    One of the greatest defenses of all time. Had Cunningham not gotten injured early in '91 that team may have gone to the Super Bowl. Sad that before the '92 season Jerome Brown (RIP) was killed in a car crash. Probably one of the best teams to never win a Championship.

  • @redmustangredmustang

    1991 was it and if Randall didn't go down the first game they would have given the Redskins a run for their money, but at that time the Redskins were just killing it that 91 season. They shut out the Eagles at RFK 23-0 and when the Redskins did play again, the backups were in and the Eagles barely pulled it out with a last second field goal. It was just the offense especially at QB that lagged behind. Jim McMahon was a good backup, but as always he got hurt at the end which stifled the Eagles offense. Dallas who was up and coming beat the Eagles for that wildcard spot and the Falcons got in at 10-6. After that it was downhill for the Eagles. Jerome Brown died in that car accident because he was going too fast down a single lane road and lost control. Jerome made it impossible to run up the middle and once he wasn't there, Emmitt Smith got his first 100 yard game against the Eagles that season. So when the Eagles did pull a wildcard win, they faced the 13-3 Cowboys in the divisional round. The Cowboys were an upcoming team. They had gone 11-5 and a wildcard win the first playoff win since 1982 and the first home game since 1983. So the Eagles were confident and when the game started the Eagles had a 3-0 lead. The the Cowboys got the ball and the game was over. The Cowboys scored on their opening possession and the Eagles just got curbed stomped that game. From there it was even further downhill from there. Reggie White left to the Packers in free agency. Mike Golic went to Miami and slowly the players that solidified that team went away. Andre Waters just wasn't the same after breaking his leg in 1992. The 93 Eagles started fast as they did in 92, but Randall broke his leg against the Jets and had no good backup and the Eagles missed out of the playoffs. In 94, the Eagles again started fast and then the Cowboys beat them and they collapsed again late in the season. The Eagles had a great defense just the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys were better and got their Super Bowl wins.

I grew up watching this legendary defense, but our Eagles that just won the big game had a very similar story- not the violence (can u imagine today's offense paired w/ Buddy Ryan's 'D'?!) but the comraderie among the team...those guys had Rev. Reggie White, we have "Rev" Carson Wentz, they spent every minute together as brothers, so did our SB LII winners... there's a lesson here-

They’re good bordering on great now. Jordan Davis should start channeling the late great Jerome Brown too. I remember them. I could not understand why they did not win the Superbowl. Randall Cunningham was their quarterback. I noticed that Randall got rattled sometimes under pressure. They had the best defense in NFL

    • @johndolejsch5102
      @johndolejsch5102 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'll answer that question for you why they didn't win a Superbowl. they had a terrible offensive line with no running game , terrible coaching while the NFC East had Jimmy Johnson Joe Gibbs and Bill Parcells. and the Eagles had buddy Ryan and Rich kotite. enough said.

    • @Ispeakthetruthify
      @Ispeakthetruthify 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johndolejsch5102 Yeah...they had 3 great teams in their division, that all won Super Bowls. And if they avoided the teams in their division in the playoffs, they had to deal with the 49ers, Rams, or Bears. The NFC was a meat grinder back then....

      Randall tore his knee in first game of the season vs green Bay. I remember watching that game and knew their season was shot. I just knew they weren't gonna go 500 with Jim McMahon as their starter since he was brittle af....this defense carried them to 10 wins with backup QBs....

    This 91 team was the best defense of all time but with no Lombardi attached to it they don't get the notoriety of the likes of the 85 Bears or 2000 Ravens....that year they lost Randall first game of season and Jim McMahon for several games...they still won 10 games with QBs off the scrap yard...mostly because of defense...they were winning 7-6 games....it was Buddy's guys but they all hit their prime after Buddy left the Eagles

    Maaaannn i wish defenses today could play like this defense did. WRs literally were gettin their spines crunched when they came across the middle! To say our D line dominated back then truly is an understatement. They totally crunched the o line, rbs, and QBs to a powder 😂. Sad that because of former players suing the league because of their concussions and other bodily injuries, that the way defenses play today is so soft and watered down. I was a baby in pampers during these days of the buddy ryan led eagles teams when grown men were out there playing FOOTBALL! Gotta appreciate the game for what it truly was back in the day.
