Hi. This month I made a mini size Luggage bag by Veg tanned in soft and hard. Daily use and fashionable is its priority purpose. It's a bit hard and complicate to do. I handle part I try to simplified the pattern and method to do so. Hope you like it.
In size of W 25.5 cm. | 10"
D 10 cm. | 4"
H 20.7 cm. | 8" 1/8" Without handle
In this project we use natural Italian veg tanned and Alran Veg Tanned Goat skin.
AmyRoke pricking Iron 3.38 from atelieramyroke.com
and typical 4mm. diamond type pricking iron.
BondTech Glue, a local glue brand in Thailand
YueFung Thread in 0.55 from YueFung Hong Kong
Awl blade from Blanchard with custom made handle

Thank you for sharing your skills! I have always loved handbag design, and have made some simple patterns and bags myself. It’s so great to share knowledge. I hate how so many designers and crafts-people give the illusions that unless it is made in a certain country, or continent such as Europe, the quality is substandard. Having made bags myself, I know how difficult and time consuming this can be. And the smaller the details the harder it is.
Can you tell me about how long does it take you to make a bag from start to finish?
I used to make a rectangle size bag using upholstery material, cloth handles and satin lining and it would take me about 8 hours from start to finish. I have never worked with leather myself.

For making this bag duration is hard to tell cause I also do video shooting/lighting and also other works too.

what can of stiffners do you use? can you make some video on it? Oh and about paddings too, because since I am getting started in leathercraft I still haven't found any video about and I would be forever appreciated. Love your videos and channel! Love from Portugal
Hi banana eater, for the stiffener there are quite flexible to use depends on how you would like to make the bags forms.
From super hard like wood or mdf for trunk bags, card board paper for hard bottom of some bags, sturdy hard by use splited veg tanned, hard and bendable like TEXON, soft n thin like fleece or sometime can use eva foam or rubber to feels like cushion.
So there are many.
In my opinion I always did try on the sample before using on a real project, a pairing test is must.
Hope I can give you some short ideas.

Hi. For tools and materials you can seek it via rmleathersupply.com / leathercrafttools.com / wuta shop in ebay.
I'm not sure if you have work about leathercrafts before but if this one gonna be your 1st project, its super hard and take times. And if you have other crafts experience you might have your ways n times to practice it.

How thick is the leather that you are using?
What kind of leather are you using? I mean the name of this leather.
For the grey one its Alran Chevre in 1.4 mm
The natural one is normal veg tan without tannery stamp from Italy in 1.9-2.0 mm.

Hi, for this one its kind of soft n thin EVA local made here. But you also can use split leather or SALPA as flexible stiffener too.

could you also use some thin leather for the interror? and what leather would you recommend for that?
Some thin and stiff leather like 1.0-1.2 mm can also use as lining like goat skin.

Thanks for the answer, I love your videos, however I would like to ask an additional thing, which is something that goes inside the bag, looks like cardboard, is brown, that helps the bag to get hard, it is a material interesting for me, since it can be folded and rolled up.

The pricking iron I use is from "Atelier Amy Roke"
For glue it's Grafted Polychloroprene Adhesive local brand here in THAILAND name "Bond-Tech No. BT-430"

what did you use as the stiffener?
For this project, I use kind of eva foam with thin and stiff, just unfortunately I know only what they sell in my local language.
But you can also use the splitted leather as stiffener too.
