Excellent and honest review! I got the first one on Black Friday sale, but ended up giving it to my brother. Was going to buy again, but Best Buy sold out. The new one is currently back at $649. Once I see it get to $499 or less - I will pull the trigger. May get anxious at $549
Just bought one on Best Buy , its current $449 brand new. I think it might get to $399 in the next few months but the current prices seems like a okay deal so I pulled the trigger.
Got the old one refurbished for only $298 plus tax (about $311)! I absolutely like mine, especially for the price I got it. It looked new when I got it and it works great!! Can't beat the price for what you're getting. : )
Thanks for this video! Last week I purchased the non-Chromebook Plus badged version open-box at Best Buy for $290. I love it! However, I was going to exchange it for the new one at $650 because I thought it would be even better. After viewing this, I now know there's no need to do so.
Old one’s hidden gem is the cpu. And both can upgrade storage and run Linux (either with your own distro or via crostini). This together with the fact that both being the same thing makes the old one a real deal (because laptops with P series chips won’t cost that little in the used market)
I'll be interested to see if Acer release this in Australia...we don't have all that many choices for Chromebook Plus models and Best Buy don't ship here.
I had the choice to buy both but decided to go ahead and buy the newer model since it would be supported just a little longer and the stronger CPU may prove to be valuable down the road. I bought it a little over 2 weeks ago. No complaints.
Slightly off topic: An HP chat person just told me that the HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook is DISCONTINUED - however an AD on Google says that it is IN STOCK and can be delivered Aug 6-12 at $US999.99 plus tax. In the premium Chromebook Plus segment, what comes closest to the Dragonfly Pro Chromebook? How does the Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE compare?
There's a software bug for the backlight keyboard when choosing rainbow, it doesn't create the 4 zones in the right colors. If you go to like "Green" first, then back to "rainbow", it does set it correctly. But try going to blue then back to rainbow and you'll see what I mean. The colors also seem saturated when using multi zones, compared to them individually. I returned 1 hoping it was isolated but it doesn't seem to be.
actually i feel from now Chromebook on the hardware side is pretty stable then just expect Google would push the OS side so it will more PC/laptop feel than mix between phone and tablet feel
hello just curious . can I use a rode podcaster duo with a Chromebook. I'd like to get a Chromebook instead of upgrading my MacBook thanks in advance been watching for years great channnel
Hi everyone, price being the same would you choose the one with the i5 1240P processor with 16GB RAM or the newer core 5 120U processor with 8GB RAM? Thank you.
Thank you for reviewing the new one. I'm sorry that I didn't wait till they dropped down, but because of my budget at that time, I chose to buy a manufacturer refurbished one from Target. And I got a great Chromebook at a reasonable price. I've had no issues with it at all. I think it was because it was from an Acer Store. If I do have an issue I would then buy the new one but this is fine. I got it for the internals and for what I do with it, it hardly goes full throttle. I bought one of those Targus chill mats for the CX536 and I now use it for this one. It does tend to get a little hot but not as hot as the CX536 did. That was Asus and this is Acer so I don't know if that was why. Thank you again for the review it was very helpful.
This is strange. I've had the normal 516 GE for a couple of months. It doesn't say "Plus" after "Chromebook" on the back of the top panel. But when it boots up, it says "Chromebook Plus". I love it, BTW.
Does anyone know why this only gets 120 fps when plugged in. I run UFOtest and plugged in I get 120 fps and on battery I only get 60 fps. I google it and only found 2 other people who mention this on reddit. Is it a bug? Is this the only way this works to save battery life? Seems like they should give you an option, why by a laptop that can only do 120 when plugged in, kind of pointless.
After some research I found an answer. You have to go into chrome flags and enable a setting called Device Performance. Once you do that when you go to Display settings there will be a toggle called Shiny Performance. If you turn that on it will force the laptop to be in 120 fps when on battery power. Kind of a silly setting as I assume people buy this to have 120 hz/fps on all the time.

Nah upgrade every 2 to 3 years there isn't much of any real upgrades

The update should be getting better battery life with the new chip.

My favorite Chromebook to date. Love mine
I run my law practice on the older GE Chromebook and it works great. I’m going to get the gassed up expertbook down the road
Been waiting for this one!
I'll be interested to see if Acer release this in Australia...we don't have all that many choices for Chromebook Plus models and Best Buy don't ship here.
Thank you for your honest opinion

i5 1240p is weaker than core 5 120u??? I thought it was the opposite?
IDK if there's much difference in sound, though the newest model sounds less like the sound is coming from a plastic cup.
Here in Italy it's a mess to find Chromebooks available or to just step on the last machines released. Hope it will get better...
i just got the old one and its awsome, steam works fine on this machine and the ssd can be upgraded to fit all games you want.

the new one does have 16gb option, which is the biggest feature

@@Rreaver right, something that run natively not side loading apk and some well known apps from playstore just not chromebook ready like some M$ apps
The new Chromebook does sound crisp.

snapdragon x elite is kinda buggy on windows. I wonder if the processor works well on chromeOS.
Should be work better on ChromeOS
Hi bro, how is the battery life on this? Which chromebook you recommend for best battery life
Please add benchmark numbers
Tried watching this video from the website, but an ad with no obvious close button covered the screen.
Strange that neither has a numeric keypad. They are big machines, so enough real estate
According to google website new version of that Chromebook will be updated by 2032 as well as older version. I didn't understand why its like that

More ram. This cpu is virtually identical and even worse in some places
Would love to see the price go down in Canada
I bought a Plus GE from Acer Scratch and Dent for $300 two weeks ago.
What’s a good Chromebook with good battery life? My less than a year old Dell Latitude 5420 i5 gets less than 4 hours battery life.
How does it compare to Lenovo’s IdeaPad, IdeaPad Flex series? Those are around $284 - $424
Build quality needs improvement on the fan and keyboard

Hello guys, how's the performance of this Chromebook using Luma Fusion? Anyone knows how is it?

Yes, because the previous generation still got the bump to Chromebook Plus because of the specs and update.
@@romulus7495 Thanks!
It's more strange people can't search for stuff and figure out things on their own.
Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE can i have it for school?
For Free?
