Joe i like your work you do on the pinball and arcade machines..its down to earth ..not overly high budget..more of a working mans type video..cheers and thanks for all the great videos!
I commend I you for the love of saving these beautiful machines. This Lost World.I mean I see passion , and I would do the same, just for the love of each and every game I see.my name is TOMMY and I live for pinball!
Were these machines originally hand painted or did they have silk screening in this era? You've done this machine proud. I think even the guys at Bally would be impressed. You always say you're not an expert at doing thisstuff, but majority of the machines you restore are good enough that they could go back into commercial service and probably make a decent amount of money again. You certainly treat them with more respect than a lot of operators use to. It is very obvious you do this because you love these machines and not just for a profit.
Love the videos...keep 'em coming! Looking ahead...what is the name of the wood rail next to the Lost World that you'll be doing next? I've got 2 wood rail pins and am very much looking forward to watching the videos on them!
You gonna restore the Derby Day? I've got one now in the shop for restoration. Already got the top of the playfield stripped down for a good cleaning and rebuilding all the dead bumpers and pop bumper with all new parts from Pinball Resource. Even bought a flipper rebuild kit too.
I'm going to yes... unfortunately this one has a lot of playfield wear too so I have to repaint large parts of the circles in the middle. It's easy compared to some of the more complicated art though.
Forget about "not being an artist". An otherwise doomed classic game is being brought back to a fully functional and enjoyable condition. Only if the game was in *mint* condition (like new-old-stock) except for 1 single scratch ruining the otherwise flawless appearence, then perhaps a more high-end restoration would be called for. Looks fine to me, and kinda adds to the charm (like old cars with bruises/repairs due to actual use).
I have done repainting on playfield because paint drys different I painted a piece of clear plastic let it dry to match, I can do this because it is a hobby I probably have 40 plus hours in it you can’t make money this way
Possible solution to the lettering? Put down dry transfer lettering. I would think that clear coating will protect it. Letraset is now out of business, but this company can custom make it for you regarding font and color. customrubontransfers.com/letraset-dry-transfer-lettering/ I'm very new to this pinball restoration world, so I'm not sure if this will work. Either way- thank you so much for the time in making these videos.
I think that would definitely work... with us since it's a business we're always operating on a time vs. value equation, so if you were doing this for your house that would be an awesome way to get that text back on there. We could do it in our shop but it'd add another week or so to the timetable, and several hours of work, etc. So we kind of did the best we could with what we had there and let it roll! Keep watching, we have many more videos coming, we're working on the Space Odyssey right now!
looking pretty good. I just made a video of me repainting a embryon playfield, check it out if you're interested, first video I uploaded. It's really hard to do by hand. I think you did very well ;)
I have a few games to do after this one. I wanted to see if it was fun to film it and if people are interested to see if I will do the next ones aswell. I have a Haunted House lined up next with new pcb to make it a haunted house with multiball and speech. A difficult and long project, not sure whether to film it or not. I have not seen a good video about that. Thank you very much for checking out my video. I really appreciate it

That's exactly what I"m going for, I'm trying to inspire people to save the ones that are in rough shape, that the collectors throw away or part!
Looks great, this what I tried to do when restoring a play field😊
Fantastic paint work! Looks awesome! Can't wait to finish the series!!
Top work love your restoration videos and arcade games overview, love your enthusiasm and knowledge of video games, keep at it mate.
Thanks Darren, glad you enjoy them... see you on the next video!

Yeah we try to do the best we can! They were all originally silk screened, I don't believe any that I'm aware of were hand painted.

E that one is called Derby Day, it's a Gottlieb from 1956.
Is that a Gottlieb "Derby Day" pinball in the background?
it is, Ken, good eye!

No, don't stop there! Fix every pinball in the universe! lol
I'm trying really hard, lol
did you remove the half moon Mylars from in front of the slings before clearing? looks good enough for a lost world.
Nope, just spot cleared around it. Everytime we try to remove that stuff it just makes more work for us so we leave them be.

Yeah... and I think part of it is, the high end restoration guys would have just thrown this one in the trash. So I'm working with scraps heah :)

That's true, but it's a good way to do it as a hobby! Thanks for watching!

I did check it out, very good job man! Is that the only machine you have to paint? I like seeing other people attempting it..
