Like many others here, I too purchased some B&W 705's from Best Buy, open box. Mine arrived in excellent condition. After a week of tweaking, I'm VERY VERY happy with the sound. Although, like any speakers, it's taken a while to dial in. In my room, setting my crossover (I'm using a SVS SB13 Ultra) to 57hz, and installing the "ring" style plugs really helped smoothing the mid-bass/bass transition. A little toe-in is good too.
Thanks for the unboxing. I’ve purchased open-box from Best Buy too and have usually had a good experience when they are rated excellent. I bought a pair of the same B&W in the rosewood. Beautiful speaker and well built. Also had the matching stands. I ended up going with a pair of Revel PerformaBe M126Be instead for less money from a different dealer. The B&Ws were too sibilant to me. The beryllium tweeters on the Revels sound excellent to me and the midrange and upper bass was better too. I also tried the B&W 702 S2 and the tweeter sounds about the same as the 705s but with better bass. Enjoy your musical journey!
@ Someone needs to figure out how to make a DIY knockoff of these. Getting sick of speaker prices being through the roof. Drivers, crossover, sound deadening material and mdf just don’t cost that much.
@@bpalpha Become a hifi dealer. They pay about 50% of retail for things. Before anyone yells about being ripped off those same dealers have to pay for shipping to their store, stocking and stock space, the overheads of running a store, sales team, marketing and handle returns and restocking and repairs. It ain't easy money.
I usually run them for over a week for each review, also these were the demo pair at the best buy I bought them from for at least a year so I'm sure they are broken in.
The prices are bizarre, I bought my 805s for 2500 EUR back in 2005 and thought that was extremely expensive already. p.s. didn't keep them for long, ok highs, good bass, but very V curved (and from what I hear that's still the case for most B&W's)
@@AV-Obsessed Dynaudio Focus I think. Loved those for most part, but didn't keep those either as I didn't like how they played at lower volumes. Best speakers I had were both coaxial speakers: a full set of Pioneer peakers (derived from TAD) and funnily enough the Kef eggs
I have 702 S2's. The mid and treble are great in-room. Too forward without a sub (SVS SB-1000 pro) to give the bottom end some weight. Sub might not be needed in smaller rooms
Owned a pair last year. Offloaded them for a pair of Mission 770's. B&W's were way too bright & no much midrange. Also the made in China was a bit of a turn off.
There are a lot near me and the people who work at Geek Squad that are supposed to check in open box item don't know anything about speakers so I don't think they check them at all, I wish they would make someone who works in Home Theater/Magnolia check them out before setting the as open box.
From what I heard, they kinda sound a little bright. TH-cam compression not doing any favors either. I would love to listen to them in person @Av-obsessed
Great sharing.
It is a great experience when you get toe-in correct and the imaging presents a 3-D stage that amazes the senses.

Great channel mate really appreciate the effort and detail in your vids. Cheers.
They look like very well made speakers. I hope you like them.
705s3 Vs. 805 D4?
The stereophile measurements scared me off of these. The treble response rises 10db from 2khz to 10khz.
That seems like a big rise in treble, I haven't measured them yet but it doesn't seem that high to me.
How much did you get these for? Very nice loudspeakers.
$2500 which for the condition they are in seems a bit high but I am ging to return them once I'm done with the review.

@@bpalpha you're paying for knowledge and R& D.

That's interesting what did you end up with after the 805s ?

That top-end is way too much for me. Lots of sibilance.
Your local BB is questionable. Lol

They are definitely a bit bright but not to the point of fatiguing at least on my amp.
What kinda speaker cables are those ? 🤔@@AV-Obsessed
