavalier. 😂😂😂 FINALLY, my kind of people.
nice ride love to run you sometime.L-67 , F40 6 speed on spray
That thing looks super clean! I always loved the z24 package on those
There's a 3800 series II 5sp 87 z24 on the internet. Would love to have it
Damn that is super cool. Super clean ride too. Never would have thought you could put a 3400 in one of those. In the age of every car getting a K series or LS swap, this is refreshing.
They're about the same as a 3.1L sfi.
@@llTr0janManlltheyre basically identical besides bore. Hell, they made the same power from 2000+ model year cars till 2005, when it was last available in the Buick Century
@@ProtoAzula I'm aware of that.
@@llTr0janManll i figured, just stating the obvious lmao. Im very much a GM X Engine enthusaist
What’s cool is the Grand Prix came with a turbo 3100, the 3.4 and subsequent 3.5 share a lot with each other. The F35 is the manual transmission that bolts up to those v6 motors.
I don’t remember a v6 f35 transmission but the f40 6 speed came in both 4 cylinder pattern and v6.
Cleanest cavalier in existence!
Nah I can argue that😅 but in a race against mine I am TOAST!!! Imagine if this car had an extra gear from a F40 Transmission swap, you may be able to see this car do 200mph+ at the bonneville salt flats🤷 don't forget some special tires of course!! Also suspension work🤔 it can be done and seeing this cavalier in a video doing 200mph makes history😂
I always loved the look of that era of Cavalier. It appeals to the hotwheels kid in me. The sound of the boost hitting that 3.4.... Yeah buddy!
I got a Cavalier but it's not the foxbody look like this one in the video. Mine is an 03 with a 2.2 DOHC. Motor blew and was beyond repair so I now have plans to turn it into a mud buggy. I'm stuck between taking a 3.8 from a Buick and just boosting it stock with a single turbo or building a strong twin turbo 3.5 from a Chrysler or Dodge.
This thing actually sounds really good 👍
when i was like 13 my stepmom had a z34 cavy
I haven't seen a z24 since high school
I did this swap for a buddy's brother way back when. I was never a chevy v6 guy, but these were pretty cool!
Always had a soft spot for these cars. My brother had a z24 convertible when I was a kid. Won a handful of car shows with it! Awesome to see a super clean one with an off the wall combo.
That’s sweet. 400+ hp.
I had an 87 Z24 and a 93 Z34 Lumina in high school. Cool to see a clean car like that.
the z34 lumina was a sweet car lol i had a 94 cutlass supreme with what i think was that same 24valve 3.4 as the z34? it smoked all the cool kid's maximas and hondas and vr6s until the 3.5s came out lol and even the 3.5 maximas were'nt
enough to pull on it except on the highway
To see one of those completely not rotted out in Pennsylvania is amazing
This car is a hate machine. I love it.
Crazy to see this 3.4 take power considering ive blown up 3 of these engines in stock form...amazing!
Stock is weak. Must make the 3.4 strong. Stock is a joke
I deeply approve of this. Excellent!
Kool looking ride I bet it fun to drive around and mess with Mustangs and Camaro.
In a world caught up in LS swaps nice to see someone showing the old six shooters some love... Matt anyone asking you to tune an LV3 4.3 v6? With vvt and flex fuel I bet you could play all day.
Nice looking cars.
This definitely brings back high school memories. Had a buddy that had a Z24 convertible. He put a glass pack muffler on it. It was ungodly loud. Could hear it from over a half mile away. I think it was as slow as the 305 powered third gen he bought after the cavalier. 😂
GM sound of power
My brother had a Pontiac sunbird. Idk what year. 90 something anyways. Looked similar. All he did was put a muffler and 17" rims. That was cool to have in our highschool days. There was a turbo'd sunbird. But unfortunately my bro didn't have one of those.
That's a clean ass Cavalier and putting down some amazing numbers!
Nice little setup with the microsquirt I'd say
wow, that thing is super clean, its rare to see them without rust everywhere. I actually like the looks of that generation Cavalier z24, and the Beretta z26
My best friend has a 99 Camaro we put together with alot of the parts off my 00 z28 it has a 2004 3800 blower motor from a grand Prix with a n/a intake with 80 pound injectors it's on e85 besides that its stock he built the turbo kit it's got a s472 with a 1.15 or 1.10 t6 housing and a cheap a2w intercooler. It's never been on the dyno but its pretty damn fast its gotta be in the 475-500 range, the biggest pain in the ass is the weak 5 speeds that come in those cars. When ever that 3800 let's go he has another one put together with good rods and pistons and a pretty nice glide ready to go! If he can get one of those 3800's to make some power I'd like to put one in my z28 it weighs 3127# with me full fuel cel andl a 403 ls2 gtx5594, th400 and strange 12 bolt and see how fast a 3800 can go in a decent chassis
Love this build! Going to be building my friends cavalier soon similar to this but with a slightly larger 60°!
Sounds definitely bring me back to 2000-2004 high school days minus the woosh
I had a '91 Beretta GTZ in the mid 90s with the 5 speed. Pretty neat cars for their time.
This is the stuff I live for. Moar oddball junk!!!!
3400 is a popular swap for pontiac fiero max torque on getrag is 280ftlbs
I love oddball stuff. I’m so tired of LS and K series content. Both great engines... blah blah blah... but this guy deserves respect and these are decent numbers. I bet the torque figure is good too. Thanks for sharing Matt
The later Montana/uplander minivans and g6 etc had a 3.9L version of this engine with vvt that made 240/240 stock. Always wanted to boost one in something.
I hope he doesn't go too crazy with the boost, stock 3.4's will kill head gaskets without the extra stress of boost.
It's the coolant not the 3.4 itself. Dexcool. Terrible chit. Most 3.4 factory recommend dexcool Brownish coolant , it eats the head gaskets. Not a gasket problem nor 3.4 to blame. Dexcool. Simple fix. These 3.4 are just as reliable as 3.8 or any V6. Flush that chit out
60 degree v6 equals fun daily! Sleeper!
man I need to boost my fresh built 2.8 v6 in my firebird!
Didn't hear in the run down but I am assuming it has a built bottom end?
totally stock
I had a red 93 Chevy Beretta GT with a 3 speed auto. I had nice wide tires and Bilstein shocks. Not fast but enough torque for a high school student.
440whp is really good!
Clean looking car
Hope to do this with my Sunbird one day soon!
Z24’s were very popular where I’m from during the late 90’s. I had a couple RS 3.1’s and a 2.8 Z24. The engines were torquey compared to any of the 4 bangers of the day but the transmissions didn’t hold up well. Don’t see may of these cars around anymore.
My mom had a blue 90's cavalier and let me tell you I can still hear that belt squealing ....
Getrag 282.....that thing has to be a handful
reminds me of my 3400 swapped third gen firebird i had in highschool, good times with sub 200hp haha
I love this thing
The sounds remind me of my 87 T Type Regal 😎
This thing is fuckin awesome. I say he doesn't touch it power wise. What even would you do with more power in a FWD street car besides break parts.
Those WRX stocks make it look a lot cleaner.
This really makes me miss mine
How long did the crank, pistons, con rods last with boost ?
Does this have a trigger wheel to bypass gms dis?
I miss these Videos!
This isn’t something you see everyday lol
Could I do a swap to my 87 Rs to a 3400 turbo ? I know nothing about building, what are the specs ?
No idea, someone just brought this for tuning
The old 3.4 cavaliers, the 5litre eater, I had one exactly like that same color 3.4, was a auto and put a 5spd in it on a 150 shot went 13.1 99mph, hence the sign*, had 2 haha fuck
Edit:had a coltcam no2 camshaft, anyone remember jbody.org I think it was
What was the combo?
Injectors pump turbo?
I have a. 05 monte carlo 3400 how do i turbo it?
I used to have one with a 31 it would fly
Now I miss my 93 Z24.
had the 3.1 with the 5spd, tell you what, if I had not of sold the car, it would of gotten a 3800 series 2 swap.
I was wondering how bad of an idea it would be to take like one of the 3800 and turbo as a swap in like a suburban you know like the eco boost I mean if it's makeing like 500 at the crank that's still pretty good and could possibly get better millage
I'm pretty sure the 3800 would too but they won't both probably take some effort as far as which computer to use and I assume you have more control over the 3800 because they have a coil for each cylinder well a per 2 but I assume they are controllable and as far as I remember all the 4.3l have distributors but I don't think I have really messed with one in a while
I'm running a 3100 with a turbo in my 1993 c1500. More power and better on gas than the 350 tbi. Eventually I will go 3400 or 3900 to get some more torque when not in boost.
@@modeverything1 what kind of mileage do you get and are you useing a factory computer or a standalone
@@james10739 using a obd II computer for the engine but plan to switch to megasquirt. Best I have done is 22mpg taking it easy. I think that I can still get a little better from it!
@@modeverything1 I mean in a half ton truck that's like 30 years old that's pretty good ball park do you know how much you are making I mean the stock 350 only made like 190 hp or something but probably around 300ft/lbs
Car is Sanitary
Is this stock internals as well???
Yes
There awesome chevy
Mega squirt. Not micro squirt. Lol.
no, its actually a microsquirt ecu, look it up "LOL"
Oddly specific fetishes
Man i wish i was confident on doing things like this! Just don't trust myself.
Is this a stock bottom end motor?
I’m curious to this as well. What was done to the engine to prep for boost.
Awesome sleeper! But it's not "get rag" it's pronounced "ghe trock" in German.
I like to brutally Americanize words lol
Turbo time
Personally I blame squirrels
😎👍👍👍👍🙌
That thing is disgusting I love it Chevy Vega owner
Straight oil fitting into turbo 😬😐
