    How to enable manual mode? It works in stills mode, but video is always AUTO. Tried everything, but cant get that M letter next to the camera symbol.

    When I switch the mode from camera to video shooting, the display suddenly becomes very dark, but with the same setting, the display for camera mode is very bright. Is there something wrong with my camera, or do I need to do something with the setting? thanks!

    +1 on Thomas Taylor's comment. Starting with the studio environment which is 'controllable' makes sense ... but I like doing a lot of outdoor videos too and I'd like your inputs. Tried some on the beach where I go kiteboarding and brightness levels are a challenge ... pls consider such in your video. Thx!

      @@WaiYingLam is it possible that dial works in photo mode, but doesn't work in video?

    • @itacatv2146
      @itacatv2146 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dsv I know it’s an old post, but I’m going to reply because someone else might be having the same issue today.
      You might’ve set the silent control for video. I know the dials stop working in such a situation. If the dial is damaged, try assigning a command dial as an is dial, but it might not work,because if I remember correctly you have to put the dial in A. I’m not sure about that, but there is an option to control ISO with one of the command dials.
      First check if you enabled silent control via touch screen, because if it works in photo but not in video, that is the most likely reason.

    why does the xt3 have such harsh exposure changes when in aperture priority mode...i cant even video a sunset to speed it up later in post like i do with my sony A7rii
    without it flashing so badly as the sun set and the light got progressively dimmer....i was using the 16mm f1.4

    • @WaiYingLam
      @WaiYingLam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      are you doing video or timelapse. If you are doing video, yes the exposure stepping can be seen and there is little you can do about it. Timelapses should not have that problem

    • @cloud9photography126
      @cloud9photography126 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if theres nothing i can do about it in video then the fuji gets sold and i go back to Sony lol. Because the sony can handle a video sunset without this needless flickering when set to aperture priority. you dont even see any of it in the sony sunset videos. i only bought the fuji because it had the 10bit 4.2.2 and that eliminates banding. but if this thing cant do what the sony can do and not turn a sunset into a flicker show then its going back lol

    Thanks from Australia mate I'm just exploring the possibilities of video coming from the old commercial school of full manual (film background so highlight, exposure dmax concept of zebra etc are well learnt) but your button /menu explanations are well presented so its now a little clearer for me to how to get started ,great help for photographer beginning to capture moving images !
    Any recommendations out of the Atomos range to capture 4k on the X-T3 without breaking the bank but with the ability to see LUT settings on screen ?
    Cheers

      I dont have experience with Atomos devices but everyone loves the Ninja 5. For this case I recommend renting before buying. External recorders are great but you will surprised how much more effort is needed to use them constantly.

      Mario, it's most likely your sd card is bad or too slow. You can try reducing your data rate to a smaller number or get a new sd card and try it out. I would recommend the sony sd card with 300mb read/write speed.

    You always have great useful info in your videos. Thank you for that. I have a question about this one. What do you mean by "one of the biggest downsides to shooting this way is that you can't control your shutter?" I'm scratching my head here, thinking, "Of course you can control your shutter"

    • @WaiYingLam
      @WaiYingLam  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      when you have your shutter dial on "A" for auto. The camera will decide what shutter speed you use. For example, I like to shoot my videos on 4k 30 frames per second. The most common shutter speed for that is 1/60 of a second. When you have it on auto, a lot of time it will choose 1/30 of a second. Which means thing in motion will show more motion blur.

    • @manukm2512
      @manukm2512 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WaiYingLam I understand that. Yes, the camera will decide because you are telling it to decide for you by setting the shutter dial to A. You are telling it that you don't care what the shutter speed is. I guess my confusion started because you described it as "something annoying I wish Fuji would fix". What's there to fix? You basically want Shutter Priority mode, which you already have. You just set the Shutter to 60 instead of A :) The whole point of Auto is for the camera to take control and in some scenarios it might need to drop the shutter to below 60 for a correct exposure. Basically, if you want control don't give it to the camera and say that it is annoying that it didn't set it to your preference.

    • @WaiYingLam
      @WaiYingLam  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to go into the menu -> set up -> button/dial setting, on page 2, there is AE/AF LOCK MODE and AWB-LOCK MODE. Both of those need to set on "S" for switch. The default is "P" for press.

    • @dariusvick1636
      @dariusvick1636 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wai Lam Thanks. One another note, have you noticed that when in auto ISO and auto shutter for video at 24FPS that the shutter defaults to shutter speed 24th of a second ignoring the 180 degree shutter rule and at 120fps the default shutter is 60th of a second?
